Here we are!

Roll up and sign in!

Oldies welcome, newbies welcome, anyone welcome!

It's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

OP posts:

oh, the Rutter is definitely doable!
Just used to him making his anthems very very high and hard to sing! Grin

In fact, we got a text from one of our basses after it had been performed saying "another Rutter to learn. I liked it" that's praise indeed!

yes, I loved the descants too.
can't go wrong with descants.
our wedding only had one descant, as set in the hymn book, and DH doesn't like writing music, so I couldn't persuade him to make descants for the other hymns. [ya-boo]

Which Bach Chorale? (in case I know where you can find an english version)
we do God Liveth Still sometimes at church.

MaryBS · 30/04/2011 13:43

I sang a new anthem by Rutter a couple of years ago - with the great man himself conducting. It was part of the RSCM festival in Ely Cathedral. I loved it - its called "I am with you always" (referring to God, not Rutter :o )

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 13:53

oooh.
I haven't done an RSCM festival in years!

MaryBS · 30/04/2011 14:11

Its the only one I've ever done, and I was exhausted afterwards, what with the intense rehearsals and me not being used to it...

We (as a church) can't afford to do it this year...

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 14:27

that's a shame.
maybe you could get each choir member to pay for themselves?

MaryBS · 30/04/2011 14:45

Perhaps another year. As I recall, I think its quite expensive though, what they charge for the music.

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 14:54

It's so long since we did one! It was about £4 per copy, I think.

Another year would be sensible, maybe with a pre-warning this year that if you do it again, each singer should pay for their own music.

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 14:54

(£4 a copy about 10 years ago!)

PandaG · 30/04/2011 14:54

hello all! Enjoyed what I saw of the wedding - got on with clearing the cellar once they'd said 'I do'! 2 trips to the tip later I was shattered!

our house went on the market earlier this week, got our first viewing in an hour or so. DH and kids out at the moment, and I'm tidying round - having removed 3 days' worth of underwear from outside DS's bedroom! Kitchen is very tidy - box of extaneous stuff I ususally have on the sides is relocated to the car boot! Praying that the right person will want to buy our house, and that we will know which is the right one for us!

MaryBS · 30/04/2011 14:56

I think its more like £30-40 now!

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 14:56

sounds like you've got your work cut out for you! Shock

Hoep it all goes smoothly and you sell to the right person quickly.

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 14:57

for one copy?? Shock

is that photocopiable, though?
The one for the Young Voices Festival is £25 and it's photocpiable.

I can't believe they can get away with £30-£40 for one book! Shock

MaryBS · 30/04/2011 14:58

1 copy and no, you're not supposed to photocopy it!

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 15:05

that's madness!
You need to move to sussex their festival book
is only £4.25. Grin

DutchOma · 30/04/2011 16:45

That's it Nickel:- God liveth still. If you have a singable copy I would love it.

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 16:46

I'll check in the cupboard. :)
(i'll let you know on Monday)

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 16:46

(obviously depends if it's the same God Liveth Still - I'm sure it probably is, but you never know!)

DutchOma · 30/04/2011 16:51

There are indeed two, both of which I have on CD but not as a singable copy.
The one I am after is BWV 641.

MadHairbaaadonroyalweddingDay · 30/04/2011 16:54

Hope you can sell soon Panda, are you moving far away? What sort of thing are you looking for? I'm moving in a couple of months so it's all on my mind at the moment...stressful but exciting time.

[cgrin]

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 16:54

I don't know if it has the BWV number on it.
I will check, and report back.
It could end up being the other one....

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 16:56

mhd - you must learn who John Rutter is! Shock

madhairday · 30/04/2011 17:05

Ah. OK. Very nice. [cgrin]

madhairday · 30/04/2011 17:06

I do know that Gaelic Blessing one. Reminds me of taking one of my RSCM medals way back when. It is lovely, I will admit :)

PandaG · 30/04/2011 17:07

Just moving up the hill MHD, we want a house with a separate downstairs room that we can have meetings in without the children having to go to bed - often host prayer meetings/housegroup type stuff and now the kids are older is a bit more difficult with an open plan downstairs. We would also like a second loo (ideally a second bathroom) as we'd like to hosting for church events and only one loo in the bathroom makes it difficult in the mornings with someone we don't know!

Our missional community all live up the hill and God has made it pretty clear we should move to be in close walking distance so to be real community with them. - so 3 or pref 4 beds, 2 reception rooms, and a downstairs loo or en suite. God knows what we need, and the budget! Have to trust Him completely on this one. You'll get a house with the job so to speak won't you?

PandaG · 30/04/2011 17:15

lovely! Did recognise 2 of the pieces, but wouldn't have known who they were by. DH asked what I was listening to, then when I said Rutter immediately knew it was John Rutter as he had a Clare connection.
