I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

ok nicel = PM me your email and I'll send you one........presuming PA gets hers ok.....

PositiveAttitude · 19/02/2011 16:09

Brill thanks,

I changed ours loads in the first 6 months of me taking it over, but that was 3 years ago and I feel a but stuck in a rut now. Its easier to just keep with the same format, but I always look out for new things!

Thanks

PositiveAttitude · 19/02/2011 16:10

Got mine fine thanks Baroque and will send mine to you nickel

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 16:14

the problem is, that our newssheet is done by the admin lady, and the magazine was something separate (she just copied it).
it's tricky getting the weekly newsshet made into a proper newsletter thing without the admin lady thinking we're trying to make it hard on her, but we can't cope with doing a weekly thing ourselves.

i was thinking setting out most of it, and having her put the weekly bit in the front, or something.

i'm not sure.
Confused

i need a Brew

PositiveAttitude · 19/02/2011 16:31

We dont have a magazine either at the moment. For the sameish reason as you. The lady who did it gave up a while back and nobody wanted to take it all on. It did take an awful long time to get it all together.

I do a termly "magazine" for another job I do, for YFC - for our suporters. It does take up an awful long time, but I love doing it and it is part of my job. I couldnt take on the church one, too. I'd go crazy!!!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:06

oooooo - we're gonna need a new thread ASAP!!!

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:07

if you start the thread, B, yo ucan name it! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:09

got yours thanks PA. I don't bother doing much colour on ours as it's all photocopied in black and white anyhow Sad

We do have a monthly parish magazine - I have nothing to do with that, it's quite a mammoth job

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:11

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/philosophy_religion_spirituality/1154297-Canticles-charisma-and-chat-Religion-thread-number-2\new thread is here then}

Grin
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:12

but we may as well fill this one up properly first Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:14

I'm taking the boys to a church quiz night later........could regret it there is one other kid going that I know of - but it'll mostly be my age (and much much older). Apparently there's food available too. But will feed them first other wise they'll be like gannets Blush

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:15

why not, eh? Grin

when i started this thread, i thought it would go the same way as every other thread i've started - about 30-odd posts, most of which are "bump"
Grin

i'm glad it's turned out like this - i do find it hard to talk about church IRL, apart from with DH, and he doesn't get half of what i try to do, anyway
Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:16

yes it's a good thread, and a good idea.

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:16

ooh, church quiz night should be fun!

you're not suppoed to feed them first - IME, there's always far too much food and the organisers complain that it's not all been eaten!

thanksamillion · 19/02/2011 17:17

I do our church noticesheet every week too! It's quite basic and only been going since September but it's in Romanian so I'm not going to send it to any of you!

We also write a newsletter for all our supporters/people interested in our work four times a year. I like doing that although I try to make sure it doesn't stray into 'round robin' territory! We sent the latest one last week and it always feels good when it's gone.

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:18

DH is on a KCOA visit today (kent county organists), and they usually get back quite late, so I've got to fend for myself tonight.

normally, he tets me to tell me he's hada play on the organ, but nothing! Shock he's obviously having too much fun to think about me [sob sob sob sob sob]

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:19

I know there's always lots of food - but it doesn't start until 7.30pm and they'll be absolutely ravenous by the time they're allowed to get their hands on any food. (if there's left overs we'll probably get sent home with loads of it - usually do LOL).

I'm just hoping that DS3 behaves........

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:19

i like the idea of a quarterly RoundRobin, thanks .
that might be useful for us (cos a lot of the magazine subscrptions were taken by people who don't come to church)

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:20

okay, that's fair enough, feed them, then! Grin

i normally arrive at those things hungry, so i make them feed me!

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:24

most of the listings for it are with the other tune (ar hyd y nos)

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:25

(and it's rather fast)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 17:28

yes I always end up eating loads too - and I know my boys will too - but knowing the person that's running it the food will be "out" and in view, but they'll have to wait to eat and it'll be a constant "I'm hungry, when can we eat".....and then piling their plates so high it looks like they haven't been fed for a year Grin

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:30

that's just evil, you know! people like that shouldn't be allowed in church! Shock

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:30

oooh! last post!

see you on the new thread everyone!

new thread here

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 17:30
