I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

I meant a print out of the prayer not the actions

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 09:29

hehe - I knew what you meant - we did the same with the English version (a print out to take home and decorate Grin).

I guess you can always play around with the actions/miss some out/adapt if you wanted to use it.

madhairday · 18/02/2011 09:46

Hello Dilly and welcome. Would love to hear more of your story, sounds v interesting. So glad you're finding peace in taking these steps - so exciting :)

Really shouldn't be on here - have godsons christening tomorrow and need to finish cross stitch

Morning all :)

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 10:11

lyra - the surplice is because i'm in the Choir - we wash and iron them twice a year - for easter and for christmas!

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 10:20

welcome to Dilly - i hope you like us! Grin

Hope you get a chanceto read through some of the less argumentative bits of the thread too! we throw ideas around a lot, so it's great if you're stuck for inspiration or just need a hand holding.

I love how you mixed the old and new words Baroque ! Grin i think it's ingrained, isn't it!
I love your actions, though - i might pass that onto St Mary's.

Something we did at school was a song Our Father - it was brillilant.
It's in the Hideous book, with the rhythms messed about with (of course!).
It's the one that goes
Our father who art in heaven
hallow-ed be thy name
thy kingdom come thy will be done
hallow-ed be thy name
on earth as it is in heaven
hallow-ed be thy name
give us this day our daily bread
hallow-ed be thy name
and forgive us our trespasses
hallow-ed be thy name
as we forgive those who trespass against us
hallow-ed be thy name
and lead us not into temptation
hallow-ed be thy name
but deliver us from evil
hallow-ed be thy name
for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory
hallow-ed be thy name
for ever and ever and ever and ever
hallow-ed be thy name
amen amen amen amen
hallow-ed be thy name
amen amen amen amen
hallow-ed be thy name.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 10:38

we don't really argue that much, more debate Grin. But yes lots of inspiration and hand holding too, and general chit chat.

BetsyBoop · 18/02/2011 10:58

morning all & welcome Dilly :)

Been up most of the night with a poorly DS (he's got the throat infection that is doing the rounds here & has a raging temp) thank goodness DD has an inset day today, so I didn't have to take her to school...

Has anyone done or does anyone know of a good church facebook page? I've been asked to look at setting one up for our church serves me right for suggesting it! I thought it might be a way to try & keep a link with our kids once they go to secondary school as lots drift away (as many teenagers almost inevitably do), hopefully making it easier to come back if/when they want to as they still feel part of things.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 11:04

Betsy - it's not strictly a "church" facebook page - well it is I suppose \link{http://www.facebook.com/pages/Saint-and-Drews/210716188641\this} is a local} (next town) weekly (I think?) Saturday service that's popular with/for kids.

They seem to update on a reasonably regular basis and maybe something like they do????

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 11:08

and then there's \link{http://www.facebook.com/pages/St-Michaels-Church-Choir-Sittingbourne/123344424404102\this one which is a choir one}

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 11:08

our galaxy youth group is supposed to be setting up a church facebook group.
when i say "is supposed to be" i don't know if they know about it yet!
it was sugggested at the PCC that we should have one, and that Galaxy would be the best people to do it Grin

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 11:09

B Shock
that's mine!
it's shockingly bare!
Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 11:10

oh is it Wink fancy that Grin

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 11:18

now i feel pressured to do something on it....

I'm writing something about evensong. :)

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 14:02

my God! how hard can it be to get rid of noise, delete the scenes of nothingness and add transistions?
I've never known something so complicated and fraught with disaster!

i did work out that i was applying a fade transition to every section, though, which didn't help. but all my scenes kept going the wrong length!
I think i've sorted it now, and am producing.

what's the best output? I've chosen something that has a file name of m2ts. it's supposed to be Mpeg2 format but easier to compress onto a DVD.
is that the right format?
it was shot in mpeg2, and it says 60 mins will fit onto a DVD, but it's longer than that.

my old programme used to havea compressio nthing when you burned it onto the DVD. Confused

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 14:07

I have been ironing

Just having a break before I finish off what there is to iron (loads more in the rest of the cycle. And the boys have been tidying/sorting while I was ironing too Grin

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 14:10

my favourite job when i was a kid was to sort the clothes out.
it was one of the rare occasions we could spend time in our parents' room! Grin

all stuff starting in a big pile, then sorted out into 6 proper piles (airing cupboard and 5 family members)
putting it away, i hate, but sorting it out! loved it! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 14:12

noise reduction I haven't really worked with yet.

Deleting scenes is easy, you need to "cut" it. Transitions - ahh I see you've sorted that Blush

You can produce straight onto a DVD. using "create disc"

I usually produce into MPEg-4 or WMV for later uploading to facebook/youtube (I've found the "onbaord" uploader to be painfully slow - although admittedly only tried it the once

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 14:13

ahh - I sorted the clothes as I'm ironing - one entire sofa gets taken over with

Mine
DS1
DS2
DS3
Bedding/towels
Kitchen stuff (tea towels, dishclothes, dusters etc)

Socks go into a separate basket supposedly when they're dried, but I usually find some in the ironing pile too. And that's another job to pair them up and put away Grin

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 14:27

I can't produce straight to a disc yet because i have discovered my disc drive is read only (but i can write audio CDs) :(
I was hoping to save all to the computer and then get the DVD RW drive later.

I was worried about doing mpeg4, because i thought not every player saw it?
i think i'm just stuck with a shit computer....
(not now, though, cos i've tricked it up Grin )

the problem i was havign with cutting, was that i was able to fade the picture, but not the sound - so i did edit audio, which separates the audio from the sound, which meant i couldn't cut it together, and then they were different lengths. but they move on the timeline together, which meant that i either had to overlap or have huge sound gaps.
in the end, i had to delete the sections form the timeline and start again using my new found knowledge. Hmm

i think it's okay, i'll find out once it's produced.

everything seems easy enough, once you've worked out where to find things - ctrl+z works, and other bits are like MS word/excel, so that's good.

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 14:28

you don't iron bedding and towels, do you? Shock

please say no!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 14:34

I iron my bedding yes - not the DS's.

I don't like making my bed (bearing in mind I don't sleep in it very often Grin) and going to sleep in it and you can see the creases.

And yes I iron towels as I can't bear putting them in the cupboard with creases on (and it softens them up)

You should have been able to "extract audio" from the video so you could play around with the pictures without affecting the visuals.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 14:34

Right am off to finish my (current) ironing pile, while DS1 goes on iamlearning and DS2 sorts socks......

DS3 will no doubt run around being a pita normal 3yr old Grin

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 14:38

you're mad, woman! i'm forgiving you on account of your insomnia. Grin

one of my greatest joys is wrapping in a stiff towel - i know that it's properly clean because it's still stiff and noone can have touched it!

I was able to extract the audio.
but i didn't want to, because this one isn't a visual with a sound track, it's a recording of a concert, so i want it all together.
problem is, most of my videos will be like that....
it seemed to work alrigth the second attempt- i just didn't fiddle as much as before.
:)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 16:05

I slept last night Shock from about 10ish (I think it was??) - mind I did wake up several times thourgh the night......and a long nights sleep usually only happens once in a while Hmm (I think it happens once I hit complete exhaustion and my body has no option but to sleep)

I like my towels soft and fluffy Grin

The ironing is DONE. Well the basket is filling up again with stuff that's going through the washing/drying cycle today - but I'll do that tomorrow and it's nothing like as much as I've just done.

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 16:18
Grin

I wake up loads during the night, always have done, but i always drop back off okay, so i don't see it as a problem.
I do understand that's nothing to do with your insomnia, i just thought i'd share. :)
