I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 16:21

well not quite finished washing - just the ironing LOL. But it's a start - and I've done loads of washing today.

I wouldn't mind waking up lots if it didn't take me so long to go back to sleep Hmm.

Ahh well. At least I'm charged up again for a few days

nickelbabe · 18/02/2011 16:39

you'll be raight.

I'm 2 hours 45 through this producing and have 6hours 30 mins left.
which means i'll have to leave the computer on tonight :(
(must remember to turn the broadband off!)

I've decided, with the Guides, to have them playing percussion during their Seek Ye First. thought it might perk up their interest. thought like shakers and maracas. (they might even be able to make a shaker...)
I also have to do them a recording of When Miriam's Daughters Rise and Sing, because it's a new one and not on YouTube.

My dc are 18 ds, 15 dd, and 5 ds. We had a bit of a bonus ball there, or a late blessing, depending on how you look at it. Just answering someone's question from yesterday. Sorry, can't remember whose.

it's a bit parky in Manchester today, but has been sunny so that's good. I might chance a fire tonight, cosy I always think and we've got a lovefilm to watch, the Social Network. ANyone seen it?

lyra41 · 18/02/2011 17:43

how about your dc? how old and how many are they?

thanksamillion · 18/02/2011 20:34

It was me who asked lyra. I was being nosey wondering how you got so much done!

I've got 3 Dcs, DD1 6 next month, DS just turned 4 and DD2 just turned 1. I also have a kind of open house policy so often have an extra 2 or 3 here playing, using the internet, playing the piano etc. It's fun Grin

lyra41 · 18/02/2011 20:51

my teens are great, really handy for ad hoc babysitting, if I have to pop out etc.

also good company on the whole.

ds, the eldest has wandered from the path of God recently, so that's a bit of a worry, but nothing I can do but pray I guess, which I'm doing lotsa.

PositiveAttitude · 18/02/2011 23:35

I have 5 teenagers Lyra, (4 girls, 1 boy) they certainly need a lot of prayer! 3 of them are Christians, I pray for DD1 and DD3 a lot!! When DD3 was little she had a "prayer tent" at the end of her bed and would spend a lot of time in it - I think of that when I need reassurance that she will come back. I just feel that I wont give up on them, because I know God wont either.

Would prefer 10 toddlers to 5 teenagers at times though!! Hormone city in out house at times!! ...... errrr me included, I admit!! Blush

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 18/02/2011 23:36

I have 3 DS's, 10, 7 and 3.

amazonianwoman · 19/02/2011 00:33

May I join too?!

A bit like Dilly, was an atheist, started a course similar to the RCIA simply to better understand/support DDs learning at school - she and DS (and DH) are baptised Catholics.

11 months down the line and I'm being welcomed into the church and taking my first holy communion in 2 weeks! Am feeling quite giddy!

Hello to all Smile

PositiveAttitude · 19/02/2011 07:10

Hi Amazonianwoman, and welcome! - although I just pop in sporadically and its all a bit random on here! - nice bunch though!! Smile

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 10:29

lyra - teenagers do wander off a bit, it's all part of assessing what's important in life.
If you just encourage them to keep going to church (maybe have him join the youth club? ) then he will most likely keep going, even just social for now.
:)

welcome to the thread amazonianwoman Grin
it's quite an exciting time for you!

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 10:29

I don't have any DCs, but we are ttc, so

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 10:31

last night, i discovered that I am the only one (apart from DH, apparently) that doesn't kno the hymn For the Fruits of His Creation.! ShockShock

how do they not know it? almost everyone in the choir has been there at least 20 years, and it's a bog standard harvest hymn!

The only hymn I will allow the Hideous book to change the gender-specific words - the proper words are, of course
For the ploughing, sowing, reaping
silent growth while men are sleeping

they've changed it to "while we are sleeping" which is much less rude. Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 10:45

PMSL @ "silent growth while men are sleeping" hahahahha

Welcome to the thread Amazonianwoman

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 10:46

we used to do the old words at my old church - was very funny trying to keep a straight face. Grin

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 12:56

it's dead in the shop today! Shock

i'm watching the video of Les Petits Chanteurs i've completed.
It's a bit manky, because somehow, when the files got transferred onto my computer, it got mucked up - any motion is blurred horizontally.
I had hoped it was just the programme i was using to watch it, but no, it's the file has been corrupted.
very annoying Angry
but the sound is perfect! Confused

anyway, my video editing looks good! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 12:57

oh that's rubbish that the file that you put on your computer was corrupted. Still at least your editing is good Grin

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 13:06

i don't know what happened to it - i think it was something to do with my computer not having the correct programme to read it, and saving it in the best format it could find. Confused

having said how quiet it is in here, i went upstairs to the toilet and to get my lunch food, and came down to a shop full! i'm sure they all waited.

nickelbabe · 19/02/2011 13:08

it is a shame, because i want to send a dvd copy to the choir, and i hope they don't go "ooh, that's a bit crap"

lyra41 · 19/02/2011 13:16

morning nickel, amazon, positive and Baroque.
Just me and ds2 at home atm. DD has gone out for an exciting afternoon's shopping and dating (!), ds1 is still in Chester where he lives and works, and dh has gone out to play hockey.

i am trying a new recipe a sort of cheese and potato strudel, looks interesting, I hope it's tasty. i can't see ds2 eating it though, so I've put sausages on too.

we've been out to swimming lessons this morn (ds1) and read the Guardian (part of Saturday bliss) and not much planned for the rest of the day, apart from chores and maybe a friend over for ds to play with.

ds1 is home later, which will be good to see him after about 2 weeks without seeing him.

just off to check the strudel.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 13:18

that's called sods law that is Grin

I'm about to get the newsletter done, and go and buy some cat litter, I had a MASSIVE shop delivered this morning........and I ordered everything except cat litter Hmm

lyra41 · 19/02/2011 13:40

so is the cat litter eh Baroque. Now just make sure you don't do what I do, and go into the supermarket for cat litter and come out £20 the lighter, having seen this that and the other that you don't actually need, but would come in handy. That usually happens in M&S, I wish they did on line food deliveries, it would stop me going in.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 19/02/2011 13:44

nah - I have cash in my wallet that must last until I next go to the bank (Moday or Tuesday) - and will just pop down the corner shop -they do a small bag of litter at a decent price

lyra41 · 19/02/2011 13:57

very sensible. where are you Baroque? oop North or doon South?

we're in Manchester, having a dull cloudy day that started off wet. I'm going out tonight with dd though, to see 'Of Mice and Men' with dd, so I'm looking forward to that.

lyra41 · 19/02/2011 13:57
