Puppy got sworn at and kicked by a jogger today...

she is only little and looks like a teddy bear - Bichon and toy poodle cross - can't even reach your knees if she jumps up.

Walking in woods with a friends and her lab x puppy and 5 children under 5 with us (2 in a buggy and 3 running around). Going a long a path and a jogger is running up - he shakes his head as he passes us as the pups have shown some interest in him - they come back to us but go back up to him when he is further away - he then stops and screams at mine to F Off but she sniffs a bit more so he boots her in the stomach. I couldn't believe it - most people at least give me the chance to say I'm sorry and am training her etc.

He was too far away to say antyhing although some other walkers shouted at him but then off he ran.

Please tell me that I will be more traumatised than the dog? Was in a wood with loads of dog walkers so can't believe it doesn't happen to him all the time.

Had just taken her off the trainng line but quickly put it back on - now need to re-gain my faith in mankind.

I am angry (serious undertatement there) at what has been done to your puppy, BUT every time I saw my MIL walking her maltese dog in jogging/cycling/skating areas I wanted to kill her, I just thought how many people could trip on the dog and potentially kill it (they are fragile being so small), or get someone hurt while trying to avoid the dog.

If they can run "too far away" they need to be kept restrained. I love dogs but not all people do, and although what this guy has done is completely unacceptable, the puppy should have not been allowed to run after runners, even if it is for its own safety.

EggyAllenPoe · 23/02/2010 09:43

heckythump maybe you should go and post on a camping thread to tell all caravan owners how offensive and inconsiderate you find their hobby, point out how many people die in caravan related-accidents every year, and hysterically declare that they are putting their children at risk!

Bella32 · 23/02/2010 11:01

How's the puppy today?

heckythump · 23/02/2010 11:45

I find the tents worse to be honest, Eggy. I can't count the number of times I've tripped over the blasted ropes at festivals, blind drunk... had I have even had a child at that time it would have been lethal, I'm sure! I'm going to write to my MP.

EggyAllenPoe · 23/02/2010 13:21

ah yes guy ropes are lethal and indeed blardy inconsiderate. they aren't even necessary - i mean who has the right to endanger me and my kids by such an obious tripping hazard just to prevent their tent getting a bit damp when the fly touches the nner - and making more a flap in the breeze.
My dad had a nearly fatal injury once when tripping over one in the dark - how could he have known there would be one next to a tent?
And they so spoil the look of otherwise unspoilt countryside! camping should indeed be banned. I should start a petition.

VinegarTits · 23/02/2010 13:23

MNHQ can we have a new acronym? PFP (precious first puppy)

MrsL123 · 23/02/2010 13:25

I WOULD FUCKIN KNOCK THE TENT DOWN IF I TRIPPED OVER THE ROPE! STUPID FUCKERS AND THEIR STUPID FUCKIN TENTS! FUCK!

OrmRenewed · 23/02/2010 13:27

Acherly mrsl - that is more or less how I reacted when I fell over one on a cold dewy 4am with a full bladder But I said it inside my head. Of course.

OrmRenewed · 23/02/2010 13:29

Well I have a fishpond in my garden next to a wood. Some bloke came to cut down a tree, uttered an oath and fell into the pond That's right! My guppy got sworn at and kicked by a logger

VinegarTits · 23/02/2010 13:33

pmsl

Bella32 · 23/02/2010 13:44

MrsL!!!!!

We do not use such language on Pets.

Poo, wee, shit, humping, jizz and anal glands all acceptable terms.

Not FUCK!

Okay, sweetie?

EggyAllenPoe · 23/02/2010 13:46

actually i believe my dad said outloud, in English (it was a French campsite) and in the dead silence of the night air of the Dordogne -

"fuck a duck!"

as he nearly brained his poor bald head.
we had some strange looks the next morning i can tell you.

notimefortv · 23/02/2010 13:48

Puppy been to vets. She has a tender (or sore, forgot words now) back - stomach ok. Gave her an anti-inflamatory (sp?) injection.

She is still not herself - sticking near her bed in kitchen rather than coming out into house with us. We will chill for couple days and see how she goes.

Ps I love camping and have a huge 8 man tent

Oh poor thing notimefortv. A couple of quiet days with lots of cuddles sounds spot on.

Just to add to the continuing random aside I love camping AND dogs, but have luminous guys to prevent night time fallings over

oh and LOL @ Orm

OrmRenewed · 23/02/2010 13:59

Aey thenk yew!

notimefortv · 23/02/2010 14:05

Imagine when I go camping with the dog and bikes and kids, and I jog - we are gonna get sworn at and kicked by everyone who passes by....

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 23/02/2010 14:12

You need to get yourself a good 'don't you even THINK about it' look notimefortv

That and some flashy kung fu preparatory moves. You know flashing knife hands and a bit of limber-like squatting.

The look combined with the hands will provide a force field of protection for you and your family. I use mine all the time.

You could clicker train your dog to do them too

notimefortv · 23/02/2010 14:21

Will look up my nearest Kung Fu pup school now - litre dolly will kick ass

OP posts:
EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 23/02/2010 14:28

oooh careful now, I'm not advocating the use of force oh no

You are wanting to repel future arse holes with your scare display, like a peacock, or maybe not like a peacock because they are after the other thing

no no

Usually the look is just enough without the hands

Think this but projected through the calculating cat like exterior of this.

v effective

Woofa · 23/02/2010 14:47

Woofa suggests this

HTH

MrsL123 · 23/02/2010 15:07

Lol at "fuck a duck"

I keep trying to convince MrL to go camping but he's having none of it. He was spoiled as a child with holidays to exotic places like Tenerife and the Costa Blanca. I just got wet weekends in Wales with corned beef hash and beans, and I was quite happy with that, thank you very much! Probably explains why he's such a nancy boy and runs away if he sees a wasp What did I marry?

EggyAllenPoe · 23/02/2010 16:00

it was a pup-tent too!

none of them are safe

heckythump · 23/02/2010 22:38

Good grief Notimefortv.... have you some kind of deathwish?

Bella32 · 24/02/2010 07:43

See - that's why I categorically do not jog

Notime - hope pup's feeling better today. I'd probably seek Minimu's advice (on a separate thread) but you'll need to get her out and about and meeting nice people so this doesn't permanently affect her.

Poor little mite.

notimefortv · 24/02/2010 16:49

Thanks for everything bella. She seemed to perk up a lot last night so think the injection kicked in. I will be more affected than her I think! Just never quite thought something like that would happen.
