Puppy got sworn at and kicked by a jogger today...

she is only little and looks like a teddy bear - Bichon and toy poodle cross - can't even reach your knees if she jumps up.

Walking in woods with a friends and her lab x puppy and 5 children under 5 with us (2 in a buggy and 3 running around). Going a long a path and a jogger is running up - he shakes his head as he passes us as the pups have shown some interest in him - they come back to us but go back up to him when he is further away - he then stops and screams at mine to F Off but she sniffs a bit more so he boots her in the stomach. I couldn't believe it - most people at least give me the chance to say I'm sorry and am training her etc.

He was too far away to say antyhing although some other walkers shouted at him but then off he ran.

Please tell me that I will be more traumatised than the dog? Was in a wood with loads of dog walkers so can't believe it doesn't happen to him all the time.

Had just taken her off the trainng line but quickly put it back on - now need to re-gain my faith in mankind.

I've met some aggreived midges when running though saggar. Well I assume they are aggreived as they make a nuisance of themselves. And I'm sure they are pissed off when I've inhaled them and spat them out

pagwatch · 22/02/2010 18:32

Edwardian
I am not sure it passes the superarket test but you would have enjoyed the pooh training ..

Shit PenisDog - shit !

allaboutme · 22/02/2010 18:34

I like dogs, but can understand someone lashing out at a dog chasing at their feet if they were scared of them.
Dog should have been on a lead if still training. Man shouldnt have kicked dog, BUT seeing as dog should have been on a lead its 50/50 fault wise.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/02/2010 18:38

Yes, it's a shame midges aren't a bit more carb-lasen Orm. Then they'd be useful at least. Do they have a purpose do you think? I always seem to get them in my eye and then when I can't see properly I fall over them pesky puppies.

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 18:41

Shit! as a verbal command is a very poor choice. Much too close sounding to Sit! to be effective .

Oh no I think "Be busy! Penisdog Be busy! much more appropriate.

why exactly for the purposes of this thread did you call your dog penisdog anyway
[intrigued]
it's not really called that in rl is it?

EggyAllenPoe · 22/02/2010 18:44

and i think few additional MNers have slipped in my estimation from 'reasonable and worth listening to' to 'probably on the edge, don't tip them over it...'

MrsL123 · 22/02/2010 18:47

Yes but why post on this thread in particular? The OP didn't ask whether she was right or wrong for letting the dog run up to him (in fact had already said herself that she was in the wrong), she was obviously just shocked by what happened, needed a bit of sympathy and wanted to know if the dog would be traumatised by it. Fair enough in my opinion. And yet people seem to have jumped on this as a dog-bashing thread and are all too happy to say they'd have kicked the poor little thing too. In the pets area. Which is full of animal lovers. Most of whom wouldn't take kindly to someone saying they would kick any animal, let alone in such a boastful manner. Makes you wonder what there is to gain by that really. Hmm, one one of life's great mysteries....

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 18:54

Penisdog is a crap name.

Too many syllables

I do think - seriously - that many people have been traumatised by dogs in one way or another and jumped on the opportunity to give the OP the benefit of their pent up aggression

I hope they all feel a bit better now. And I hope the puppy is okay.

SoMuchToBits · 22/02/2010 18:56

I posted on this thread (even though I don't own any pets and wouldn't want any) because I thought it would be interesting to put the point of view of someone who is genuinely frightened of dogs.

However, I have not become irate or cursed (so far as I am aware). I hope this hasn't caused a problem.

pagwatch · 22/02/2010 19:00

no [sigh] only PenisDog on mn when I was trying to type about him not peeing in the snow as it was penis high and got all muddled.....

No , we didn't use the shit comand either. we got him at christmas so it was more
plleeesasssee hurry up -its freezing...

I tend to exagerate for imagined comedic effect

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/02/2010 19:02

I've been bitten by a dog. Twas a Jack Russell. In a pack . I was surrounded and the little bugger got me from behind. I was somewhat peeved but I refrained from kicking although can't attest to the prettiness of my language at the time.

That's why I clicked on the thread. Can't speak for anyone else though.

MrsL123 · 22/02/2010 19:07

It's more the irate and cursing bit that I have a problem with than the not-liking-dogs bit

I don't have any issue with someone kicking a dog if they genuinely fear for the safety of themselves, or their children, or even their own dogs (have had to resort to kicking a few dogs in my time when they had mine pinned down by the throat). It's no different to kicking a person who is threatening you or attacking you, in my opinion. But I think most of us would use our judgement with regards to the size of the dog, and wouldn't resort to angrily kicking a miniature breed puppy in the tummy, unless possibly it was trying to chew a toe off. Of course if you're dog phobic, you're acting on instinct and might not be able to help kicking out as a knee jerk reaction, the same as some people flap about if a bee comes near them. But even in that situation, I think any decent person would feel incredibly bad about it and would be concerned that they may have hurt the puppy, rather than swearing at the owner. That's why I don't believe for one second this man was just dog phobic, but rather just a horrible, horrible person.

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 19:18

penis dog is kind of growing on me I must say.... hang on I'll see if I can use it for the Kennel Club name that I am still deciding upon

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 19:21

woo hoo

kennel Club says

[breeders affix] Penisdog: The name does not conflict with a registered name in the breed or an active Kennel Name.

However, the name will be subject to further validation if submitted and we cannot guarantee it will be accepted.

Could be in with a chance then.

at Snowdropexpert

Oh please do!

I don't want to put you off but his full name was actually PenisDogPenis - but that was just silly and didn't stick

(he is on my profile - you will faint with how lovely and unpenis like he is. Unless you know men with fluffy penises ( is that the plural ?) although having more than one penis would be rather odd in and of itself.)

But anyway. Please do!
I would tell PenisDog. he would be so pleased.

pagwatch · 22/02/2010 19:23

hurrah !

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 19:29

If we win best in show at Crufts (yeah right) I'll give a little acknowledgement to Penisdog the first in my teary speech.

Loving the photos of penisdog in the snow, did a double take as I thought you'd put white matchy booties on him to keep his paws warm

dur

OrmRenewed · 22/02/2010 19:32

I prefer the sound of 'cockdog' myself.

pagwatch · 22/02/2010 19:34

at cockdog

that is kind of 'does exactly what it says on the tin' isn't it

and ROFL at teary acceptance speech thanking the Original PenisDog.
And btw your puppy pictures are making me

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 19:43

i am enjoying this post "love the people wo go for walks on the moor with their best clothes on!)"

yes the poor stupid fuckers, they should go out in rags so that dogs can jump all over them.

junglistwaspoorendof · 22/02/2010 20:15

Of course people who hate dogs had to come over here as if it's AIBU to chat rubbish. Anyone who has said kicking a PUPPY is OK is just being controversial and trying to cause a row.
So basically I agree with everything the animal lovers have said

But surely you don't agree with booting a pup.
