What's the best pet name you've come across?

I'm partial to pets with very beige, mid-century human names like Colin, Dave, Alan, Brenda, Sandra, Deidre.

A lady I worked with once rescued a really vicious parrot and renamed him Thomas-a-Peckitt.

I've just got back from a dog walk where we met a giant, perfectly rounded, sandy coloured staffy called King Edward to reflect the fact he's basically a potato.

I can't stop smiling. I had to share it with someone.

i had two mandarin ducks named Francis (Drake) and Vi (a Duck)
I have a dachshund who I longed to call Ethel Longbelly but my family wouldn’t allow it - instead she’s a Doris the dachshund, my other dog is Mr Percy Pickle

I knew someone with two dogs named Brandy and Shandy, and a cat called Gimlet

DB has a shitzhu called Janice and a sausage dog called Ralph.

I do a momentary double take when he says he's taking Janice & Ralph out for walks because the name combo makes me think they're his neighbours or something

I read on MN years ago there was either a cat or dog called Taxi.

One of my cats came with the name ‘Fizzy’ but this has now evolved into ‘Lord Fizzlewick’!

We have a guinea pig named Albert.

Years ago I had goldfish named Terry and June.

For some reason cats called Dave really tickle me.

There’s a greyhound in our park called Skinny Minnie and also 2 Staffordshire terriers called Kelly and Donna.

I’ve also come across a parrot called Beaky Smalls!

My cat is called Ian! He is the sweetest sweetest cuddly boy, aged 13, who looks like he was in a few too many scraps in a past life.

The rescue were doing alphabetical cat names and he was I…. God knows why they plumped for Ian but he stole my heart and I couldn’t bear to change it- he’s my IanyBeany when he gets all cuddly.

Our cattery got 2 new kittens of their own, a brother and sister and apparently she was small and feisty and he was big and daft (and ginger, IYKYK!) and regularly pounced on and lost all the games to his little sister. She had a perfectly normal name and he is “Dodger…. Because he doesn’t” 😂 which kills me every time I see him!

Ferret pairs called Ping & Pong (they do have an odour) and Ruff & Tumble.
A tiny dog called Kaiser.
A dog called Roach - I asked the owner if that was because he was neutered (part missing) but she just looked puzzled.

Thinking of nnaming my Charlie with Checkpoint, as he's set up a barricade at the door of his crate to guard the toy inside (he can be a fierce little resource guarder).

I used to have a cat called Hitler because he had the moustache.
Because I had Hitler, a boy in my class named his turtle Bin Laden.

Family friends had terrapins called Captain and Toenail. Toenail had started out as Tennille but as it meant nothing to their kids it morphed into Toenail.

We had a Rottweiler called Tinker bell and she really was A Very Good Girl. I do love naming animals. Best one was a tiny hairless Chinese crested boy bred and kept, he had white blonde furnishings on his head and feet and really lovely eyes. He had the stature and grace of a (12 inch tall) champion dressage horse and we called him Dave (Bowie) to reflect his glorious sassiness and stage presence. He was pure magic to watch prancing around and he genuinely thought he was about 60kg 🤷🏼‍♀️😂🥰.

I once knew a Jack Russell who lived in a pub called Smirnoff. Smirn for short. She was a sweetie.

We currently have Opal Floof and Betty Boo but our best name was for our black kitten who climbed up the curtains was Spider - made all the better because my surname was Webb at the time. We loved going to the vet for his vaccinations and them calling out “Spider Webb”!

He was the best cat ever and died aged 16 a few years ago. RIP 🖤

A cat called Britney Spears 😁

Whilst in the Vets came across a cat called King Tubby, he wasn't big but named after the Sound System. Also a cat called Bollocks... the owner looked bit embarrassed when she gave the name 😅

One of my kittens came from the rescue with the name Derek 😂 we liked his name so kept it, he's nearly 7 now 🙀
