Dog I don’t want and never asked for that I’m scared of

Basicallly I don’t know what to do with a dog that I’m scared of and don’t want in my house.
My partner got the dog without asking because his friends dog had puppies. I’ve never owned a dog in my life and first as it was young it was fine.

then the dog got older and it’s a large dog, I don’t want to say the breed, but it’s big. I’m more of a cat person although I don’t have cats atm.
anyway my partner works away. Often I’m alone with the dog and my 3 youngest kids.

My eldest boys don’t live away but they’re often out wirh friends especially at the weekend.
They do come home in the evening obviously as they’re only 14 and 12. But then home they do the dog care because I am scared of the dog. They do the feed and walk etc. but weekends from around 11am to 11pm it’s all on me.

The dog isn’t super aggressive but he’s had his moments. I’m rambling I’m so sorry I’m just not sure what to do and where I can go. Partner doesn’t listen, my eldest kids like the dogs, youngest 3 are scared but may be because they’ve picked it up from me.
i don’t want the dog to be put to spew he’s only bitten twice within the family. No where will take him when I ask and say theyre full.
please can someone give advice and options I asked on FB groups and got bad things said and even mocking of my account photos and children which were just day to day photos and really unjustified thabjs

I’m thinking more of the fact that 5 months ago you had a partner and you’ve split from him and are with his stepfather now. What do they feel about that?
Was your ex the father of any of your kids?

Edited

Oh sorry. He’s the father of my 3 youngest. There all fine wirh it my eldest was surprisd but he’s accepted it but it’s unusual obviously so he’s allowed his opinion

Well it was a rather odd thread to start with but it's taken quite a turn now!

Not sure if the Daily Mail will be interested but I can see this story being picked up by Hollywood film writers. It's a true love story.

sparrowhawkhere · 28/09/2026 10:41

I hope for the children that this is a joke. At least 2 dads involved and 5 children. Why do you need to be in a relationship?! Put your children first

LifeOnEnceladus · 28/09/2026 10:46

Wow.

Is this the script for a soap opera?

Hopelesscase32 · 28/09/2026 20:30

This sounds like a an episode of Jeremy Kyle

Ticking time bomb. Tick tok, tick tok, tick tok.
If the dog lives in a chaotic home, which you seem to imply then it's not fair on the dog.

Our dog a beagle was rehomed from a welfare charity with a 'bite' history. Only the dog wasn't a biter. She had previously been housed with young children who teased her with food at meals times, and she jumped up and caught their fingers. Dog labelled a biter. .She's never bitten us or anyone else.

Edited: just seen OP's update, so ignore what I've written!

Bloody hell. Episode of Jeremy Kyle 😳

AmberPeaches · 29/09/2026 23:15

Jesus….. just proving the stereotypes about the type of people who own these aggressive, untrained big dogs. Your poor kids….

seahorsessky · 29/09/2026 23:25

Poor kids, and dog. Did your partner ever train him? A healthy, well bred, well trained dog does not bite. It is not ok to get a dog without the consent of everyone you live with. You should have walked when he did that.
Dogs, like children, should be wanted and cared for, and there's serious consequences if they aren't. No doubt people will complain about dogs being unsafe if he bites, but it is not his fault. And your kids shouldn't have to be unsafe.
Crazy to think it's illegal to have a car without a licence, test and insurance, but someone like your partner can have a dog and children.
For your safety OP, find someone who won't get a pet without discussing it, and agreeing what type you want, and making sure it is trained and safe.

The partner is ex. The dog is dead. The op is playing happy families with her Ex’s stepfather. So all lovely. Hope no more kids are dragged into this shit show.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 30/09/2026 10:43

Threads like this always make me chuckle at an old phrase that used to be bandied about on here - I may be paraphrasing slightly …

’How different from the home life of our own dear Queen’

BusterGonad · 30/09/2026 14:30

Copperoliverbear · 30/09/2026 14:35

Get rid of your partner and his dog.

Partner and dog both long gone. In different ways. Always useful to read the Op's posts at least!!

It’s not as bad as it sounds. My kids. Benefit from this in a way my ex partner was never much of a dad orher than providing the money. It was always his stepdad who took my kids to the park, zoo football boxing swimming, dance class for my daughter. It’s not been a huge change since he isn’t living with us and probablg won’t ever as he has his own place and things going on
But like I said I’m used to comments at this point

OP, with the greatest respect, it is as bad as it sounds.

Your older children are out til all hours, one of their fathers hasn't had any involvement for years, the father of the youngest 3 is now out of the picture (apart from possibly, hopefully, paying child support), and you are now in a relationship with a man your children knew very well as their step grandfather.

It IS as bad as it sounds.
