Can I draw your attention to this please ?
A village of 400 people in Oxfordshire, the government want to house 1200 migrants in an old RAF barracks nearby. No consultation and no infrastructure to support.
Before anyone accuses me of being racist, my family make up negates that.

You think rapists are stopping to put on a condom?

According to a recent interview with a translator on LBC she said that a new to the country asylum seeker who claimed to be gay was charged with rape a few months later and no, he didn’t put a condom on.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 21/08/2026 16:47

I should have clarified, he raped a woman, very heterosexual of him.

I don’t believe the system we have should stay. I think it is shocking that any person has to risk their life to seek shelter in another nation, only then to be treated as if they are sub human when they get there. I think it is ridiculous that it takes years for an asylum claim to be approved or rejected and in that time people have to live on the most meagre of rations in sub-par accommodation, unable to work to support themselves.

If we are to continue with our responsibilities under international law, and I think we should, we need to have more safe legal routes for asylum seekers, a more streamlined process for application, preferably one that can be started without having to come here first, that would benefit everyone involved.

When I hear of any rape, I am utterly appalled that women are still being subjected to this, that our safety is compromised by men, that we are still facing the same risks we have for centuries and it is accepted. Getting rid of asylum seekers isn’t going to change that, nor move the dial in any meaningful way in terms of the numbers of attacks being carried out. Anyone who believes it would should step away from the Daily Mail and stop falling for the weaponisation of VAWG to achieve a racist agenda. I’m not going to be lectured to about my safety by a group of men who statistics have shown are very likely to have their own convictions for domestic abuse. At one of our local protests, a female counter protester was punched and pushed to the ground by those claiming they were there to protect women and girls. Suggesting this is the “price we pay” for meeting our international obligations is disingenuous to say the least.

There’s much I take issue with in your post but in particular - how can removing asylum seekers not reduce the number of attacks being carried out? We are getting news about appalling attacks by asylum seekers pretty much every day. Are you saying these reports are fabricated in some way?

I’m not going to deny that these attacks take place, but I think that often they make headlines where rapes and attacks by local people wouldn’t.

Yes... they are told to say they are gay and facing persecution.

The headlines are irrelevant.
The fact they happen is very much so.
We are allowing these men the opportunity to rape... they have taken priority over the safety of women and girls ( and old men )....are you OK with that ?
Because you very much seem to be.

So they take place and it’s ok or..?

Should the victims just accept it’s part of our system

Our army barracks was used for Ugandan refugees in 1970s. A fantastic piece of our town’s history. I understand the nervousness but nimby ism isn’t helpful. There’s a need and an identified solution. Would you support it if you didn’t live there?

Ours was used as a resettlement camp for Polish refugees after the war - there were over a quarter of a million Poles resettled in total. Many worked on local farms but there were also a lot of professionals among them: doctors and dentists and the like who provided invaluable services in a rural community. They were very much welcomed.

MaturingCheeseball · 21/08/2026 17:22

I can only surmise that some posters here do not have daughters. If I lived in Piddington life would have to change. And number 1 would be making sure my dd was not walking home from the bus stop after school.

How can posters marry up the contents of the leaflet issued to asylum seekers with their assertion that women/young girls have nothing to fear from them ? I suppose their constant refrain is that it does not matter . Our duty is to accept anyone who presents as an asylum seeker and if 1 in 100 or 99 out of 100 are rapists then that is irrelevant.

Does that still apply for you now for over 1000 males seeking asylum?

Less than 40% of claims are granted. It seems to me that those awaiting processing should be confined to secure accommodation and surely ex-military facilities fit the bill? Better than hotels at any rate.

The Poles had been granted asylum, they weren't awaiting a decision, hence they were not confined to camp as these men presumably will be.

They're not confined and they're not secure. That is the point.

No they’re not confined. It’s not incarceration, they are free to leave.

Or they have committing more.

Either way, they are 'unnecessary' attacks - each a life ruined by someone who shouldn't have been in the country.

Datafan55 · 21/08/2026 17:33

Paganpentacle · 21/08/2026 16:44

They don't even see it as rape, so I doubt they'll be stopping to put a condom on.

Yes it's true, they see it as their right etc.

However I'd imagine some of the more canny ones will 'wise up' to condom = no DNA.

Why do you let her walk home now? It’s not only men from other countries who can harm
her. In fact it’s statistically more likely that she will be harmed by a man or boy she knows, so I’m not sure walking home from the bus stop is the priority concern. My DDs were always collected from school by me, their father or a relative.

Well that seems foolhardy. Really, they should be in secure premises until a decision is made - but I suppose that is impossible as the current decision time can be anything up to 2 years, when it really should be a matter of weeks.

Perhaps but decisions are based on information given and there’s no way to check really. Some perpetrators still get asylum eg the Belfast attacker.

It’s not a very good system for safeguarding.

I wonder how it was done with the Poles, Ugandans, Vietnamese etc? I remember Vietnamese 'boat people' children at school with me in the 1970s.

This thread was started/that PP poster's comment was about Piddington, where she'll have 1200 more men at said bus stop. If you're talking statistics, try the maths.

I find it highly unlikely that all the men in Piddington will be at the bus stop. But even if they were, the most dangerous person to someone’s DD is still any unrelated man known to the household. Sad but true. But as I said, I didn’t leave my precious DD’s hanging around bus stops, barracks or otherwise, so I didn’t need to calculate which type of man was more of a risk when she was out in the street. Treat them all as equally dangerous.

Don’t be so ridiculous. You honestly don’t think that 1200 men, issued with a “do not rape” guide, are no threat?

AmIReallyTheGrownup · 21/08/2026 18:23

There is a massive difference in safety between a small village of less than 400 people where likely most people know each other, or of each other, and having 1200 unemployed & under-occupied men of unknown provenance wandering around.
