So none of these are things that impact the ordinary working person

Of course they do. Do you know anyone who needs a job?

Poppingby · 19/08/2026 09:14

I want more tax rises. I also want more community swimming pools, money for schools, libraries to come back, GP appointments, and increased defence spending that doesn't take money from all that. Unfortunately there is no Magic Missile Tree that will provide any of that without more taxes.

And YES I'm a relatively high earner who owns property in the south east. I'm just also not a self interested wanker, although I have been on 3 foreign holidays this year.

Don’t answer for the PP, please - that’s rude.

Is it ?

I thought it was an open forum.

I think that is half the fun on a forum. People coming in, picking up points etc.

So how much extra tax are you paying now since the Tories lost ? I don't mean an exact number, just a ball park % of your total household income per average , typical, month, up or down.

OK Jack. 👍

My organisation is still hiring!

As I said, you're alright Jack. Do you expand your observations outside your own realm?

That’s good, which sector is it in it could help others to know

But aside from that if you look at threads on here you’ll see real everyday stress. Obviously it’s ok it someone is retired or doesn’t need to work but for many it’s a major issue. Especially for young people.

It is everyday stuff, fundamentally so.

Mountainbetweenus · 19/08/2026 09:31

EasternStandard · 19/08/2026 09:06

The top one in particular impacts jobs, as can be seen in the day to day threads re adult dc trying to get a job. Plenty of extra stress there.

Absolutely, look at the youth unemployment numbers at 16.4%

China stopped reporting after 20%….

Yeah. Do you remember Thatcher's 80s ?

I don't mean that as a whataboutism, rather it leads into a question.

When was the UK like what you would like it to be now ? You know, in terms of the issues you are not happy about as you made that post ?

Yes anyone with a young adult dc is right to be concerned, if they care about them working which most parents do.

Labour was warned about the impact of that tax rise but did it anyway.

Perhaps our values are different, but I am not keen on people answering for me, or putting words in my mouth.

So what % change approx in your house income since the Tories lost ?

EasternStandard · 19/08/2026 09:45

Not sure on the badgering about personal tax if the IMF can discuss the high tax burden and peak tax and the OECD can talk about the negative impact of the job tax then so can the op.

TopPocketFind · 19/08/2026 09:52

And 'badgering' about owning a business or going on holiday is different how?

TemperanceWest · 19/08/2026 09:54

TopPocketFind · 19/08/2026 08:44

Easy to do if you do not have much else to go on.

🤣

Businesses are pretty key, if you know anyone who wants a job.

What badgering ? Asking someone a what approx % change house income changed after a change of government, on a thread about government tax policy?

How on earth is that badgering ? I would call it base information.

EasternStandard · 19/08/2026 10:04

One major issue is people can’t see the impact on tax on things like jobs.

Jobs actually are needed by our dc. Most of us anyway.

Economic inactivity is rising, there are fewer job vacancies, sure it might impact votes as people dependent on the state might vote for a particular party. But on a big picture level it’s a big problem and sliding into more of it is concerning.

TopPocketFind · 19/08/2026 10:07

We need to invest more in health, youth services, education, apprenticeships and ofcourse offer decent wages?

BIossomtoes · 19/08/2026 10:08

The job market is much more complex than employers’ taxes. This has already been recognised in Millburn’s report on youth unemployment and the proposed measures to help ameliorate it already outlined by Burnham.

Favouritefruits · 19/08/2026 10:09

If you want nice things you have to pay for it! Money has to come from somewhere!

You do understand NAV’s etc too, right?

Sentiment, retail and business confidence?

What current exposure do you have to the UK employment market please - real world, real exposure?

Did you pay tourist tax on your holiday @Mountainbetweenus ?
