Where did you holiday this summer?

Nowhere. Nor will I be going on holiday for the foreseeable future. Although what relevance that has eludes me.

Mountainbetweenus · 19/08/2026 08:49

iveseenthefilms · 19/08/2026 08:48

What has this got to do with anything?

I’m on a low wage and haven’t seen a single tax rise.

Don’t answer for the PP, please - that’s rude.

People just want to take away money from foreigners and disabled people instead.

The relevance is - many could not afford to go, given the COL/tax rises.

Don’t police a thread, please.

Holidaying abroad or not doesn’t make a difference. The fact of it is the taxes we pay (aside from council tax) haven’t risen.

Council tax needs to rise to pay for adult social care.

And many could. Nobody has been prevented from taking a holiday because of tax rises because there haven’t been any for people on PAYE.

You live in a different world, my friend.

There have been significant tax rises since Labour entered government, and they have impacted higher earners, SME’s, farmers, HNW’s etc.

I don’t think anyone minds paying tax for good services but there is so much money wasted.

Did you miss out on a holiday?

You keep trotting this line out, and you could not be more wrong.

No, we holidayed in France and Italy, and my DC also went to the US.

Your imaginary tax rises can’t be that bad then.

Please demonstrate the day to day tax rises that Burnham has brought in?

NHS and Councils and now unnecessary dual security for an on trend PM.

Major Tax Changes and Increases

  • Employers' National Insurance: Raised the main rate of employers' NICs to 15% and lowered the secondary threshold to £5,000.
  • Capital Gains Tax (CGT): Increased the main rates of capital gains tax alongside adjustments to business asset disposal relief and investors' relief.
  • Inheritance Tax (IHT) on Pensions: Brought unused pension funds and death benefits payable from a pension into the scope of inheritance tax.
  • Threshold Freezes: Extended the freeze on personal income tax and national insurance thresholds across multiple financial years, pulling more earners into higher brackets via fiscal drag.
  • Salary Sacrifice: Placed caps on salary sacrifice pension schemes above which national insurance contributions apply.
  • Targeted and Indirect Adjustments: Applied VAT to private school fees and moved to reform non-domiciled tax status rules

I don't even know why that question was relevant. Does your thread title mention Burnham raising taxes?

What was the relevance of questioning me about holidays?

The top one in particular impacts jobs, as can be seen in the day to day threads re adult dc trying to get a job. Plenty of extra stress there.

So none of these are things that impact the ordinary working person

rubyrued · 19/08/2026 09:06

Every party will raise taxes, we have an ageing population so it’s inevitable

Threshold freezes absolutely do impact the working person…

The Tories did this, for some reason it took a while for people to notice though.
