to ask why you wouldn’t sign the petition?

The petition set up by Amy Desir (one of the women who self identified as a man to attend a men only swim session) is asking the government to consult women on privacy and dignity that could be removed or impacted by proposed changes to the gender recognition act.

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

The petition is merely asking for debate - doesn’t it come to something when women have to petition the government to have to ask to debate their safety?

Most gender critical feminists recognise trans human rights but we don’t want their identity and wishes to be placed above our safety.
I posted on MN recently about my experience of living in a domestic violence refuge as a child and now I was terrified of men, a male bodied person presenting as a female in that safe space would have terrified me and impacted my PTSD more than the other experiences already have.

If you haven’t signed it why not? Please reconsider, if only so both sides can be heard. Of course signing isn’t mandatory and I’m not angry but I would be interested in hearing more.

If you would like to sign it, you can find it here
petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118 - your details are kept private. Please consider sharing.

Sarsparella · 21/03/2018 19:32

It’s entirely confidential, your name & details won’t be shared anywhere & you don’t have to share the petition yourself, just click the link & sign :)

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 21/03/2018 19:32

I’m not anti-trans I’m anti-self-ID and anti-redefinition of women.

Most people who commit indecent exposure are male. They get a kick just from knowing that a woman or child has seen their penis. People with this sort of fetish would have a field day in female changing rooms. It's not taboo to discuss it.

All we are asking for is an open, respectful discussion.

If sex segregated spaces are not needed, why do we have them.

Do we still need them or not?

Let's talk about this.

If you agree, please sign the petition and talk to your family members about it to see if they would like to sign to.

There's nothing to lose but we might gain some very valuable and insightful discussion.

Thank you.

Liara · 21/03/2018 19:34

Because I'm tired of women acting like pathetic little things that have to be protected from the evil trans women and I don't want anything that would align me with them?

I totally fail to see how trans women going about their lives like women is so fucking dangerous. And even if it was a bit dangerous, I'll take that in exchange for people's freedom to be themselves.

BiologyMatters · 21/03/2018 19:36

I don't know why any woman wouldn't sign a petition that calls for women to be allowed to discuss and be consulted on a proposed change in the law which will directly affect them.

Imagine this was about the right of women to access education, or bank accounts, or maternity services or abortion. It doesnt matter what the issue is. What matters is that women, normal ordinary women are being attacked, threatened and silenced because they are fighting for their voices to be heard.

If you don't think its right that some people should be allowed to use aggression, intimidation and violence to stop women speaking out then please consider signing it. This time it's gender. What will women be silenced on next?

Babyplaymat · 21/03/2018 19:36

Well, tell the powers that be that you want to be consulted and tell them that. The petition is just asking for a voice, up to you what you say with it.

Fairenuff · 21/03/2018 19:38

Because I'm tired of women acting like pathetic little things that have to be protected from the evil trans women

'Evil' transwomen have signed the petition too Liara. This affects them too. It's just a discussion where all views can be accommodated.

GrannyGrissle · 21/03/2018 19:39

Signed and shared

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 21/03/2018 19:41

Trans women have signed the bloody petition! Why does it have to be so black and white?

OP posts:
skippykips · 21/03/2018 19:41

Signed! Thank you for sharing as I didn't know there was a petition!

NoqontroI · 21/03/2018 19:41

Because it would not go down well with my employer sad Im too scared to be an out TERF which Im ashamed of, but I gotta pay my bills..

It wouldn't go down well with mine. I would probably lose my job. But it's confidential, which is why I have signed it.

SuitedandBooted · 21/03/2018 19:42

DailyWailEatsSnails

Why don't you want women to have a debate? It's a simple question.

Just why?

anothernewone · 21/03/2018 19:45

Signed- wish I had the bottle to share on social media

NoqontroI · 21/03/2018 19:47

Because I'm tired of women acting like pathetic little things that have to be protected from the evil trans women

I doubt there is many here that have any worries or concerns about the genuine transwomen. They have been living quietly alongside us for years. There never has been an issue with this. This is about the risks from people who aren't really trans (unlike our genuine trans sisters are) but want access to female spaces simplified by the self ID process.

MrsWooster · 21/03/2018 19:49

Can we stop talking about too,etc and changing rooms and start to think about whether we and our daughters have a right to sleep, undress, be medically examined, just BE, not in the presence of a penis? When my dd is adolescent, she has a right to privacy to be in her weird, changing body without a male bodied person present. Trans people have a right to safe spaces too and that fight remains to be fought but NOT AT THE COST OF GIRLS AND WOMEN.

FencingFightingTorture35 · 21/03/2018 19:50

Great, ANOTHER anti-trans thread on MN.
I'm woefully ill-informed... except about the rabid evangelical tone of the anti--trans threads on MN

I just don't understand this.

The petition is asking for debate to happen. Surely you want to live in a society where different views are considered and heard before major decisions are made Confused. That is at the very heart of a democracy. What's bigoted or transphobic about talking things through?

I could understand your post if it was a petition for getting rid of trans people but it's nothing of the sort.

MrsWooster · 21/03/2018 19:50

Arse: toilets, not too etc!

Frequency · 21/03/2018 19:50

I'm not transphobic.

I've signed.

I don't give a shiny shit what people of any gender wear, what they present as or what they call themselves. Transgender people should be able to go about their lives without prejudice or fear but so should women and at the moment, I don't feel safe. No solid details about this proposal have been publicized but Swim England are already saying grown men can join my young daughter in the women's changing room simply by claiming to 'feel like a woman on the inside'.

I'm not okay with that. I want it to be heard that I am not okay with that. I am not okay with men with functioning penises being housed with women prisoners. I am not okay with people with male biology and male hormones and male physiology and strength playing sports against my daughters.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3671937/Transgender-British-athletes-born-men-set-make-Olympic-history-competing-games-women.html

^ links for anyone who still believes this isn't happening.

If transgender men and women want to campaign for their own positions in politics, their own safe spaces, prisons and sports, I am more than happy to fight with them for that right but biology is not a feeling and there are some things you can't identify away from, for that reason there has to be a line when it comes to including transwomen. That line is being erased.

Elendon · 21/03/2018 19:50

I signed and shared on social media. I was astounded at the response and have made new social contacts and it's actually revitalised my local network.

I applaud you all who have signed. Please don't be afraid. xx

AlonsosLeftPinky · 21/03/2018 19:51

Because I don't want to.

I don't feel any more threatened by men than I do by women. I'm all in favour of mixed gender spaces.

QueenArseClangers · 21/03/2018 19:52

Agnes and shared on FB.

QueenArseClangers · 21/03/2018 19:52

Fairenuff · 21/03/2018 19:53

Can we stop talking about too, ,etc

No. Please don't try to shut down discussion. This is what the whole petition is about.

Also, you just posted 'Trans people have a right to safe spaces too'
