Syrian christians are much higher on the genocide stages so of course they have preference - they are at stage 9, as is Iraq. Obviously those people need asylum far more.

So do you agree then, if genocide watch declares SA at stage 8 or 9, that then white south africans could get asylum?

jassy yes, I linked to a petition so we can discuss the idea.

correct.

why is that awful?

I had a theory that because the group in question is white south africans, the other wise quite caring populace of MN would not be interested because of how they are percieved. And i was right

You talk nonsense op

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:49

so far I'm right though. ha.

Hmm
MuddhaOfSuburbia · 11/08/2015 21:50

stuff from Africa Watch/wiki upthread contradicts the genocide theory

in my (limited) experience- temping with people from SA years ago- I know this fear of 'genocide' has been a thing since the fall of apartheid

I'd point out you can't 'go back' to somewhere your forefathers left hundreds of years ago

if genocide did occur, you would be considered for asylum with all other applicants fleeing areas of genocide, if you got this far-and you'd have to hope you'd have better luck than others trying to flee SA during the apartheid era

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:50

prorsum kinda like how you've only met some white south africans but you seem to think they all might be racist?

touche.

What Jassy said
I sincerely hope SA sorts itself out: it's a beautiful country with many, many very good people in it (of all colours).

But jumping the asylum queue? No.

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:52

ok, it depends on which source you regard as reliable.

I consider genocide watch reliable.

I have no opinion on africa watch/wiki because i really don't know anythng about how runs those sites. BUT, I have concern about how reliable stats are from the SA government because they won't allow UN observers into the country to look into the rates of violence. That, to me, is a big red flag.

But I'll stick with stanton, because he does good work.

prorsum · 11/08/2015 21:52

Not really. You chosen a bunch of racists for us all to get teary eyed about. Not gonna happen.

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:53

I'm just gong to say this once. Please read.

I do not agree that south africans should 'jump the queue'

I think they should have their asylum claims asessed exactly the same as any other refugee.

That is all.

OP posts:
lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:54

prorsum thank you, I know that's how a lot of people feel.

They do.

JassyRadlett · 11/08/2015 21:57

So do you agree then, if genocide watch declares SA at stage 8 or 9, that then white south africans could get asylum?

I think you need to look to your own reading comprehension, as that's not what was said.

And neither are asylum claims in any country determined on a mass basis, or on the basis of the work of academics in Virginia.

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:57

March actually I thnk it depends on the country.

In Canada there's evidence they aren't asessed the same due to fear of pissing off the SA government.

Im SA I'm not racist nor fazed as I'm moving back there in two weeks from ten years of struggling in the UK. I've already have a job offer and can buy a house which i wouldn't be able to here. I'm dual nationality and have had two passports from birth. The fact of how we seen to be perceived on MN astounds me as I've only ever heard good things about us. We aren't racist either in fact i didn't even live in Apartheid times and I'm 35!

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 21:59

jassy lost, sorry.

I've met very few but I've saw enough of their behaviour to give me a very good idea of how odious the vast majority of them were/are.

You remind me of an Afrikaner. I remember I used to watch them on the news; they were so obtuse, stuck on the same loop of denial. With them it was "the blecks are quite happy and we don't need outsiders telling us how to treat them".

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 22:03

Jassy
I don't think that carries, sorry. You linked to a petition that suggests white people should get asylum priority given the colour of their skin and ethnic origins.

Which is pretty awful.

Not asylum priority, right of return ala Israel.

but yeah, you're right. i did this first thing this morning without thinking, and should have picked a better article.

OP posts:
JassyRadlett · 11/08/2015 22:03

jassy yes, I linked to a petition so we can discuss the idea.

You took a while to get around to discussing it, though. You threw out a link with no context or explanation, then insulted a bunch of people because you linked to a site that was frankly confusing and lacking in context, and you still haven't got around to explaining why you chose to promote a petition that promotes asylum for one group over groups that are at greater risk by your own chosen measure.

why is that awful?

What's awful is a petition that suggests white people should get asylum priority in Europe given the colour of their skin and ethnic origins.

MarchLikeAnAnt · 11/08/2015 22:04

Of course each country as its own asylum rules but I bet in each country an application is determined based on its individual merits.

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 22:05

ok, I"m an afrikaner now.

check.

carry on.

JassyRadlett · 11/08/2015 22:06

X-post. My comment that seems to have caused consternation was pointing out that you seemed to have misread Lumela's post.

MarchLikeAnAnt · 11/08/2015 22:06

You should do a little research on Stanton, there has been a lot of criticism about him, particularly his inability to separate fact from propaganda.

lastuseraccount123 · 11/08/2015 22:07

march who knows.
