A Viscous attack # 2

Catpiece · 15/08/2025 11:23

Is it okay for me to start a second thread of the highly entertaining viscous attack? Couldn’t see a sequel and don’t want to step foot on anyone’s toes
edited to add: I’m Cattery but with a name change x

@KhaleesiLikeSundayMorning Omg! In my last office every Christmas we had someone who going to be bringing in crudities as their contribution to the yearly party food day. Every year I corrected this on the list. Never made the slightest difference 🤬

Did nobody bring fuck-all?

TerminalMoraine · 17/10/2025 17:03

I saw a thread earlier advising PPs to be weary about buying Ugg boots from eBay, Vinted, etc.

PendantScorner · 17/10/2025 17:18

tartyflette · 16/10/2025 16:01

Yes, we say it like it’s pronounced in the original French.
Route being the French word for road as well as ‘route’, as in the way from A to B.
‘Rowt’ is really not at all common as a pronunciation in the UK. (Or at least in England)

It is if you work in manufacturing. Rout and router - not route.

HopeSpringsInfernal · 19/10/2025 20:52

I've seen 'eek out' on a couple of threads recently

PendantScorner · 19/10/2025 20:54

I've seen on mass today.

TerminalMoraine · 20/10/2025 00:17

Now you’re being ridicolous

Duel nationality anyone?

Isn't that fighting talk?

MagpiePi · 20/10/2025 11:30

Just heard on the radio, ‘…the onerous is on them..’ which kind of half makes sense.

I nearly posted a screenshot of the Active front page a couple of days ago just to capture the horror show of grammar in thread titles. It is getting to the stage where I do a double take at your/you’re being used correctly.

KhaleesiLikeSundayMorning · 20/10/2025 11:56

Yes, the Active page is a gold mine.

Today there are threads about prostrate cancer and surpressing weeds under fruit trees.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/10/2025 12:01

It's the 'could of' in Active that makes me cringe. 'Could I of done differently?' or similar. Someone is actually WRITING 'could of' - do they never stop to think 'have I ever seen this written down in a formal piece of writing?'

Honestly, I could of clawed my eyes out.

CalzoneOnLegs · 20/10/2025 14:42

@KhaleesiLikeSundayMorning spotted ‘Post-homous’ on the weekend

PendantScorner · 20/10/2025 15:48

I had a response to a thread with 'of' as a verb in the title deleted.
Posters tend to get really touchy if corrected.

Is that when you’ve still got half a bag of Doritos and nothing to dip them in?

I’m in no way dismissing this behaviour he no’s he done wrong

I do wonder if the only writing they see is auto generated captions on TikTok.
I also think there is the whole attitude of ‘its MY truth’ and anyone pointing out a spelling or grammatical error is making a personal attack on your integrity or belittling you.

Absolutely this on all counts

Passed the Use By date of course.

Chersfrozenface · 22/10/2025 07:11

The BBC at it again today.

"..the supply of oranges has been sown up by Brazil..."

MagpiePi · 23/10/2025 17:50

Anyone fancy reclining on a 'chez lounge'? It would have to go next to the chester drawers.

Catpiece · 23/10/2025 18:58

I wouldn’t say a chez lounge was unexplainable per say but maybe it could be placed next to some terry cotter pots

My local weekly newspaper (The Malton Gazette and Herald, because I believe in naming and shaming), this week has a very large front page headline about some new people taking over a local business. They are, apparently 'taking up the reigns.'

Honestly, if you can't even trust journalists, who can you trust? (I know, just about anyone...)

Catpiece · 25/10/2025 10:21

Beautifully written@Vroomfondleswaistcoat Yes, some writings really do sound the “death nail” for correct grammar and spelling.
