A Viscous attack # 2

Catpiece · 15/08/2025 11:23

Is it okay for me to start a second thread of the highly entertaining viscous attack? Couldn’t see a sequel and don’t want to step foot on anyone’s toes
edited to add: I’m Cattery but with a name change x

MagpiePi · 17/09/2025 07:54

From a relationships thread where they are still at the talking stage… ‘He is very clearly setting out his stool.’

😱

He sounds 💩

MagpiePi · 17/09/2025 09:17

He was explaining why it was ok for men to cheat in relationships, so quite clearly laying his shitty personality out for inspection.
🤮

CalzoneOnLegs · 17/09/2025 09:33

It doesn’t even make sense does it

I have heard that before, when I asked what they meant their explanation was,
' setting out my stool so you know where I am going to be sitting on this subject '
Which I guess has some logical behind it.

The correct saying is setting out your stall meaning to show what you’ve got/make your intentions clear. As in setting up a market stall to display your goods. It tickled my childish sense of humour as stool is the medical name for shit 💩

Yes, that’s what amused me too.
You can’t beat a bit of scatalogical humour!

He probably made his stool out of a log...

I’ve just seen Donald Trump described as a “bafoon”. I’m wondering if that’s a cross between a buffoon and a baboon. Clever x

Just saw a comment on a FB reel praising a retro 60s look as "a brilliant athletic".

PoolHog · 17/09/2025 23:58

Weary vs wary is everywhere…

It does make you wonder what’s happened to literacy. Too much online misspellings. Too much mishearing and assumptions. I find it both fascinating and depressing.

The misuse of "much" with plural countable nouns is becoming more widespread, although it remains grammatically incorrect.

PendantScorner · 20/09/2025 06:06

@AquaLeader , 'there aren't much pedants awake at 6'. 😧

Yes, I think it should be “many”. Thank you

That one pisses me off more than it should. Along with the whole discrete/discreet thing - these are two completely different words! Just having a vague similarity in spelling shouldn't be enough to get them confused but the next thing we know the OED will have them as alternatives for one another...

Sigh.

Can I add affect and effect? I suppose they're easier to confuse than some other words, but it still annoys me when I see it

@Vroomfondleswaistcoat They might be auto-corrections. The one that bothers me is councilling. It's not a word.

@HopeSpringsInfernal , I corrected someone on that earlier today. The confusion made no sense to me until I noticed how people say the words. Same with accept an except.

PendantScorner · 20/09/2025 14:35

and!

Today I read a thread saying that rigid mortis had set it.
