Yes, they use that too.

I mean come on, have a sentiment that wasn't scripted by Hallmark!

Totally, it's like a nonsense sentence painted on to a driftwood sign and put up in your porch isn't it?!

Goosegoosedick · 07/04/2025 19:14

An old acquaintance used to post on Facebook that she way enjoying “Some rest bite”. She meant respite. It annoyed me so much, I removed her as a friend on there.

I’ve written this post so carefully, I really hope I haven’t made any mistakes. 😂

Yes, and there are several such objets d'arse-wankery in their house.

POV when it’s not a point of view at all, it’s a fact.

I was today years old when…

I don’t know who needs to hear this but…

I wasn't sure if I should post this.

Well don't

This is the post I didn't think I would ever have to write

Again, don't

I hate 'having the ick' too and everyone seems to have forgot that it came into common parlance via Ally McBeal!

I hate:

This train/bus terminates here. No... The journey terminates, the method of conveyance doesn't blow up!

Also 'invite' - it's a verb, not a noun, you send someone an invitation!

Thanks for letting me get those off my chest! (Unless you hate the saying 'off my chest' of course!)

The journey doesn't terminate there either, unless you plan to sleep at the bus stop or railway station. Each passenger's journey will continue.

The bus or train service terminates there.

Also true - I applaud you!

That is the British pronunciation.

No it isn't- and even if it were it would still be wrong.

EddieVedderSingsToMe · 07/04/2025 19:58

Everyday when they mean every day. I drink coffee everyday. On a display in my child’s school: All day everyday. Fills me with rage. 😡

People misusing the word "reactionary".

I make and eat Yorksheer pudding. I realise that in Leeds they may well eat Yorksher pudding. I had a discussion with a Yorkshire woman about this many years ago. She had said to me, "I can tell you're not from Yorkshire, because you say 'Yorksheer'."

'been taken' annoys me. I'm not sure which evil, preying creature has been sitting there waiting to take.

Emptyandsad · 08/04/2025 01:04

Pronouncing chorizo as choritso as if it was an Italian word rather than choritho because it's Spanish. If you're going to go to the bother of pronouncing it in what you think is its original language then at least get the right bloody language

notatinydancer · 08/04/2025 01:15

Explain it to me like I’m 5.

Especially where you ask for choritho and they say “choristo?” as if correcting you! Although I don’t get so wound up about mispronunciation of foreign words, that’s a lot of languages you need to learn to pronounce everything correctly in the original language.

Having recently come back from Italy though I was cringing at myself for asking for two cappuccinos back at home, though two cappuccini sounds terribly pretentious!

It's pronounced BROOSHETTA in English! 🙃

I'm not from Yorkshire and say it like Yorkshur. It's near Lancashurr and north of Lincolnshur. I don't know anyone who talks about Yorkshyer, Derbyshyer, Wiltshyer etc Confused

usethedata · 08/04/2025 08:40

Gifting. Gifted. I just don't understand what's wrong with "given"!

"I was gifted this wonderful scarf".

Or worse... "there was so much gifting going on"

Makes me actually angry!

One I've seen recently is 'on accident' instead of 'by accident.'

Why?
