@IShouldNotCoco , I dislike the 'Enjoy!' too.
'Enjoy your meal/trip/...' is fine.

Exactly. It has become a lazy way to acknowledge what someone said. These things almost always start out that way,

Not using spaces after commas, this is so annoying,or too many spaces , like this , drives me wild!

I've got ,,, a friend who sends,,,, messages like this.

To be fair she's in her 80s so I think it's a not being good at technology rather than a not being good at SPAG issue. She's also been known to WhatsApp random words/names thinking she's typing them into google.

Personally I hate "fit" for "outfit" or "avo" instead of avocado, guac, cuc etc. Just use the proper word!

Ham and beef are not the same. Our butcher sells lamb-burgers.

It's nothing to do with ham (as in pork). It comes from Hamburg and so is called a hamburger. A frankfurter is from Frankfurt.

Out of culinary interest, can hamburgers and frankfurters have any kind of meat in them or are there strict rules?

With regard to the title of the thread, there is nothing actually wrong with the words 'He denies any wrong-doing' but it has become a very boring sentence. It's applied to a lot of people and circumstances.

Pedant5corner · 14/10/2025 13:07

@upinaballoon , hamburger will have minced beef in it, a frankfurter has cured pork or beef in it.

So a beefburger and a hamburger are the same thing? Very confusing, this..

Pedant5corner · 14/10/2025 19:03

Beefburger is a beef patty with nothing else. Hamburger is a beefburger in a bun.

Ah! Yes of course. Thank you.

It's not confusing in American English. A hamburger is a beef patty in a bun. The word "beefburger" is primarily British usage. In the US, anything other than a beef patty in a bun is just a sandwich.

Darknessagain · 15/10/2025 01:27

Does that mean there are no chicken burgers in the US, because they’re called chicken sandwiches instead @RitaIncognita?
I never quite realised that before, even though I spent some time there and probably ate a couple of them 😳

A hamburger is a meat patty in a bun.
The 'ham' is from 'Hamburg' not pig meat.
i don't know why they are called hamburgers.

Beefburgers are meat patties made from beef.

I remember when burgers didn’t dominate every menu that’s all I know.

In my experience, yes. They are all sandwiches.
