One of my girlfriends says 'sanGwitch' instead of sandwich.

WanderingTrolley · 25/04/2008 17:42

I, too, say droing, if I must. Usually I refer casually to 'the Picasso' or 'the darling little Emin sketch.' I say 'lawn' not 'grass' and need never speak of what the housekeeper does with my clothes. I have no need to mention days of the week or months of the year, that's why one has a PA.

I am tirribly poshe.

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/04/2008 17:46

Droing - not really 2 syllables, one long one, iyswim.

Am not posh.

WanderingTrolley - I am surprised you haven't fainted dead away at BoysAreLikeDogs' use of handbag. HANDBAG!!

pointydog · 25/04/2008 17:47

Aren't all these pronunciations to do with accent rather than pedantry?

Draw-ing, no R for me
PSML at hambag - lets hope it a Mn approved "nice ham"bag.
I say hand bag, in a very lady bracknell ish way, enunciating the D.

pointydog · 25/04/2008 18:00

People with an english accent often add an 'r' that does not exist if one vowel follows another.

eg 'the cinemar is closed'

uberalice · 25/04/2008 18:03

Draw-ing and Weddnsday.

What about drawer? Most people pronounce it draw.

And you know the one that really gets me? When a name ends in a vowel and is followed in a sentence by "and". On Peppa Pig, the narrator keeps saying Peppa-r'n-George.

uberalice · 25/04/2008 18:04
