Pedants' corner

I have been called racist. I want to argue my case against this charge in very precise, pedantic terms - so here I am.

Mehdismummy, please tell me why I am a racist?

So it's not really to do with these two threads then and the evidence has been deleted.

We're not going to get to the bottom of this.

Heathcliffscathy · 03/03/2008 22:41

i'm against earpiercing of babies too.

Heated · 03/03/2008 22:41

Read it. Couldn't find the racism.

purplejennyrose · 03/03/2008 22:41

And yes, race and religion are not the same things - Islam is not a race...

FAQ · 03/03/2008 22:42

because I don't......

Have no desire to argue about that issue now Soph - I came on to watch the "racism" debate

Blu · 03/03/2008 22:42

Oh, didn't realise the thread re islam had been deleted.

being anti-Islam is not, per se, racism.

noddyholder · 03/03/2008 22:43

Not racist at all Agree completely with monkey x

FranSanDisco · 03/03/2008 22:44

The old race card - how handy. I'm sick and tired of it being used to warn people off having any opinion that doesn't match the accusers. I'm off to bed.

RosaIsRed · 03/03/2008 22:44

I have seen no sign of MT being racist. FWIW I agree with her on the circumcision thing too. I don't believe anyone, even a parent, has the right to irreversibly alter a part of somebody else's body without their informed consent. That does not make me, or MT, a racist.

really monkey? It will be a cold day in hell before i retract anything. I was not talking about that thread. I was talking about the thread that was deleted because you and trolleydolley were against islam. So playing the innocent does not work with me. So you deny you are anti islam do you?

But that's got nothing to do with racism - you don't have to come from a certain race to have certain ^religion

monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 22:47

Well dig yourself a hole; it's only going to get deeper.

We can check with MN Towers why that thread was deleted and if I was the reason. Do you want us to do that? I actually disagreed with much of what Trolly dolly said, and especially the way she said it. We were not allies on that thread.

No, I am not "anti-Islam" but I am definitely an anti-Islamist. I respect the right of anyone to practice their religion but not of religions or cultures to dictate to and oppress others; there is a crucial difference.

mehdismummy · 03/03/2008 22:48

sorry maybe i was wrong to use the word racist. I meant that monkeytrousers is against islam. And will turn any debate to give her a chance to slam it. I apologise for using the wrong word. And btw my ds was in a childrens hospital in london so i am confident that he was ok.

Lauriefairycake · 03/03/2008 22:50

Glad you've explained

fishie · 03/03/2008 22:51

mehdismummy it is (getting bits chopped off or holes made in infants) a bit of an emotive subject though.

monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 22:52

It is Soph. But liberal democracy is built on the right to dissent via words; 'offence' is in teh eye of the beholder - it's all too Orwellian and thought crimey and quite frankly, such extreme political correctness scares the shit out of me.

OP posts:
MAMAZON · 03/03/2008 22:52

But to be anti mutilation does not equate to being anti islam. i would haev thought the jewish faith was more commonly connected with circumcision than Muslim

S1ur · 03/03/2008 22:53

Glad you've retracted your accusation of racism.

MT hasn't been racist or anti-muslim.

monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 22:53

and i always think of Aloha in moments such as this

OP posts:
monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 22:56

anti-Islamist Medismummy. Not anti-Islam.

I believe in a seperation of church and state, is all.

OP posts:
mehdismummy · 03/03/2008 22:58

sorry slur she is anti muslim. And i was not referring to that particular thread i was talking about another thread that she was blatantly anti muslim on. I just think that somebody who uses so many big words should actually research their opinions and not just read the tabloid view of islam

monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 22:59

Yes, Mamazon, I'd say the same in that scenario too.

This has all been pretty foul. Lets draw a line under it and try to forget it.

OP posts:
mehdismummy · 03/03/2008 23:00

oh there you go patronise patronise(feel free to correct my spelling)

monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 23:01

I am not anti-Muslim.

and I don't read tabloids.

Shall I give you a reading list so you can see my sources for yourself?

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 03/03/2008 23:02

at reading list.

monkeytrousers · 03/03/2008 23:03

By patronise, you mean disagree and explain why then?

That's a chip is on your shoulder.
