dresses with wraps or trousers and nice tops

i think

umm i can't really remember (i did get quite merry drunk!!!)

the men wore suits!!! that one i'm definite about

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 11:27

Ha ha ha - funny - I thought brides were so busy being beautiful that they don't notice other people's outfit but when my best friend got married in a woodland I had this lovely moment...

dp - Why don't you go and dance?

me - I don't know anyone appart from the bride and I can't steal her from everyone!

my bestfriend - (suddenly appears in her bridal glory) Will you come and dance with me?

me - (Gives a just met a movie star gasp)OH MY GOD!!! OK....sure!

we start dancing

my bestfriend - Your dress is really really nice!

me - Thanks!!! Hey - yours isn't bad either (both rofl)!!!

Anyway....

For my current eeeerrrmmm problem - Were the dresses plain or patterned and what kind of cut were the suits???? You see I had wanted to wear either a very feminine suit or a plain dress - something not too twee - but my sister says if I wear a plain dress I will look like a bridesmaid (her adult bridesmaid is wearing plain chocolate cocktail dress) and of course she wants her bridesmaids to stand out from the group.

I have seen a tea dress I quite like - but I think it looks a bit too mumsy/primary school teachery - I was hoping on at least half pulling off a "Just flew over from Paris like Carla Bruni aren't I simply tres chic!" look.... but I am a Mum and primary school teacher and although I live in Paris I am not tres chic so do you think I can pull off this look or should I try and be a bit cute and go for something that says "Mummy of that cute bridesmaid over there"?

My dh has a moth eaten suit - I think you can see why we had the wedding we did - As just being guests at a formal wedding is all I need for a complete mental meltdown!!!!

I am daft, hey?

i just looked at my friends face book for what they were wearing

one wore a little black dress with a cream wrap and a fantastic coat

another wore a maxi dress which showed her cleavage very well!! it was kind of black and cream!

my sister wore trousers and a wrap top (easy for getting her norks out to feed the bubba!!)

the older lady guests seemed to wear suits!!

saralou · 03/10/2008 12:03

oh my god, did you know you can steal photos from facebook!! i accidently right clicked on a picture and i managed to save it!!!! omg!!!!

but anyway i've put a picture on my profile of friends outfits!!!

TillyScoutsmum · 03/10/2008 12:05

Oooh T42 - I see you in a very chic, stylish, simple shift shape dress but maybe with a pattern so you stand out from the bridesmaids. something like this maybe ?

Post on style and beauty and I'm sure you'll get loads of suggestions.

The wedding I went to in January had lots of guests in black & white (dresses/wraps or trouser suits) and lots of patterned dresses

saralou · 03/10/2008 12:21

ooh thats nice!

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 12:24

oooohhhh - I like I like I like the Matilda dress - thanks!!!

Saralou - I love your photo - lovely "Had a great day" happiness - and great clothes!!!!

OK - I am slowly starting to get some plans together! Wanted to ask though. People who have chosen music to play as they go into a register office wedding... do you walk in to the music and then wait for the music to stop or do they stop it when you get to the registrar, or can they play it a bit and then you walk in at the very end?

I have chosen a song I like but it's quite long (Also has the word divorce in it!) and so I need more of an idea about how it works!

beanieb · 03/10/2008 17:01

oh and I want to get married in a woodland :crying:

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 17:48

It was beautiful! But your wedding will be beautiful too beanieb.

Since seeing the Matilda dress I am going to e-mail it to my sister and see if she minds it being black - if she does I will look out for that type of thing but in a different colour! It is right up my street for sister of the bride wear. I hope it is up her street too!

Thanks tsm - you have no idea how much the prospect of hunt for a perfect wedding outfit has been getting me down!

Beanieb - I don't know about wedding music but someone will answer your question, I am sure!!!!

What song have you chosen - can you give us a youtube link?

OP posts:
beanieb · 03/10/2008 19:20

The song is ... this one but the video is kind of distracting - ha ha!

beanieb · 03/10/2008 19:28

however - I love this song! here

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 19:33

the second is lovely... just lovely!

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 03/10/2008 20:05

Like both songs beanieb. You can chose one song to come in to, a couple (or 3) for signing the register and one to come out to. Put them all on to a disk and get someone to be in charge of music (my little brother is doing ours). The one to walk in to will be stopped once you get to the bottom of the aisle. Obviously depends how long your aisle is but I would suspect you'll need the first 1.5 minutes maximum. HTH !

T42 - hope your sis is ok with black. Imho I think it looks lovely at weddings - really stylish. There are some similar shaped dresses on there in different colours but they may be a bit garish patterns for you (I like some of them but definitely prefer the black & white one)

beanieb · 03/10/2008 20:57

found this site which is good for wasting hours on dreaming of the perfect wedding!

beanieb · 03/10/2008 21:01

Oh thanks very much dsm. I definitely feel there is something dodgy going on. Hopefully it'll all be ok in the end but if not, I may be heading your way to see if you've got any samples you're selling off

teafortwo · 04/10/2008 13:09

Pheeeeeeeeeeeww - I survived style and beauty - you could have given me some warning tsm!!!

After all that, once my sister e-mails back and hopefully says "Yaaaay", I think I am going to order the one you orgigionally suggested!!!!

I hadn't clicked that you are still having problems with your dress - thinking of you lots and sending good dress vibes your way!!!!

OP posts:
teafortwo · 04/10/2008 13:10

originally - ha ha ha - I was jumped on by dd!!!

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 04/10/2008 14:17

Yes - apologies for that - the S&B lot make Trinny & Susannah look shy and retiring There are all sorts of rules (no maxi dresses unless 5'6" or above. No high necks on a D cup + etc.). Its good fun though - I love "virtual" shopping for people.

Oh and its all your fault I haven't done any housework this morning as well. I got embroiled in your fooc threads - they're brilliant. Well done you

teafortwo · 04/10/2008 15:21

Oh tsm - welcome to the foocs side - It would mean a lot to me if you posted - we love posts from dear ole Blighty!!!!

Hi everyone, I found you (((((hugs!)))) I keep losing this thread!

DSWM - Hi I'm really close to ordering my dress now, I know a while ago you said you had some new stuff in?

this is the one i'm currently favouring but with blue embroidery Have you got anything like this or similar with a lace up back? I like it but the flowers are a bit on the big side for me and ideally I'd try it on in the right size and the right colours but I'm struggling.
