I always forget about this!

LMGs my SIL had alfred angelo dresses and they were a royal blue and looked lovely and very supportive for bigger boobs (although strapless).

nicolamumof3 · 11/01/2009 21:40

aaah thats so cute, ds1 is giving me away he will be 10, and ds2 and ds3 are ring bearers!!! hope they just walk where they have to!!

OhBling · 12/01/2009 17:02

Oh that's so cute Nicola!

LoveMyGirls · 18/01/2009 09:56

Hi girls, off bridesmaid dress shopping today really hope we can sort something! I'm taking dd's with me and am hoping they don't play me up, we're taking their ds's with us incase they get bored! Dd1 who is a really girly girl is saying she doesn't want to come and it's boring I was hoping she would be a bit more excited tbh.

lucysmam · 20/01/2009 20:48

good evening

do you mind if I join in? I've only been engaged afortnight but we have been planning on getting married in September for the past 2 years!! No plans set in concrete as yet though so time we I get cracking I think

lm xx

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/01/2009 20:52

Hey LMG - how did the dress shopping go ? Don't worry about dd - she'll get more excited as it gets closer. It probably still seems a long way off to her (even though it isn't !)

Welcome Lucysmam Tell us about your plans ? Anything booked yet ? What sort of thing are you thinking of ? And we love looking at/helping look for wedding dresses

Bling - how long left ??

lucysmam · 20/01/2009 20:58

Hi Tillyscoutsmum,

We have nothing booked as yet although I am going to write a to do list at some point over the weekend. We're thinking a small wedding with just family (probably only my oh's to be honest as me and mine hav fallen out) and a party with a buffet afterwards to invite all our friends to so long as the venue will let us cater it ourselves or isn't too expensive.

Whatever we do, it has to be fairly cheap as neither of our parents will be contributing & my oh has been laid off from work so there isn't a lot spare.

Dress wise, if anyone can point me in the direction of somewhere that sells really nice ones for £150 or less I'd be very grateful as I've not decided yet what I'd like, the ones I wsa looking at before are a bit out of my price range

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/01/2009 21:07

Dresses - would you consider second hand ? You can get some real bargains and if they've been properly cleaned etc., then can be as good as new. I would love someone to buy mine - it seems such a shame to have spent so much on something I wore for one day and for it to go to waste. I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same

For new dresses - I know a few people who have used these and have been very pleased

We got married in November and had the ceremony and then just a party after with buffet.

Let us know if you need any help with anything

lucysmam · 20/01/2009 21:13

I'll consider anything really, brand new, second hand, sale, made by family . . . if I can find some really nice fabric then my oh's aunt would probably make me a dress.

I've considered ebay before as well, when we were first lookingbut not looked on there for a while

If you can tell me where to start I'd appreciate it, seem to be just looking here & there without actually deciding or sorting anything. Where did you start?

Was yours the red dress?
Did you have any particular theme for your wedding & did you have kids there?

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/01/2009 21:22

Ok - get your ceremony and venue booked first. Are you thinking Registry Office ? or civil or church ?

Registry Office is the cheapest option. Some are nicer than others and you don't have to have it in the one nearest to you. Whereabouts are you ??

You just ring the registrar of the office you want it at and book a date and time. You then have to give notice at the register office where you live. I can give you all the info on that if that's what you're thinking of

Venue - there are lots of websites for hotels and wedding venues or it may be there is a local village hall/community centre/social club/pub function room you could hire (cheaper and much more chance of being allowed to do your own food)

Once you've got those two things booked everything else follows IYSWIM

Ebay is good place to start for dresses. this website is good as well

Mine was the red dress - not much of a theme really (it was quite christmassy and flowers/dresses/cake etc. were mainly red and silver). We had kids there (our own and other peoples). We had it in a hotel and paid one of the nursery nurses from dd's nursery to come and babysit in the hotel room during the evening/night (so we could get horribly drunk and dance like lunatics )

LoveMyGirls · 21/01/2009 08:11

Hi everyone, welcome LM, my wedding is sept too so we can hold hands

The bridesmaid dress shopping went well I think, we're having.............
this in blue
and my dd's are having these with a blue ribbon

Dp is having a change of heart over whose making the cake so we might be having to look into that soon.

Invitations are being hand made by a friend.

I need to go to the room and work out how many people we can fit in (how did you all do this? feel a bit cheeky going in and moving all the furniture while i try to work it out, how else could it be done?) so I can let my friend know how many invitations to make.

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/01/2009 08:21

Hi LMG - gorgeous dresses !! I love the adult ones - I've never been a bridesmaid and would be chuffed to bits to wear something like that . Were they from Korma's shop ?

Your venue will be able to tell you how many people the place holds (at the very least it will be able to give you the maximum because of Fire Regs etc.)

LoveMyGirls · 21/01/2009 08:33

yes got them from Korma, shes lovely (very patient)

the venue says it hols 250 but that's if all are standing, no idea how many we can comfortably get in if sitting down though

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/01/2009 08:36

Well - you could either go in and shift furniture (if they don't mind) or go and measure the room and the tables and then draw a scale plan at home - that way you can mess around with the layouts etc. and its useful when you come to do your table plan.

OhBling · 21/01/2009 09:05

Hi All! Tilly - it's just ONE month away now. Wow. I'm very excited. And not stressing about silly details. The only thing I have to sort out between now and when we leave is some stationery stuff - place settings, order of service etc. DP is organising to meet the priest as soon as we arrive so that we can then send the stationery off to be done asap. Bridesmaids have come round to their dresses having had fittings now and everyone is happy. Only small glitch is that the flower girl dresses haven't been made so we're going to have to do a last minute thing when we get there as they're more complicated than they looked!

lucysmam · 21/01/2009 14:07

LoveMyGirls, the purple dress is lovely, very very nice. Where are they from, if you don't mind me asking?

Tilly, thanks for the info, you sound very clued up as to organising a wedding!! Booking a babysitter for the evening so you can dance like lunatics is a good idea . . .MIL has planned to spend the evening with our lo & bil's so we're sorted. Anyone else who we invite kids I'm not sure what to do just yet.

A friend of mine has suggested a hall near us for both the wedding so am going to look it up later on & find out what prices are like.

What kinds of things are other people doing if no-one minds me asking? This is the first time I've properly started looking to make plans & am on the hunt for cheap and cheerful ideas

LoveMyGirls · 21/01/2009 14:27

I got them from here, the lady is lovely and also a mnetter I hope she doesn't mind me putting a link on here.

Korma - if you do mind just get my posts deleted I don't mind x

lucysmam · 21/01/2009 17:59

thanks LoveMyGirls, will have a look when the lo is tucked up and I have peace

LoveMyGirls · 05/02/2009 21:10

Having a panic........

There are two dates before my wedding that I can try my dress on, one is at the end of feb the other beg of may (when I will literally have 1 week off to try and sort as much as I can as well as catch up on paperwork etc) so I was planning on getting my underwear and shoes and tiara in the next couple of weeks and going to the shop to try it all on together only I've somehow managed to put on nearly half a stone in the past 2 weeks I just cannot get the will power together to sort it out! How can I buy underwear when I'm about a stone over what I want to be on the day!

I know the sensible thing to do is to wait until May when hopefully I'll have lost weight but it feels like a waste of a day I know i should knuckle down and sort by the end of this month!

LoveMyGirls · 10/02/2009 08:08

Panic over, I've lost a few pounds but also I cant have the day off at the end of this month anyway so looks like it will be may before I get to try my dress on again.

Hows everyone else doing?

saralou · 10/02/2009 16:46

hi ladies!!!!

quick question (it's wedding related)

when does the school year start????

my best friend's wedding at the begining of sept, am very involved and chief bridesmaid. ds1 starts school this year and not sure when the school year starts, so not sure if we can book an extra night in the hotel as anniversary present for me and dh!!!

hope your all ok... i miss planning my wedding and chatting on this thread!!!

LoveMyGirls · 10/02/2009 18:43

I think it depends on the school but somewhere between the 1st and 7th of september hth.

Might be worth ringing the school and checking?

saralou · 11/02/2009 15:20

ta LMG !

LoveMyGirls · 11/02/2009 18:53

No problem Sara

Tilly - or anyone ?

I'm trying to book my cake, don't want a shop brought one as i'd like it to be very personal so I found a lady to make it I'm just not sure about the cost tbh, how much do you think is reasonable to spend on a cake? All in all it's going to be about £300 is this the norm? Could I do anything to bring the cost down? Already planning Square (as thats the easiest shape to ice) and 1 fruit layer as fruit can be cut to smaller pieces, not having fussy decoration and I'm doing part of the decoration myself at home and my aunt will make up the fresh flowers that would be needed. Tbh I and my mum (whose paying) just don't really see where the £300 is going? I know the ingredients and time cost but I saw a thread on here with a lady doing really elaborate cakes and she wasn't charging so much.

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/02/2009 09:05

Hi LMG

I think my cake was £325 (3 tiers, 1 fruit, 1 choc sponge, 1 lemon sponge). That was with her doing all the icing, decoration etc. though. Can you try another baker and just get a quote to compare it ? It doesn't sound extortionate but I think you might be able to get it slightly cheaper iyswim

Bling - not sure if you've left for SA yet but hope you have a fabulous wedding day I know the thread has died down a bit, but please make sure you come back and show us pics

Sara - I miss wedding chats too. You're going to have to come and give us all the details about your bf's wedding
