Advice please ladies, if I may ?

Wedding if informal - no official best man/ushers etc. No speeches. However, my one brother is doing a reading, the other is operating the cd player in the ceremony. Dp's brother will be a witness. They, together with his best mate, have all agreed to help out "herding" people for photos and showing people to the ceremony room (so sort of an usher role).

The question - do we buy them "thank you" presents. DP says no - we've spent enough (not a reason in itself, but we are broke !) and there are no speeches so its not like it'll be noticeable if we don't give them something . I sort of think they're not doing that much and are happy to do it for us, but think we maybe ought to get them something (maybe a bottle of wine each or something ??) Then I think, bugger it, its a free bar all day and night and they'll be having plenty of drinks from us already ..

What do you think ?

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/11/2008 18:39

Gosh - have re-read that and it makes us both sound like miserable tight gits Give it to me straight - I can handle it !

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/11/2008 18:40

Ooh - and meant to add - our parents have done bugger all for the wedding (either practically or financially) so don't intend buying the mums something, as is traditional. Do you reckon that's ok ?? We will bring DP's mum something back from our "mini moon" as a thank you for looking after dd

MerlinsBeard · 22/11/2008 11:39

I can't help Tilly sorry!

We can't afford gifts for the mums either but last night i discovered our free gifts that came with our rings...3 silver heart necklaces!! PERFECT for my sis (bridesmaid) and the mums even though a bit small.

We will do something for our other helpers but after the wedding (so based on whether they actually help properly or not ) but we are stuck as its xmas shortly afterwards...what an annoying time of year to get married!!

Tillyscoutsmum · 22/11/2008 13:01

I know MoM - who's daft idea was it to get married at the end of November, eh ?!?

Think we're just getting his best mate a bottle of something (and his wife who is my "scary" friend who came to the dress shop with me. She's also coming over on Saturday to help get the girls ready and is driving me to the venue).

Ooooh - this time next week....................................

MerlinsBeard · 22/11/2008 15:17

oh. my. god. how cold is it out there?? Am now worried that i will FREEZE to death just going from the car to the town hall!! And the bys will only be in shirts and waistcoats

Tillyscoutsmum · 22/11/2008 20:05

I know - its bloody freezing. The girls have only got short sleeved bolero things on and my thing isn't going to much more use either. I've been looking at the 7 day weather forecast and it looks cold next week

We;ll be fine though - lots of indoor photos

MerlinsBeard · 23/11/2008 12:06

I just looked at the weather for next saturday and it looks like snow it would be so nice as DP and I are like kids when it snows, but am not liking the feeling like -4 BRRRRRRRRRR

LoveMyGirls · 23/11/2008 19:58

I really hope the weather is dry at least for you both!

Presents I say no it's fine to do without if theres no speeches and it's not a really formal affair.

The wedding photographer came round today she's lovely and her photos are fab and she's the cheapest so that's all sorted (well apart from breaking the news to my dad who wanted to do the wedding pics), I've been looking at wedding music and we've decided on a few songs so far so we're getting there

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/11/2008 20:39

LMG - thanks for your help Glad you're getting stuff sorted as well

MoM - snow would be fab We're just forecast -2 and rain . I'm beyond caring tbh - it'll be fine and we can hardly have any weather expectations getting married at the end of November can we ??

MerlinsBeard · 23/11/2008 20:47

well that is true yes!

Blinglovin · 24/11/2008 12:17

Hi all

less than a week... pretty exciting! Skin and hair look good and fresh in the cold - no unattractive sweating! It will be fantastic!

Tilly, I don't think gifts are necessary. Gifts in my opinion are for people who help out lots before the wedding more than on the day - so in my case, my bridesmaid and mum who are doing soooo much because I'm here and not there (notwithstanding previous whining about my mother which still stands! )

I think saying thank you and meaning it is more than enough in this situation.

Tillyscoutsmum · 24/11/2008 17:01

Hey Bling I am very excited ...can barely sit still. Today has dragged horribly - I have been stuck in waiting for a delivery (of something dull and none weddingy). I haven't really got any wedding stuff to do until Thursday

DD has got a cold Typically bad timing (although to fair she's pretty snotty 90% of the time in the winter). I'll just have to arm everyone with tissue so they can wipe her nose as she goes past them She seems in a pretty good mood though still

PMSL at skin and hair looking fantastic I'll get bloody wind chill. At least the guests will have somewhere to hang their coats though

Blinglovin · 24/11/2008 17:03

If I had some photos of my brother's wedding I'd send them. Lots of gorgeous shots of us all looking flushed and healthy as we dashed down snowly lanes into warm fire-heated rooms. Honestly!

Obviously though.... MOISTERISE! Obsessively.

Tillyscoutsmum · 24/11/2008 17:17

Bling - I reckon I've blown my budget on face creams for the next 5 years... I've got Guerlain Midnight secret, Clarins Morning and Night creams, plus normal moisturises. Have just ordered some smashbox foundation primer because its supposed to be great. My poor skin doesn't know what the hell is going on !! I'll probably break out in a million spots before Saturday !

Blinglovin · 24/11/2008 17:28

You're looking good. If you've got any extra cash (hahaha) and you are liking the Clarins stuff, try the moisterising face mask for the day or two before (or even see if they have a sample they can give you - you only need to apply it once off, the day before). It really does a deep moisterising job if you're feeling particularly dry. I use it occassionally when I've got an occassion and am feeling a bit parched.

jammi - I haven't told dp yet Its all just on my credit card I'm hoping I can "hide" it amongst wedding stuff/christmas pressies etc

MerlinsBeard · 25/11/2008 11:40

We got our big french fancy for our "official" cake today and in the words of DS2 "OM NOM NOM"
got most of the food, my list is indeed very small now

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/11/2008 14:11

Excellent MoM

I'm sitting here listening to dd refusing to go to sleep through the monitor. Its driving me insane. Just go to farkin sleep you little monster

Sorry - off on a tangent

Have just burnt the cd's for the ceremony music. Need to go food shopping this afternoon (people coming on Friday and Saturday for lunch and Friday night for dinner).

I've got a bit of a cold coming and have come on today as well (hence my grumpy post !). Excellent timing

Anyway..... 4 days to go !!!!!!!!!!!!

Blinglovin · 25/11/2008 15:33

Tilly, this is sooo exciting for you.

However, it occurs to me - are you going to be leaving your own thread afterwards? Please say no .

You both seem fully in control. Excellent!

MerlinsBeard · 25/11/2008 18:34

Bling, Tilly will never leave, i think she is an addict

got lots of food today, will do more tomo and the flowers if they look like they will last until w/e.

Not got ds2 after nursery, its his childminder day so will sort thru what needs sorted while he is "absent" and then erm

yeah

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/11/2008 19:51

I think you may be right MoM - I love weddings and "organising" events generally. I used to be on the social committee where I worked before having dd. My actual occupation was nothing to do with organising events, but I did used to organise nights out, christmas parties, quizzes etc. for the staff. Its the only thing I miss about being a (mainly) SAHM.

No - you definitely won't be getting rid of me that easily

Blinglovin · 26/11/2008 09:34

Phew.

MerlinsBeard · 26/11/2008 12:58

Right, food is sorted, i have a fridge rammed FULL freezer rammed full and bags dotted around and hopefully that will be enough! got some cava to drink - that will be ok won't it? (lemonade for the children)

Somehow i have to fit in a session job today before ds1 and 2 need picked up as well as let ds3 have his normal playing and sleeping and then ths evening i will start blowing up the inflatables

how you doing Tils?
