TillyScoutsmum · 06/07/2008 16:06

Hi all

Ilovemygirls - we started planning in about May this year for wedding in November. Ime - men don't tend to be too interested in the nitty gritty and find it very difficult to get excited about things until they are imminent. Personally, I don't think you need to worry about things like cake, dress, flowers etc until maybe early next year. By all means, look in magazines and get ideas but don't bother choosing anything until later. Your dp is not going to be able to talk weddings every day for 15 months. That's what we're here for

My dp is a PITA - he says he's not interested in anything and is happy to leave it to me, then when I've made a decision and just run it past him before paying deposits, he then has an opinion on it and I usually end up changing our plans

Hi Glen32 - tell us more about your day and show us pics of your dress - please

Smurfgirl - love your planning pics (another mega organised bride - you put me to shame ) Love your hair and dress - beautiful. Venue looks lovely too

Smallships - hope your heads not too bad Come and tell us how your hen went when you feel up to it. Oh - and rice pudding is my top hangover cure

LoveMyGirls · 06/07/2008 16:17

Ok i hear ya so i'll try and chill out a bit dp will be very grateful, I just want to enjoy planning and not get stressed out in the run up to the wedding day itself, ideally want it all booked and sorted a few months before the actual wedding so i've had a good rest before the day itself

I've cut ideas out of magazines and stuck them in a book so I don't forget all the cool ideas I've collected! (the book will be inches thick by the time it comes to the actual wedding I know)

I wasn't going to bother with favours because its an added cost that no-one minds missing isnt it? BUT now i've seen coloured cup cakes that you fill with sweets like dolly mixtures/ smarties/ love hearts and I thought that wouldnt be too expensive and would look nice plus give the guests something to nibble on when we first arrive, what do you all think?

TillyScoutsmum · 06/07/2008 16:52

Sounds good - stick 'em in your scrapbook Seriously, if you gather all your ideas together you'll find you'll probably change your mind a few times between now and next year. Just spend the next few months collating info and then you can shortlist your ideas for dp to ok when you come to book things next year. I promise he'll be much more interested then

Hi all!! Just been informed this thread was here! Thanks TSM! Here are a few details...I'm getting married Oct 24th 2008. Yes a friday! (to save money!) Registry office wedding. Have got all the dresses,
main pic brides dress
my 2 bridesmaids (aged 6 & 11)
my 2 flowergirls (aged 3)
Have suits, rings, shoes, photographer, reception and evening booked!! Still need to order flowers and cake. Also waistcoats for men, any ideas? Good luck to all you brides to be!!

TillyScoutsmum · 06/07/2008 20:22

Hey - you made it

I'm considering the Next dresses for my flowergirls - they're lovely and such a bargain

This is a great veil website btw - you can choose style, length, colour (including mocha or champagne) and I reckon for a shortish one, it would be under $50 (£25 ish ...)

Not sure about waistcoats - Tie Rack might be worth a look if you're buying or hire places (Formal Affair, Heaphys, Moss Bros) if you're hiring

Any ideas what sort of flowers etc. you're after ? Again - great website for flower ideas further up the thread.

Cake - we're going for M&S - taste lovely and good value.

What sort of reception etc are you having ?

Told you we were nosey

OP posts:
stretchmarkqueen · 06/07/2008 20:48

The Next dresses are lovely, but they are almost sold out. Veil website is fab!
I know what style of flowers i want, just need to find florist!
We were going to have M&S cakes, but my mum has offered to pay for one for us!!
Thanks, will try Moss Bros and Heaphys!
Great thread! Dp getting fed up with me worrying about colours/flowers/cake/dress/parents.... delete as applicable*
Just for anyone needing invites, these are great very easy to use and better than writing out 50 invites!!

TillyScoutsmum · 06/07/2008 21:24

Ooh - I like the look of those invites - are they really easy to do (even for a bit of a technophobe and totally non artistic type like me ?)

What sort of flowers are you going for ?

How about hair - any ideas for that ?

Have you chosen music ? (this is the one that everyone says no one notices, but we're all a teeny bit obsessed with - or maybe its just me )

OP posts:
stretchmarkqueen · 06/07/2008 21:50

invites are very easy, you get instructions and 2 spare inserts per pack. to put them together you get elastic string thingy's!!!?
these style flowers
my walking down the aisle music!!
my fave song in the whole wide world, for on the way out!!!

hair styles, i have no idea!!!

S1ur · 06/07/2008 22:14

Right I'm dropping in, I'm married but I am still in wedding frame of mind so thought I'd pop by.

I have a good florist if anyone is Sheffield based.

Ooh and a blardy great caterer.

S1ur · 06/07/2008 22:17

And also mate is a printer, did some very lovely invites for us - free though don't know what he'd charge others.

But in case of ideas needed - MIL painted a pic of flowers which he printed onto A4 wrap around so on front it had pic and 'An Invitation'

then inside - insets third size with details, holed punched and held together with ribbon. Can possibly post as link if wanted.

TillyScoutsmum · 06/07/2008 22:30

Hey - we have a newlywed on our thread . Hello Mrs.

Not sure if any of us are Sheffield way. Your flowers were fab though.

What music did you go for in the end for the ceremony ?

Any tips from your day ?

OP posts:
S1ur · 06/07/2008 22:52

Oh yes I am newlywed

Music, bit of trad canon d for guests to come into (reg office)

then, Teenage Kicks to strut out to Went down very well, made me and dp smile.

TIPS

erm.

If you are not having an official photographer and I don't blame you at the enormous price, then I suggest

Make a photo wishlist and duplicate and give to multiple camera wielding friends. And don't forget to gently remind said friends to keep clicking in evening too.

Hire a babysitter/nanny/childminder/trusted teenager for the evening to come along to party and hang out with dcs. Make clear she isn't soley responsible for all children present but that she is an extra pair of hands to help out where possible. Very very useful, gives guest parents a break and you too.

If partying at home or organised yourself in wherever, show someone where all extra booze/food is and charge them with ensuring nothing runs down.

GET backup batteries for everythin, bubble machines/mps players/cameras/anything - well worth it.

Can't think at moment sure there's more I could say

Printer is northampton based btw

FruitynNutty · 06/07/2008 22:59

I just can't keep up with this thread

How do you decide on a colour theme?

We were thinking today we'd quite like an enchanted forest type theme for the reception which, BTW is outside. So maybe natural colours but two weeks ago I like fuschia pink. The wedding isn't until next September so AGES to think of a colour theme but when I look at anything wedding related, I need to decide on colour so I'm assuming this is one of the 1st things to think about?

S1ur · 06/07/2008 23:16

Hello fruity I didn't have colour theme but had general theme of English garden wedding I suppose, all home made and a slightly messy and relaxed.

But I would have thought that really the style is the thing.

That's what to decide. for a while I wanted elegant and chic changed my mind.

It sounds like you want natural and organic and earthy. But would that be high elven beautiful and clear cuts and sharp sophisticaation or more nymph-like and ethereal and so more flowing curls and draping ivy?

SO from there I would think dress (and accessories) first - have you found one?
Then flowers and decor, not themed colours but themed atmosphere.

FruitynNutty · 06/07/2008 23:21

ooh even more decisions....... Ummmm, I reckon, oh I have no idea. ummmmm........both?
See, I'm going to have trouble here aren't I

FruitynNutty · 06/07/2008 23:23

I've found a beautiful dress but then again it's only one of 5 I've tried on so far. There are just too many styles to think of. Like I said, I've got a long way to go before the big day so I might like something completely different nearer the time. I'm hopeless at decision making

S1ur · 06/07/2008 23:32

Don't fret, you've not only got ages but in the end it doesn't really matter (sorry!)

In that a general feel to the venue/decor/dress/food etc is really good because done right it can subtly create atmosphere of whatever you want and make guests and yourselves go oooooh how wonderful!

But if you don't do that people still have a fantastic time and remember the speeches or the food or when uncle Alan did that stupid dance and fell over or whatever

S1ur · 06/07/2008 23:37

Tilly my lovely - you need better title for thread. something funny, go to it wannabemarrieds.

FruitynNutty · 06/07/2008 23:43
