Hello CMOC - love your proposal story and your wedding sounds like a blast - lovely and relaxed and chilled and just a great big celebration. Perfect. Hope you'll come back on and show us a few pics... Are you managing to get away for a few days for a honeymoon ?

Flamingnora - PMSL at latent bridezilla . I've had my moments as well but I think I have to do get anything done. I'm sure dp thinks there are "wedding fairies" who organise everything and he just turns up on the day looking vaguely smart and ready to get pissed

We're getting married winter this year and started booking stuff in April/May (I think). Once venue is booked and date set, there's no rush for anything else (although good photographers get booked up quickly but its often easier to get suppliers for winter weddings).

Oh - and I bet your proposal wasn't as unromantic as mine

T42 - any more pics yet ?

Foxy - ??? are you around ?

Hi I'm back, things have been manic this week, had a visit from OFSTED today so been busy double checking everything is where it should be etc then she came and didn't even look round the house, oh well at least it's all clean and tidy so I can have a rest over the weekend! (little tip for the holidays.....make purple playdough with lavender oil, it's kept them all busy for hours and it's calming so even when they're not playing with it they are being good, wish I'd made it at the start of the week!)

Right wedding talk......I've booked to go to a bridal place at the end of aug when the holidays will be almost over until then it's pretty manic here, have asked my mum if she fancies coming with me to look at cakes tomorrow but other than that it's on the back burner for a bit now.

What are you all doing, I want to read more about your plans!

callmeovercautious · 25/07/2008 19:59

Today I confirmed DJ and caterers, numbers are 50% higher than I thought. I underestimated how many friends would want to come on a Friday Luckily we still have some Budget to cope with it.

Tomorrow I have to pick up new glasses, gifts for my Girly friends who are throwing me a Hen Do, go to Hairdressers for a cut and blowdry and get drunk on a boat in the afternoon

Next week I have to check Flowers and Ballon decorations lady, buy table covers for the reception hall, keep trying to get DD to keep her shoes on and hair band in . Pick up my shoes and wear them a bit. Go to Beauty salon, buy stockings and clear bra straps..... ummm ...... get Married

Hope everyone else is doing well. Lovemygirls - I hope the OFSTED report comes back glowing Lavender playdough sounds great, how much oil?

LoveMyGirls · 25/07/2008 20:36

CMOV - it wasn't an inspection (though i wish it was because it would take the stress off me next year because my actual inspection is due about 2 weeks after our wedding!) It was only to see if I can get a variation, I'll find out next week! I used quite a few drops, I kept going until dc's said stop, they wanted it to smell nice!

TillyScoutsmum · 26/07/2008 10:18

Hi all

Hope you enjoy your hen do CMOC. Sounds like you've got a busy, but lovely week ahead of you

Good to see you back LMG and glad OFSTED visit went well - bad timing for the inspection next year though

Not been doing much wedding stuff - been a bit too much month left after pay day to spend any money atm I am thinking of a Candy Bar though and have been looking into that. Think it would look lovely and we're not having favours of anything. What do you all think ? Waste of time and money or good idea. pics of the sort of thing here

Anyway, I'm off away for a few days from tomorrow so will speak to you all soon.

CMOC - have a fantastic wedding day. Hope this gorgeous weather holds out for you and come back and tell us all about it (and show us pics if you don't mind - hopefully with dd complete with headband and shoes )

Babyinacorner - can you come back and share with us soon. Pleeeaaase

It's my own fault I knew OFSTED would be coming around October 2009 but I still went ahead and booked my wedding for september (dp wanted may 2010 but I wanted us to get married 2009 but may 2009 wouldn't have been enough time to save to pay for it and september I thought the honeymoon would be cheaper, didn't want a winter wedding, thought the weather would more than likely be warm still in sept so there we are ) I'm getting a cleaner in while we're on our honeymoon so at least the house will be in a clean/ tidy state and my paperwork is done regularly and safety catches/ gates etc are all in place anyway so should be fine

LoveMyGirls · 26/07/2008 15:22

CMOC - I saw some plastic table cloths in asda today for £1 (pink or blue) I was tempted to buy them for mine as we're having a blue theme but I'm a bit skint at the moment and as my wedding is next sept I've got ages and ages to worry about things like that so I didn't bother.

callmeovercautious · 27/07/2008 23:37

Hello Ladies

The Hen Do was great Just the sort of thing I wanted. The friends who organised it were great, as I am not having a Maid of honour I kind of dumped it a friend and she did me proud! Luckily I did not get too drunk last night so DP, DD and I enjoyed a lovely relaxing day in the garden today, DD has discovered the joy of paddling pools

Thanks for the tip on table cloths. I know what I am getting I just need to get my backside into town to pick it all up.

Keep an eye out for my last minute panics! Thanks for all the good wishes, I hope everyone elses plans are going well.

stretchmarkqueen · 29/07/2008 14:32

Yipeee! Just sorted out my flowers now!! Lady came round and I gave her a picture of the ones I liked and she quoted me £40 for them!! Bargain!! Bridesmaid posy is £17 and I'm having a wrist corsage for my 3 flowergirls as when DD1 was last a bridesmaid, they all had fights with the posies!! Buttonholes are £2.50 each.

Soo excited now. My facebook page says I have 87 days until my wedding!! .

Hope you all you ladies are doing ok!!

lovelygal · 30/07/2008 15:38

What a fantastic thread - although not a lot of posts lately, hope I haven't joined too late.
I'm getting married over a year away, haven't picked a dress yet but I know it will be white and simple, not fussy.

I've been thinking about headwear as I have short bob lenght hair and I'm going to grow it, I'm not really sure what to wear in my hair - any ideas anyone?

teafortwo · 30/07/2008 19:04

Hello lovelygal - the thing is the Queen of this thread called Tillyscoutmum is on her holidays so it has slowed down a bit.

She is sort of like a wedding guru and fairy in one - she has loads of ideas - when she is back she will really love having a super wedding chat with you!!! I just know it!!! Put this thread in your 'watch' box and enjoy!

Welcome lovelygal!! Hope you like it here! It's never too early to plan your wedding

I have to decide whether or not to have our wedding bands engraved?? Is this tacky?? You are all so much more knowledgeable than me Just having plain wedding bands.

Glad your hen night was good CMOC!

hughjarssss · 30/07/2008 19:22

ooohh Stretchmark queen, good question - is it tacky?? I was wondering the same when I was discussing rings with dp

I was thinking about a headband but hate having my hair off my face Korma

stretchmarkqueen · 30/07/2008 19:37

I'm sorry, but your name makes me rofl!!

My mum suggested having the date of the wedding engraved inside?? I think this is less tacky??

(Don't want to offend anyone though!)

hughjarssss · 30/07/2008 21:11

I was thinking about having it inside as well stretchmark.

I'm a nosey lurker on this thread and have been for ages but have just started posting on MN so I'd thought I'd join in!

Esp. as both you and lovelygal are asking questions I need help with!

I'm getting married in my local registry office in October and really need to start making descions!

teafortwo · 30/07/2008 21:12

If something is meaningful to you then it will never be tacky - do it if you want to do it - it is your life, your wedding - live it, love it, enjoy it!

flamingnora · 31/07/2008 22:34

Hi All! We're now finally motoring on choosing venues (or ruling venues out, at least!). If anyone has any idea of venues in London that are not hideously expensive that have enough room for a ceilidh I would be eternally grateful!

teafortwo · 31/07/2008 23:26

Hi Flamingnora!

Everyone has their own tastes and ideas on what a wedding should be. Me, I would thoroughly recommend Westminster Registrar office/ Marylebone Town Hall (I got married there about a month ago). They have three different sized rooms and cater for just about anything you want (within reason!).

BUT I understand if you think it isn't quite your thing! What venues have you liked so far on your search?

callmeovercautious · 31/07/2008 23:35

Hello all you new ladies

You may be able to help calm me..... I have 14.5 hours until I get Married and I am soooo scared now! Not of Marrying DP but about the organisation of the day.

It is small but still alot of work, the florist tried to charge me again today when I paid in full 2 months ago then the caterers are still being far too relaxed for my liking. Also DPs Dad just ate Curry and I KNOW he will have a dodgy tummy tomorrow as he always does [argghhhhhhhh]

To top it all the perfect handbag does not match DDs dress as I thought it did so now I have to buy one tomorrow morning on my way back from the hairdressers [panic, panic]

On the plus side the puffy eyes I had this morning from a dodgy eyebrow wax yesterday seem to have calmed down a bit. Dp very kindly said I no longer looked like I have mixymatosis

stretchmarkqueen · 01/08/2008 08:32

Aaargh, sorry just saw this!! Hope you are ok? I'm sure everything will be just fine. Just keep in mind the reason for this day. To get married to your wonderful dp!! Try and laugh off anything that doesn't go quite to plan. After all it's just "stuff"!!!

I'm sure you'll look beautiful, and have a great day!! And most importantly....Don't forget the profile pics for us to be nosy see!!!

Good luck !!!

stretchmarkqueen · 01/08/2008 08:33

Why doesn't my strike out work????

TillyScoutsmum · 01/08/2008 10:11

Hey all - I'm back and we've got newbies - hoorah

Right - first off - SMQ - strike out needs to have the after each word (not the whole phrase) so before and after strike, then -- before and after work...

CMOC - have a fantastic day.. These little things going wrong are just sent to try us... none of it will matter and you'll just enjoy every moment. It'll be fine. Can't wait to hear all about it and see pics

Big hello to lovelygal, korma and hugh - tell us all about your plans so far. Any pics of dresses etc ? Can we "help" find them if not (I love looking for dresses).

FWIW, I don't think having engraving on the inside is tacky - at least dp will never have an excuse for forgetting anniversaries

My hair is bobbed as well and I'm thinking of either having it back off my face and curled like this or just sort of like a 1940/50's wave like this. Either way, I'm thinking of having a crystal clip in like this.

Sorry Nora - I don't really know much about London venues but often the hotel chains are good value and have flexible venues - maybe have a look for Ramada Jarvis, Barcelo hotels, Marriott, Hilton, Radisson etc. to see if they have anything to suit

T42 - PMSL at wedding guru/fairy . Have you had your last party yet with work colleagues ?

I'm still struggling to find a florist - still waiting for a quote from the one I went to see 6 weeks ago Have spoken to her a couple of times and she's promised to get it to me "by the end of the week" for the last 3 weeks. Have been trying to make an appointment to see another one and have left 2 messages and an email over the last 2 weeks and she still hasn't got back to me. How difficult can it be ?!?

OP posts:
flamingnora · 01/08/2008 19:05

Hi All - think the issue we have is that we want a ceilidh which means we need to have a big room available for dancing. There's a pub in Greenwich that looks as though it might fit the bill - and we can get married there as well as have the reception.
T42 - thanks for your recommendation! I have also heard good things about Marylebone Town Hall - where did you have your reception after the "I Dos"?!

SmallShips · 01/08/2008 21:08

hope you're all having fun planning your weddings, i've not been on here, due to post wedding blues. I was contemplating an annulment, so i can do it all again!!
