Foxymolly · 10/07/2008 13:37

I really like this one you showed me Tilly

T42 - I love the idea of a casual summer dress but I want to look the best I can and I think a boned dress is the best option.
And there is a list the upcoming weddings at the top of the page you doughnut!

Will I need one them hooped things with this dress Tilly?
Also what shall I do about size, I think its best to order to my measurements as I am now and then get a dressmaker to sort it out if when I lose weight!

Tilly, if you was after a short term weight loss fix which would you do, Cambridge or slim fast?

T42 - you haven't given us a funny story for a while, I need your comical stories to get me through his dress business, and poor Tilly would probably do with some light relief after everything I'm putting her through.

Keeping fingers crossed for good weather SS and BIAC!

TillyScoutsmum · 10/07/2008 13:44

Foxy - I think that one is gorgeous and would be very flattering because of the ruching and wrap effect. Its similar to what I wore at my first wedding. You would need a crinoline petticoat.

Do your measurements (probably need someone else to help you) - there's a guide on the site telling you how to measure properly. Its a corset back so can be tied looser/tighter to accommodate one size. If you're between two sizes, go for the smaller one because generally, they look better pulled in tighter (within reason - back fat overhang is not a good look though ). You don't need to worry too much about hip measurement because its a big skirt (so if you're hips are bigger and taking it up to a different size, pick the size that is best for boobs, waist etc.)

Short term weight loss I would do the Cambridge diet. Remember though you have to really strict so choose a time when you're not going out for meals/drinks or anything (so probably not too close to the wedding). I reckon 5-6 weeks of the Cambridge with some exercise, you could drop 2-3 dress sizes easily. It can also make you look a bit drained/rundown etc (my skin was awful for the first couple of weeks), so stop doing it at least 2 weeks before the wedding and then maybe switch to Slimfast or just eat healthily. Some of it may go back on but hopefully not too much

OP posts:
Foxymolly · 10/07/2008 13:49

Thanks Tilly, where can I buy the cambridge diet things? I've seen slimfast and ww in the supermarkets but not cambridge.

I'm now watching that dress on my ebay account, have to talk to dp about changing the theme of the wedding but I'm sure he wont mind, then I can place a bid!

TillyScoutsmum · 10/07/2008 13:55

Unfortunately, you have to get it via your counsellor (they have sole selling rights). You can find your local one and email them here. You'll need a dr's note to confirm there are no health reasons why you can't do it, but get in contact with the counsellor and they'll help you out

If that's too much hassle, try Slimfast for a couple of weeks and see how you go with that ? I've got some weightwatchers recipes that I use for the evening meal, if you need any inspiration

How exciting re: the dress Will you go for a coloured dress or a white/ivory one ? Need to choose material as well. Again, you can email the seller if you have any queries, they are apparently quite helpful

OP posts:
Foxymolly · 10/07/2008 14:08

Probably Ivory, not confident about ordering a coloured one beacause I haven't actually seen the colour in RL.

I have no idea about materials, how am I going to choose?

Think I'll give slimfast a go, weightwatcher recipes would be really helpful. At the moment I'm buying the ww meals, they're a lot better than I thought they would be.

Foxymolly · 10/07/2008 14:10

I forgot to say ealier, Well done Tilly on losing all that weight, you must feel so much better. Its a big difference to go from an 18 to a 14. I'm sure you'll make it to a 12

TillyScoutsmum · 10/07/2008 14:15

Material - I'd go for something heavier - I know we said "floaty" before, but not sure it would work with that dress because its quite structured.... A matte satin or a slik dupion

Will dig out some ww recipes - what sort of stuff do you like/not like ?

Thanks re; weight loss. I do feel better but still not that happy with myself. I think its often a state of mind and I've always been self critical. We both need to work on our self confidence - someone's willing to marry us - so we can't be that bad.. Right ?

OP posts:
Foxymolly · 10/07/2008 14:28

True Tilly!

I've never been happy, I'm hoping that if I can get to a 12/14 I wont feel fat like I did when I was that size before. I'm hoping that being this big will make me realise that I look ok at when I'm a 12/14 IKWIM.

So when I have to choose material I'll just write silk dupion and hope for the best as I have no idea what that is!

Any recipes will be fine, I'm not really a fussy eater, which is probably how I ended up this size in the first place!

TillyScoutsmum · 10/07/2008 14:39

To give you an idea (hard to see on internet though) these are silk dupion

these are satin

The self esteem issue is rubbish. I lose weight and then in my head, I look fabulous and look in the mirror and hope to see Claudia Schiffer looking back at me but its still me. A slightly slimmer me, but still me. I think I need a head transplant

God - this is all a bit deep. Gotta go out to music class now, but will post some recipes later

Hello all,

If you want a weddingy wedding dress Foxy why don't you book an appointment at your most local non scary wedding shop to try some on? Take your best friend and have a big girly day!!!

My sister who is getting married in April, and had two crazy days trying on dresses in loads of shops with my Mum, tells me the ladies in the shop are brilliant at identifying in a Trinny and Suzannah, but much kinder, way what shape, colours and fabric will suit your body and character and your choice of wedding.

!!!!GO FOR IT!!!! - Enjoy!!!

TillyScoutsmum · 10/07/2008 19:50

BIAC and SS - hope you're not too stressed out and have had time to relax today. I hope you both have fabulous days tomorrow.

Come back soon and tell all.

Have fun

TSM - I love your rant on self-esteem issues... I often wonder how we, arguably the most educated and worldly generation of Mums in Europe yet, have all (including myself) entered womanhood hating our bodies as much as we do.

The rational side of us says - "my body works, I don't look too bad, my body has produced my beautiful child or children etc etc..."

yet, there is this crazy side of us saying to ourselves things like "Your too fat/you have bad skin/your hair isn't right/your ears stick out/your bum is too big." And this intelligent, interesting and interested other side of us that is supposed to be rational instead of saying "Don't be a fool. You are great!" caves in and actually says "Yes, yes... you are right - I am a mess."

Strange hey?

TillyScoutsmum · 10/07/2008 20:53

It is strange T42 - I've never felt massively attractive - yet, I look at photos of myself now in my mid-late 20's and I was, quite frankly, bloody gorgeous (possibly a slight exaggeration but I was certainly much better looking than I ever felt)

I actually had an eating disorder when I was younger - I weighed 4 stone when I was 12 (was admitted to hospital, on a drip etc.). I started to real enjoy food and have a "healthy" relationship with it when I got to my 20's - but the old hang ups are still there

I blame my mother - she's spent so many years telling me how she was much slimmer than me at my age. She patted my stomach the day after giving birth and asked whether "there was still one in there" . She apparently was back in her size 10 jeans the day after having me. She was however 19. I was 32

I do have my moments of looking in the mirror and feeling reasonably satisfied - but its usually when I'm drunk

Lots of champagne pre wedding for me then !

OP posts:
Foxymolly · 10/07/2008 22:39

I've placed a bid on the dress - fingers crossed!
Quite nervous as I normally spend ages planning these things and I've just kinda jumped in with this one - I'm sure it'll be fine

dp wants to know what he's wearing and I have no idea now, told him I've enough dilemmas with clothes without him adding to them.

All the best to SS and BIAC!

SmallShips · 11/07/2008 01:24

Im getting married today!! Am nervous now, off too sleep !! ARGH!!

teafortwo · 11/07/2008 08:42

!!!!!!!!!!Good luck todays brides!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a funny story for you Foxy...

Early evening, of my wedding day, I was walking my friend to the station.

Two cheeky chappies were walking towards us. "'xcuse me..." One of them asked... "Can I ask you a question." "Yes." We answered. He stepped forward, smiled and asked "Are you two single?" "No!" We chuckled in surprise! As we both really thought they were going to ask directions!

As we walked away my friend and my laughter grew. "Imagine..." she giggled "if I'd of said well actually t42 got married today? They wouldn't believe me and think it was just a big nasty put down lie!!!"

teafortwo · 11/07/2008 08:54

TSM - I hear you loud and clear!!!! For me self esteem issues didn't pop out in the nasty A, but instead, panic attacks at 12.

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!! TSM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am impressed at you doing the big wedding thang!!!! It really shows how much you have grown in confidence and how comfortable you feel in your own skin!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!Congratulations you!!!!!!!!!!!!

ppie · 11/07/2008 10:25

Morning. im getting married 4-10-08 on a bit of a budget. All going to plan and have today got my lovely designer Pierce II Fionda dress from ebay £40. A great bargain. Only thing its got a few make up marks on it, foundation i think. the Dry cleaners quoted £80!!! Has anybody tried cleaning these themselfs. Its just ive put stuff to dry cleaners b4 and as good as results in the washing machine. ( obviosly i wouldnt use machine! was thinhking stain devil or similar Any suggestions thanks

TillyScoutsmum · 11/07/2008 10:57

Hello ppie - congrats on your wedding. Give us some more details and a pic of your dress (we're nosey sods )

Not sure about stain removal tbh. What material is your dress ? You could try a little bit somewhere it couldn't be seen first and make sure it doesn't cause any damage. Maybe try a post in Good Housekeeping (or whatever its called - don't venture there much - I'm a self confessed slattern ). I'm sure someone might have some less chemical remedies for make removal which might be less risky. Have you tried baby wipes ? They're used for everything around here

Foxy - how exciting putting a bid on your dress When's the closing time ? Let us know how you get on.

I'm in the same boat re: dp's clothes. When we were going all casual and informal, he was looking forward to wearing jeans a nice shirt but I think that would look a bit odd with my dress ? Think he'll end up wearing a suit and shirt (not sure I'll get a tie out of him though)

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 11/07/2008 10:58

Menat to say Lovemygirls - hope you have a fab day dress shopping tomorrow. Its great fun. Let us know how you get on

OP posts:

T42 - Fancy getting chatted up on your wedding day!

It ends on the 13th Tilly.

ppie - I'm also doing it on a budget, your dress was a fantastic bargin!

Wonder if SS or BIAC are married yet?!

LoveMyGirls · 11/07/2008 12:14

Thanks TSM

SS & BIAC - I hope you're both having the best day of your lives!

I hear ya about the weight thing etc, I started losing weight with weight watchers in January (had a feeling dp was going to propse this year at some point) and I've gone from a size 16-18 to a size 10-12 and I'm so much happier but still have the odd hang up, need to spend the next year concentrating on toning it all now!
