Well, I just think, if they are really getting somewhere, they will still ask for the potty even if they are wearing a nappy, and if they are not really getting somewhere, then taking them out somewhere in pants would turn into a nightmare.

But you are probably right about it being confusing. I broke every rule in the book potty training mine.

MaryP0p1 · 08/08/2005 21:28

Maybe it works for other people but for me all or nothing. Consistency I think is the key

loupylou · 08/08/2005 21:31

We just do toilet trips before setting out, if out for a long time and as soon as get back. Do you find nappies are still dry when out? If so, no doubt they'd be ok without. I pack i pair knickers, one pair trousers, so doesn't take up that much space

Hey, GDG, get one of these for him!

Bet Coddy's already got one

Lonelymum · 08/08/2005 21:33

Well, I am talking about some time ago.....My current potty trainee has only had one day of it and failed miserably!!

But yes, I think nappies generally stayed dry for trips out, but it just saved me the anxiety of waiting for an accident. Mine all traqined quite quickly so it isn't many trips I am talking about.

Gobbledigook · 08/08/2005 21:33

NO WAY!!

Just realised though - got no bribes in - need choccie buttons! Animal biscuits or custard creams will have to do

Lonelymum · 08/08/2005 21:34

HM What a lot there is for rich people to spend their money on!

hunkermunker · 08/08/2005 21:35

LM, you're not wrong.

This one's a fecking throne! Talk about pandering to the little blighters!

flashingnose · 08/08/2005 21:37

Have hopefully just trained dd2 (third and last) .

Agree with all coddy's tips plus star chart worked well this time round. GDG do it now - you'll be kicking yourself come September...

hunkermunker · 08/08/2005 21:38

And there's more

Cod, am I helping?

Gobbledigook · 08/08/2005 21:38

at the throne! I bet the Beckham boys have one!

SoupDragon · 08/08/2005 21:39

I find the idea of bribing a child to use the toilet by offering food rather icky.

Gobbledigook · 08/08/2005 21:40

Eh? It worked for me - 3 days I tell you, 3 DAYS!!! It's amazing what a child will do for a chocolate button!

hunkermunker · 08/08/2005 21:40

No, GDG, I bet the Beckham boys have one of these!

Gobbledigook · 08/08/2005 21:41

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

flashingnose · 08/08/2005 21:41

Nothing wrong with bribery SD if it works.

sunchowder · 08/08/2005 21:50

My DD was naked for two weeks and I pushed the potty around where ever she went. I realize this is not "conventional", but it did save an enormous amount of laundry and is was very easy to tell when she was urinating!

jayzmummy · 08/08/2005 21:55

I nannied a little girl who's parents used sweets to tain her to use the toilet.....slightly embarrasing when we were in a public toilet and she was screaming out loud that she wanted two "chewit"!

Soupy, does it make you feel better if I tell you that the bribe is Haribo in this house - definitely not food by any conventional definition.

But yes, the thought of say a bran muffin being a suitable bribe for toilet training does seem slightly perverse.

flashingnose · 08/08/2005 22:56

Lol at bran muffin!

Janh · 08/08/2005 22:59

I didn't train DS2 until he was 3.3

(To make GDG feel better!)

Well, it was winter and then we went on holiday and it was all too much faff...

Have fun, Mrs Cod and fishboy

Janh · 08/08/2005 23:00

sunny, easy to tell you don't live in Lancashire!

CountessDracula · 08/08/2005 23:02

Cod she won't even wee in one

Has never ever done a wee or a poo in anything but nappy, othe than the odd one when naked. She can, however, tell me that she needs a wee when naked, but then she holds it back if I put her on the potty little minx

flashingnose · 08/08/2005 23:04

Would she go straight to the loo, do you think? None of mine have liked the potty.
