Not to be outdone by you guys, the minute I got back from my travels, I whipped off ds3's nappy and said right time to sit on the potty. It is amazing the power of knowing some complete strangers dotted around the country are doing the same thing today, and me not wanting to be left behind! Anyway, ds2 greeted this news with.........a poo?..............a wee?..............no, a tantrum! Still, he stayed nappyless for an hour or more, ate lunch and played in garden (bare bottomed throughout) with no apparent accidents. No success in potty either. He is now back in a nappy for his nap. Not going that well here..........

Going pear shaped here.

After lunch Ds wet his pants and then did a poo in them and then wet them again a tiny bit, followed by a big wee on the toilet.

sunchowder · 09/08/2005 15:05

My DD used to love to stand/squat to do a poo in her diaper also, this was for several months after we got the peeing accomplished. She would go get a diaper and tell me she had to go. I also kept her in diapers to sleep in at night until she was at least 3, until she woke up in them dry for two weeks. I found the pull-ups to be too expensive, as she was never a good sleeper, I certainly didn't want her worrying about peeing in the night and having to get up out of bed.

Anyway, we never really got down to why she didn't want to poo in the pottyI don't know if it was the sound it made or what. I just allowed her to poo in the diaper, telling her what a good job she was doing, then asking if she wanted to try it on the potty like Mommie doeseventually she did, it did take her a few months though!

eh-up-me-duck.

Sounds like potty training is going well. Have been toying with starting dd with night training

loupylou · 09/08/2005 17:31

We've had a second dry all day at nursery, hooray. Done the poo on the toilet with a wee on return home too!! The test comes tomorrow, a journey longer than normal and a day out with animals and things to distract. OH no, i'll pack plenty of spares just in case!

nutcracker · 09/08/2005 17:33

Ok am sick of the sight of the downstairs loo now already

Ds is asking to go when he needs to go but is doing a dribble before hand so I have piles of pants in the wash.

  • they can't get out from under the laundry to answer!!!!
Gobbledigook · 09/08/2005 21:08

Couldn't do it to Jools Cod -will have to be next week!

Lonelymum · 09/08/2005 21:11

Ds3 did absolutely nothing whatsoever in the potty - actually I only found one wet patch on the patio so I don't know what happened to all the other wees! - but by the end of the day, he was voluntarily sitting on the potty (for about ten seconds a time) so that is better than in the morning when the mention of the potty brought on a tantrum, isn't it?

Oh we started today Cod, really not sure it's gonna work but what the hell. The fact she can't really talk, can't walk, can't get on the potty on her own doesn't help, but have to start getting her thinkiong about it I suppose so hopefully this time in year 2007 we might have some success! Good luck to you with yours.

Lonelymum · 09/08/2005 21:14

Cod, are you sure any child aged 2-3 is ready for it?!

sunchowder · 09/08/2005 21:21

Yes they are ready LonelyMum! But it needs to be "fun" or not a big deal--certainly nothing they will feel they are failing at. No yelling or being upset, just learning something new.

Lonelymum · 09/08/2005 21:36

I think I was too laid back today. Ds3 ran around all the time with a bare bottom in the garden. We even ate meals in the garden as my kitchen has a carpet on the floor (I know, not my choice either!) I don't think he learnt very much today and I have no idea how many wees he did. Presumably there are no poos lurking in the grass....

The only reason kids over 2 years old can't do it ime, is because they can't be arsed, not me.

With some kids it takes a while (like 2 years) for them to realise that actually it's nicer to keep their pants dry.

nutcracker · 09/08/2005 22:40

Ds did really well I think. He had about 3 accidents but loads of wees on the loo too.

hunkermunker · 09/08/2005 22:41

Cannot imagine being arsed to potty train DS before he's totally ready. Maybe just before secondary school? Is that a bit late?

robinia · 09/08/2005 22:55

Sounds good to me hm - wish I'd waited till then with mine

hunkermunker · 09/08/2005 23:00

LOL! The two things that filled me with dread before I had children was thinking of something for them to eat every single mealtime for years on end and mopping up puddles when potty training!
