Just wondered how everyone's getting on, having actually produced?

I'm absolutely knackered, and have very nasty tear which is giving me grief (I ripped into the muscle a bit) but am in much MUCH better shape than with dd2 - and dd1 is thoroughly enthusiastic. Mind you, dd2 is still asleep most of the time. I'm aware that the next few weeks and months are going to be, ahem, not the easiest, which is why I thought it might be worth keeping in touch...?

DS is nearly 11 weeks old, but he still needs his 4am feed, I wonder if it is really true that he will sleep through the night in a week time!
However he slept from 8PM to 4AM last night and that gave me time to catch up on sleep too.

Started ww last Monday, so feeling a bit grumpy as I am missing my ice cream fix, I have my weigh in next Tuesday and I am dreading the bank hol with all the bbqs we have planned.

DS is holding his head since he was 2 weeks old, he really goes for the mobile and he's constantly punching and kicking, sometimes I wonder if he's hyperactive as I don't have previous baby to compare him with. When asked mw, she said smiling to wait until he can walk, then I will have a reason to complain! I still drink coffee in the morning, so I wonder if the espresso has this effect on him?

happyspider · 22/08/2003 19:58

Kaz, yep, it's Irish:
NIAMH Irish, Irish Mythology
Means "bright" in Irish. She was the daughter of the sea god in Irish legends. She fell in love with the poet Oisin, son of Fionn

motherinferior · 22/08/2003 20:24

Dahlia, don't worry; dd2 is holding her head up quite a bit but dd1 took absolutely AGES to do any of the big motor things - from rolling over onwards; she wasn't crawling when some other kids were walking. Chill if you can - although I completely understand the worry!

Haircut tomorrow. And eyelash tint. Wow, leaving dd2 with daddy/sister/granny and expressed bottle - WOW. Do you think they can do anything for the look of total exhaustion?

Ooooooh, a pampering session. Enjoy, Motherinferior!!
Happyspider, have you done ww before? I did it before I got pregnant and loved it - have started it again now and have lost a stone in 6 weeks, which might sound good, but I still have 2 stone to go so its a bit daunting. Good luck with the weigh in!

kaz33 · 23/08/2003 16:32

DS2 got a tempertaure after his injection and it took 4 doses of Calpol to get it down. Today he is a lot better, still slight temperature but he had a dose of Calpol and a long sleep.

Sorry Happyspider - I predicted sleep through at 12 weeks and DS2 is now 12 weeks and 1 day and not looking like it at all. Though I blame his cold which has affected his feeding.

DP just got back from Paris, huge relief to have some night time support as I am definitely suffering from sleep deprivation.

Pamper session sounds great - I had a shopping trip a couple of weeks ago and managed to enjoy it by NOT trying anything that went on the bottom half of my body. Thank god for shoes !

kaz33 · 23/08/2003 16:36

Not sure if I like Niamh - it reminds me of Ballykissangel - ah well no doubt it will grow on me !

DS2 literally came out and promtly tried to hold his head up- he now has very good head control and reaching for the toys on his baby gym.

Dahlia · 24/08/2003 12:39

I like that idea of not trying stuff on the lower half of the body!! Unfortunately though, I need to start looking for an outfit soon to wear for dd2's christening which is at the end of September. I was probably being a bit over optimistic when I booked the date, thinking that I would be thin and gorgeous by then. Ah well.

motherinferior · 24/08/2003 18:22

Think gorgeous and curvaceous?

Just come back from party where dd2 pooed volcanically, all over me. Audible bubbles. Luckily was chatting to parents of three month old at the time, who were deeply sympathetic (and I handed her pronto to dp!).

Haircut was a definitely good idea - although I suspect I'm so knackered I'm tending towards the gnome than the pixie. I suppose she did actually kip for nearly 7 hours last night, but I fed her (she didn't wake up) at about 10.30. I'm sorry I'm so boring about the sleep. Dammit, I bore myself!

Dahlia, I have two stones to lose too, but I find that if find something that fits well in my new size and have make up and hair done professionally, I feel and look (I think...) a lot better. Oh, and if you can get a fake tan, that will make you look at least half a stone lighter instantly.

happyspider · 24/08/2003 21:50

kaz33, it's so much better now anyway than it was at the beginning!
He's sleeping 8 hours per night, which is great.

They must sleep through the night at a certain point, otherwise I guess you wouldn't have considered having another baby?

Talking of which, I am getting broody again, but got to wait a full year before I can conceive!

kaz33 · 24/08/2003 22:48

Gosh Happyspider - I seem to remember DS1 sleeping through to about 5am some time about now ( 3 months).

I also felt broody about now last time and look where that got me... So i look forward to seeing your second birth announcement in about 20 months time.

DS2 is a lot better today - the fever seems to have burnt his cold out, so look for that sleep through soon...

We put DS2 cot up today - its great its on wheels so can be wheeled to which ever room looks like being the quietest for naps. DS1 promptly got into it with DS1 and demanded to sleep in it - DS2 looked adoringly at his big bro and cooed.

Lastly, just been on the net buying baby equipment, booster seat, Graco citisport to replace our old knackered Maclaren and buggyboard. Yes, I found yet more things to spend money on - am selling old pram for £50 so not quite as bad as it sounds.

Not even thinking about weight at the moment, survival not appearance not top on my list.

Lastly, where is everyone based - I know Motherinferior is based in South London but what about the rest of you??

kaz33 · 24/08/2003 22:50

You can tell I have been drinking - lots of that message made no sense at all. Ah, well you can probably decipher it,.

motherinferior · 25/08/2003 13:24

Made sense to me. I think. Mind you have just recovered from first ever solo drive (to friend very near here) with large glass of red...

Regret to report my angel is still doing magnificently if we get six hours together (and they aren't always the six hours we'd like IYKWIM). Oh well, soddit, things have to get better.

HS, keep that broodiness in check! If you don't mind me asking (and do tell me to sod off if you want to) why will you need to wait a year?

OP posts:
happyspider · 25/08/2003 18:24

had a c section, so I have been advised to wait a year before considering new pregnancy...

as for your article, my idea for the section on bfeeding was that it's true that breast is best, however don't feel too guilty or a lesser mother if you don't manage to do it for any reason.

I did not have much milk to start with and was made to feel incompetent and a bad mother because I was giving him a bottle in public.

happyspider · 25/08/2003 18:29

kaz33, I am in South London too, South of the river

Dahlia · 26/08/2003 15:10

I am in Manchester - well Cheshire actually but we are 10 mins from Manchester city centre.
I have a job interview on Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its part time at David Lloyd Health Club - have just discovered that I look quite reasonable in a black jacket and (elasticated waist) black trousers, so what with new hairdo and you-can't-hurt-me-I'm-a-Mother-Of-Two attitude, I can't go wrong. Fingers crossed everyone! And thank the lord for elastic.

kaz33 · 26/08/2003 15:20

Good luck Dahlia. Very brave going for a job interview at a healthclub so soon after babys arrival.

happyspider · 26/08/2003 18:49

Good luck Dahlia, if you think of it, if you do get the job is free membership at a superb club and motivation to get fit again!
You won't have any excuse then saying you can't go down the gym

motherinferior · 27/08/2003 11:21

Wow. V impressed. Ogle the lycra-clad bodies for me

OP posts:
Dahlia · 28/08/2003 17:46

It was a total waste of time! They obviously hadn't even read my letter properly as they offered me shifts that change practically daily. I frostily replied that that was little use to me as I have two children to arrange care for. Dozy or what? Never mind, I went straight to baby clinic afterwards and dd2 has finally got over 10 lbs which was far more exciting! (She is a tiny little thing).

motherinferior · 28/08/2003 18:40

Oh honey, what a waste of time. Sounds like you handled it brilliantly, though.

I'm daringly trying cutting out the night feeds, ie the small hours of the morning one/s - she seems to take a dummy and crash out again. Still means we have to get up though, but DOES hold out hope for the future. Got seven hours between feeds last night - bosoms were nearly bursting when she finally latched on!

Also, despite being almost on the edge of tears with exhaustion, I have realised that everything is getting easier - glanced at the 'August babies' thread and realised how far beyond that we all now are...not to speak of the 'babies due in August' one!

OP posts:
Dahlia · 28/08/2003 20:10

Hi Mother i - have just read the August babies thread and had a little chuckle - mind you, they all sound remarkably calm, don't they? Not like us basket heads!! Well done on your 7 hours! And talking of dummies, I got sent an email the other week from a friend, it was pictures of dummies (American I presume) and they were shaped like huge goofy teeth and such like, made the babies look hysterically funny, I nearly wet myself laughing. Which is not hard at the moment.

kaz33 · 28/08/2003 21:46

Dahlia - bad luck on the job front, something else will come up.

Things are definitely settling down in the Kaz household - not sleeping through but DS2 is just so gorgeous and DS1 is behaving a lot better. DP about to jet off for two weeks on work, leaving on Sunday morning - so tough time ahead, but I have a combo of help and family. Still hard work and very lonely.

See what you mean about the August babies thread - they do sound very calm though - as I recall we started off calm...

Dahlia · 28/08/2003 23:01

Kaz, I sympathise about your dp being away - still, you have always got us to chat to, and more importantly, full use of the remote control.
