excited, yes, panicky, much more... all the sudden i am doubting everything i have done or decided on so far, at least, the hospital bag is packed, and i refused to add anything to it.

4andnotout · 31/03/2010 21:59

Ah but the sniff of a newborns warm fuzzy head and it will all be worth it!

Morning all .

Myjob, have found a website that had UD pockets for sale if it is of any use to you - I know it is not the same as custom stuff but they have some nice ones there and they have only just opened this week I think here.

salbysea · 01/04/2010 12:24

I don't think sleeping bags are recommended for newborns (Even though they say 0-6) I used sheets and cellular blankets until my LO was big enough that the neck hole couldnt be lifted over his face IYKWIM. Think it was around 2ish months?

bumpers are not recommended (suffocation and choking hazards, plus toddlers can use them as steps to launch out of their cots) and TBH with a summer baby you want all the air circulation you can get. I use one now because due to lack of space, the top of LOs cot is against the side of a single bed and I don't want him using the bed as a step to escape now he's toddling, but the bumper is on the outside and tied to the top (with the gap at the bottom) so no step effect and no rings made by ties to pose a hanging hazard (as the bumper comes right up to where its tied and its in knots not bows etc)

is it just me or is it normal to start panicking now? i think i have too much time now on maternity leave, and i am watching too many baby programs for sure...

peachybums · 01/04/2010 16:05

My baby is due in 4 weeks. I still have DD sleeping bags but i will probs use blankets and sheets for the first 8 weeks or so even though they are 0-6mths. I found DD felt a bit warm in hers to start with and i ended up putting her in just blankets. Also i maybe wrong but i dont think sleeping bags are recommended in moses baskets which i will be using. Little babies dont kick off covers as much when first born so blankets should be ok. .

Hope everything goes ok, and yes we all panic at the end im on baby 3 and im still worrying about the birth and if i have everything and if everythings going to get done and am i gonna get enough sleep to cope...........etc etc etc. Youll be fine once baby is here though lol.

salbysea · 01/04/2010 18:14

thanks for letting me know myjob, glad it arrived safe and sound

alle01 · 01/04/2010 18:15

thanks, peachybum, that's reassuring,...i will be putting him straight into a cot bed, we figure that a moses basket is an unnecessary luxury since he won't use it long and nobody thought of it as a present, probably because my sil bought a very expensive one and she could only use it for 2 or 3 months, babies in my family are terribly tall,...

the health visitor just got in contact with us, what is that all about? the home visit before the baby is born and all that? i can see panic my way, is it like an evaluation to see if you're ready?

salbysea · 01/04/2010 18:22

alle01 I met my HV before having LO, its just a little get to know you thingy and she also uses it to find out if you have any PND or SIDS risk factors that she needs to know about to keep a closer eye on you when the baby's born. Also gets your red book started

I had one of these in the big cot (and used it in the lounge during the day) never had a moses basket - bulky ugly things IMO LOL www.amazon.co.uk/Summer-Infant-Snuggle-Nest-Pink/dp/B001B9ETTM

they fold up nicely for nights away and storage (mine was £19 in tkmaxx)

alle01 · 01/04/2010 18:33

i got as a present one of those little seats for newborns that vibrate from fisher price, i think i'll use that during the day,... but the first few weeks should sleep and feed all day, right? it's at night that they keep awake,...

salbysea · 01/04/2010 18:46

lol! you sound pretty clued up

alle01 · 01/04/2010 18:53

i better be, i think i have read every book, article in the internet, watch every program, ask sisters, friends, anybody with a small baby, but it doesn't help me feel better, even my husband is starting to ignore any conversation starting by: do you think i should/need...?

alle01 · 01/04/2010 19:17

what to do with all the time in these waiting final weeks? i've been watching telly, reading books, spending too much time on the internet, going for walks,etc... but everybody else is working, and i have too much time that i spend looking for little flaws on everything done so far

salbysea · 01/04/2010 19:24

well this is what I did, I went for short walks into town and invariably came home hormonal and furious about poor service or lack of red carpets laid out for pregnant women. I used up a whole writing pad writing letters of complaint to vent my frustration and anger to EVERYONE (shops, the council, the freeholder, royal mail, environmental health, bus companies...) and then forgot I'd done it until my LO was about 2 months old and letters of apologies along with £20 vouchers started rolling in my door

salbysea · 01/04/2010 19:27

oh I also stocked up on stamps, thank you cards, and presents and cards for everyone who would have birthdays while my LO was still little. Wrapped them all up addressed and ready to go. That was quite handy once LO arrived.

Also sorted the filing cabinet and did as much financial planning as I could

Then sat around waiting for nesting to kick in rather than getting off my @rse and doing the cleaning/tidying anyway. It never happened

alle01 · 01/04/2010 19:34

great idea about the cards, i have a few already about all those little presents everyone is getting.

i would like to clean more, but can't be asked, so i am making hubby do it.
it's so bad that lately i don't get out of bed before noon, i am totally unreliable and get everywhere 2 hours later than i said i would, but, i am heavily pregnant and nobody gets mad at me, or at least they say: never mind, dear, and probably secretly swear they don't have all day to wait around for me

salbysea · 01/04/2010 19:37

nah don't worry, I never take a meeting with a pregnant lady or mum of newborn for granted, its a case of if they turn up, great! If they don't make it, fair enough I was so antisocial near the end that if they turn up at all, however late, I am terribly impressed! during the last week I wouldn't even answer the phone never mind the front door LOL

alle01 · 01/04/2010 19:43

yeah i started just hanging up on the cold callers, rather than taking the mickey out of them as usual, and the other day i said to the postman: and what you want now? on my pijamas, the bad thing is i know him and he looked really pissed at me,...

salbysea · 01/04/2010 19:50

my aunt drove a distance to drop off some baby clothes for me. "NO I AM PREGNANT AND TIRED AND I DONT WANT TO SEE ANYONE"
her "I wont come in I'll just drop them off"
"NO"
her "I could leave them outside the door"
rang my mum "TELL HER NOOO"

bless her she's a grandma so she understood thank god, and I did go into labour the next day so I hope that excuses me a bit!

anyway........... nappies!......

alle01 · 01/04/2010 19:55

that;s another nightmare, i got a way to get practically free washable nappies from my council, they are prefold and will be delivered in a couple of weeks, i really don't know much about nappies, but i am also getting some support,...i'll buy a few disposible ones for the first couple of days, for hospital and so, i'll get the hang of the other ones once i am settle with the baby.
look at me, sounds like i know what i am talking about...

salbysea · 01/04/2010 20:02

I'm afraid I don't know anything useful about newborns in nappies. I didn't get into cloth till LO was 9mo. Lots of clever helpful people on here though Very jealous though that you are going to have a diddy fluff covered bum! so cute! If I have any more kids I think I'll be really excited about mini cloth nappies
