Wow Scotia! Did they different Itti limited eds in those days?

Scotia · 30/12/2009 20:04

Lol. You mean in the olden days. I used terry squares and nappy pins with plastic pants. No problems with leaky night nappies either I had loads of frilly covered plastic pants so no need for fancy ittis way back then, lol.

We even had colour telly too

Thank you

bagpuss · 30/12/2009 21:01

This is all very interesting stuff, thanks everyone .

Tree, we use either unbleached nippa tots at night or more often nature babies big softies all with rikki wraps at the moment. I have red wraps for when the dts are bigger and sleeping through. I have ittis already too.

Swampster, I know what you mean about bgs but I do like dt1's pink one though . I keep idly looking at blueberry one size which were just available when ds2 was pt 2 years ago so never got to try. Also spotted the gro baby earlier - we obviously both have expensive taste . Am with you on the frills though but not on the gussets, but only because the dts have skinny legs!

Myjob, I was like that with ds2, everything fitted him.

Sal, didn't know that about the coolababy - I think I would probably kill them then.

Scotia, you'll be sounding like my mum next. She maintains that she only had 12 terries for me which was plenty and clearly doesn't understand my need for pretty fluff.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 30/12/2009 21:07

4: Thanks for pics! And sorry you've got the hassle of posting it on, but at least you'll have tried both sizes!

So just wondering, how did you find the sizing, for being a US size 1? Would you say it was more like a 6/9-12m or more of a 12-18m? And open to suggestions as to if my pricing idea of around 10 pounds for a dress (with better quality fabric, of course!) would seem reasonable, or too much?

Worried I might be turning my nappy addiction into a sewing one ... just bought an older Viking sewing machine for 16 quid on ebay! If it works, it's a killer bargain! But will mean I'm now going to have 2 sewing machines AND 2 overlockers! Just have to wait for Abigail to grow up and be sewing with me, right?! Then again, a major reason to get into sewing again was to give me a more useful "hobby" instead of nappy buying/swapping, since we have more than enough and they're working! lol

speaking of nappies, since I said I would let ppl know what they were like when they came, does anyone remember when I bought those pocket nappies off ebay from China a couple months back, ones that had the same print as previous fuzzibunz? Well, seems there were postal problems in China last month and parcels were lost/delayed, so the seller re-sent my parcel a couple of weeks ago. Then yesterday the orignal package arrived. However, there's no way they'll fit Benjamin - the back side of the nappies are very narrow indeed - almost for a baby without a bum! Or maybe a very slim fitting nappy! I presume they're like birth to medium rather than birth to potty, despite having poppers down the front which makes you think they're to do the whole range. Their listing does say up to 10kg/22lb, but the measurements they gave were similar to btp ones we have which do fit, so bit confusing. Anyway, so I've been trying to sell them on, since Clement can't take fleece nappies (even if they would fit him). I've managed to sell several, so at least I've covered half my costs so far. But then today the 2nd parcel has arrived! So I'm flooded with these nappies! The seller said I can keep the extra 10 nappies as a free gift if I leave them good feedback! In all honesty, they were a very kind & helpful seller - no problems there - tho nappies might not be the best shape/design. Then again, I don't have a small baby to try them on, so they might be perfect for the right size little one! So anyway, I guess I'll stash my freebie nappies away until we get another baby someday! LOL But hopefully I'll manage to sell the other from the first pack, as rather a shame to be buying nappies that we can't even use!

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 30/12/2009 21:11

Rachel i would say fit wise it was a 9-12 as it was plenty long enough and could fit a t shirt underneath, i think £10 would be a fair price depending on fabrics etc, will post it on tommorow

thebluefoxategreensocks · 30/12/2009 21:15

oops, I'm talking too much!

But speaking of pretty nappies, my sister in USA has been bitten by the bug too! She was determined to do it cheaply and bought lots of prefolds before her 1st baby was born....they've never been used! I/she founds some bargain bamboo Little Lambs on Used Nappies which I sent over to her. She loved these but then when her little girl was needing size 2s, I found her lots of rainbow Bamboozles, which she also loved. I also sent her a few pretty pink wraps like the girly Nature Babies ones etc. Well now, her baby is in Blueberries! All sorts of AIOs, pockets, wraps - minky etc. So now that she's been bitten by the designer bug, she'll never be the same! LOL

swampster · 30/12/2009 21:21

Hooray for your sister coming over to the fluffy side, rachel!

Scotia · 30/12/2009 21:39

Bagpuss, I had 2 dozen terry squares

My mum is quite impressed by the lovely nappies and woolies we are using this time round though

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 30/12/2009 21:42

I had 2 dozen terry squares, 3 rubber pants, 3 nippas and they did for dd1 and dd2 and cost less than £20 from the day they came home from hospital to the day they potty trained.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 30/12/2009 22:19

just been fabric shopping on ebay and buying some lovely Alexander Henry & Michael Miller fabric pieces - for doing appliques/pockets on some dresses! As well as some denim fabric, to go along with some pink and brown linen like "organic hand dyed" cotton I bought off ebay some months back (no idea what it is exactly, but was sold to me as organic cotton, and I think it's hand-dyed by the semi-irregular pattern. Very nice though! So should be all set for some fabrics for at least several dresses ... but if I don't get off the stupid computer more often, I'll never get anything made! Then again, I've spent all my pennies, so I have no need for online shopping right now!

I really really like the Traffic Jam print by Alexander Henry (since I have 2 boys! ) but somehow I don't think it would really suit a wee dress!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 22:21

waves to everyone and a big hello to bagpuss

struggling to keep up again, but am reading!

dresses look lovely Rachel!

My pumpkin pants flongies are a large, but seem much narrower across the hip than the soaker pants (not done a direct comparison though). They are long of leg though; DD who is 2.5 is wearing them as jammy bottoms and they are just perfect in the leg for her. She has claimed them from bumble!

Am knitting some stripey longies for a friend (hence the absence; her DS is only 3 months old already and this is a new baby present!!) and losing the will to live at the thought of all the sewing in of ends that needs to be done. I'm also thinking that stripey "starsoaker" longies will have a price premium attached as a result of this experiment!!!

Rachel - monkeyfoot bag lady sells michael miller, alexander henry and amy butler fabric as they use them all the time - traffic jam is a good print and sells very well but not really a good dress fabric - april showers would be nice or pink 2D zoo.

Hello all btw! I have been using cloth for 8 1/2 years - started with motherease then moved onto a whole combo inc lollipop rainbows but mainly fuzzis on ds3.

octothechildherder · 30/12/2009 23:33

myjob - flongies in post Some people just seem to have got them quicker than others! will double check postage book in morning but am pretty sure posted them on 23rd/24th

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 30/12/2009 23:35

Where can we see them daisy? Or am I missing something really obvious?

The almond sparrows fabric would make a lovely dress, with a brown trim, or big brown buttons.

octothechildherder · 30/12/2009 23:46

ooh yes - that would be nice!

The amy butler website has wholesale fabric and patterns on it for budding makers - you could have a sew along - cool!! There is a new place opened in Bath called The Makery - am hoping to get some sewing tutorials - they also sell all the basic sewing goods. Looks very cool!
