What are you calling your daughter's fanjo?

I was brought up with 'fanny' but that grosses people out these days. Lots of friends use 'nunny' which grosses me out.

What is the girl equivalent of the word 'willy' - what are you all using with your DDs?

IMO "fanny" is the female equivalent of "cock", so that's why I wouldn't use it.

suwoo · 11/06/2009 11:03

Fanny is like 'street talk' and the equivalent of pussy IMO.

DD calls hers a fairy, although she is quite aware of the words vulva and vagina. DS has a winky or willy, but again DD knows it is called a penis- DS is 2 and doesn't care.

I have always been honest about the reproductive side of things and she has understood about periods and the birth process from a very early age.

She did ask me the other night though, how daddys sperm got into mummys vagina to fertilise the egg. "Is there a kind of wire joining you together?"

"snort, cough, not exactly" was my reply and she left it at that.

minko · 11/06/2009 11:15

DD has a 'wink', DS has a 'willy'. Since we are sometimes found discussing DD's itchy wink in the queue in the supermarket (or wherever), I think I'd be more embarrassed if she said she had an itchy vulva...

Mine was a 'Minnie' ..... it doesn't really matter because they get to an age when you can tell them the correct word and THEY WON'T BE SCARED FOR LIFE OR FEEL BETRAYED BY YOU FOR LYING - CALL IT WHATEVER YOU LIKE FOR NOW. All their friends will have different names for it.

mrsdisorganised · 11/06/2009 11:25

Vagina, like some one above my dd3 also ends up with 'gina'.

SuperWasher · 11/06/2009 11:26

We always say bits, but dd (3) has started to say minnie because thats what her friends say. She was "exploring" the other day and said ooh look, there's the hole of my bits so I told her that was her vagina-she couldn't say it properly though.

saggyjuju · 11/06/2009 12:01

my children called it looby lou, dont know where or how they got that name, and low and behold andy pandy has had a revamp and back on tv,the kids were in fits of laughter that a doll on a kids program has the name of their privates,my son even more strangely calls his balls nuggets,i mean what hope do we have, hes started secondry school and quite rightly uses the correct terms, but these make me cringe and remember my sex education at secondary school,NOT GOOD

Rollergirl1 · 11/06/2009 13:10

We say minky

hercules1 · 11/06/2009 13:12

vagina/vulva - why on earth people feel the need to call it silly made up name is beyond me.

saggyjuju · 11/06/2009 13:16

its me in my case,i cant even say the correct names to the doctor!

hercules1 · 11/06/2009 13:18

But your dd will grown up with the same hangups too. Do you really want her not to be able to use the word when talking to a doctor

THese threads always make me and

saggyjuju · 11/06/2009 13:25

fully agree, have made a concious effort to not do this and my son was very honest, open and easy to chat with me about all the differant bits and bobs and took quite a healthy interest in sex ed,i was just cringing inside

nessus · 11/06/2009 13:27

I vaguely remember kimininunu being used by my older cousin, which I adopted whilst she was younger but tbh DD (8.5) just calls it her bum.

Yes, the entire region according to the gospel of DD is bum!

One of her male friends, same age as her, was listening to his Mom and I talking and I asked after her Dad's angina and he turned around going "eew you said vagina" - his Mom told him to stop being silly but not before DD had asked what that was...

I told her it was another word for a girl's front bum

Mamamila, haven't heard poonani in yonks! Made me laugh Conjures up image of Beenie Man and slack lyrics

Shootfromthehip, I am so feeling you on that. There are some things that we have to strive to be dignified about and minge just would not do so I would go with vagina too lol

Think I might get my Mom to have a chat with DD now she is getting older...

nessus · 11/06/2009 13:28

Patthehammer why have I got this cute image of your DD & her barbie looking for gina! Aaawww

i remember finding that second hole,i did a backward roll on my top bunk with my butt cheeks facing the mirrored wardrobe opposite,i thought i was being clever grossing my mum out,but boy did that come back to bite me in the bum!! (just like to clarify was bout 4-5)

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 11/06/2009 13:38

When I was a child it was a willy or a front bit...but my brother also had a willy!

Ds(nearly 11)has a willy or a penis and Dd(2.5)has a Minnie. I think it's a pleasant nickname for it. It isn't harsh or too personal. We can do all that when she's older.

stripeypineapple · 11/06/2009 13:42

We call it a minnie but DD knows the proper names vulva and vagina.

Most parents of boys call their bits willies which is hardly a 'proper' name so why shouldn't girls and their parents be allowed the same convenience of an easy and informal name?

AccioPinotGrigio · 11/06/2009 14:22

Vulva is close but it still refers to the external genitalia rather than the urethra which is actually located in the vulval vestibule.

[shouts] don't forget to wipe your vulval vestibule dear .........

Sunflower100 · 11/06/2009 14:28

DDs is her 'bits'

HelloBeastie · 11/06/2009 14:35

I'm afraid DH and I started calling it her 'bejingo' (from Scrubs) as a joke...and of course it has stuck so DD(2) calls it a 'binga-binga-jing'.

We will tell her. At some point.

PatTheHammer · 11/06/2009 15:27

nessus She also wondered where the nipples were on the boobies, guess this is because mine are constantly out and attched to DS's mouth! She calls them buttons (where the milk comes out of clearly.......Daddy's buttons do not produce milk). I have told her they are called nipples but she just agrees and then calls them buttons!

I remember 'minnie' being used a lot when I was younger, wouldn't have done for DD though as she is a big fan of minnie mouse!

binga-binga-jing is hilarious!

Agree that nothing will scar your child for life, although I do still have a friend that calls it her 'woo-woo' (that will change when she has kids and loses all dignity/shyness about her private parts)

Pingpong · 11/06/2009 15:28

There are a few body parts that have names that aren't the medical one but are frequently used eg kneecap was pointed out earlier but also funnybone for elbow, Tummy or belly for stomach.
I have chosen to use do-da as it isn't used for something else. We sing twinkle twinkle little star at the end of every swimming session so why should that song be associated with a vagina/front bottom/fou-fou.
But agree each to their own and I don't see why people get so and about it.

twoluvlykids · 11/06/2009 15:31

Used to be "Wincie", which I borrowed from a friend (Wincie Willis was a weather presenter).

her georgie cousins called it a Fairy, which I thought was quite sweet.

Now, never up for discussion....
