Congrats on wrap success!

I am only 3 rows away from having completed half the longies (knitted in two halves and sewn together). Touch wood, I haven't made any major mistakes yet - there's one stitch out on the waistband, but you have to be about an inch away to spot it.

I am now contemplating getting some double pointed needles and sock yarn and knitting some baby leg warmers - if I get the yarn right they should be the same kind of thickness as babylegs. Reckon I can do them for less than the £7 it'll cost me to buy them (esp if I knit a few extra and sell them).

ooh, and I can pick colours to perfectly match the ittis!

Ooh put up some photos and I'm sure you'll be inundated with offers.

Hopefully - I see you have settled in very quickly on this thread!

I have just ordered a WNOS with embroidery, i'm really nervous as it's really hard choosing fabric colours to match when you can't see it in the flesh. I went for royal blue minkee with this zebra embroidery, God I hope it works!! It should look like this (sorry for crap pc skills!!) if the colour is the same as in their fabric library.

mumoftoby · 28/02/2009 20:17

lollipop that looks so cute! When it arrives please post a photo if lollipoppet in it

Hopefully · 28/02/2009 20:18

That embroidery's so sweet, E's going to look gorgeous in it!

Grrr, I am going to need another ball of yarn, and the shop is closed tomorrow. Was a bit optimistic about my yarn usage. Will have to get as far as I can, and with a bit of luck I'll be able to finish my longies on Monday.
Will something like Woolite be ok for wool wash/using with lanolin initially, or should I get some posher wool shampoo? Anyone know? I'm guessing it will be ok while I try out the whole wool thing, then I'll get some of that lovely scented stuff if I carry on.

mumoftoby · 28/02/2009 20:19

sorry - of - not if. I'm not sleep deprived anymore so I can't even use that as an excuse.

rusmum · 28/02/2009 21:55

drlove i love your wraps- very clever- have you got a pattern?

swampster · 28/02/2009 22:49

You are not wrong, rus, those wraps look well comfy.

soon2befamilyof4 · 01/03/2009 00:53

I am VERY Jelous of those of you who can make their own nappies and wraps etc . In fact, I am very tempted to ask my Dad if he would teach me some basics on a sewing machine, maybe just to make some simple washable wipes or something so wouldn't matter if they didn't go right? And then go from there? But I am a bit worried I will be trying to do too much. In the last month I have converted back to cloth, switched from eating processed crap to spending an hour or so preparing healthy meals from scratch everynight and now I want to learn to sew! But it is rediculous, I don't even know how to turn up a pair of trousers .

I went to the baby show today and bought some washable wipes there (so don't actually need to make any but was just an idea to get started). I bough this set but with an extra set of 25 wipes free because it was a baby show offer. So got 50 altogether. Bit plain but will do the job and I liked how you get everything you need so I can get started right away.

Does anybody know if I need to pre-wash wipes?

Don't suppose anybody is selling an Upsey daisy night nappy?

I have put DD to bed in a minki pocket tonight and hoping she will last the night in it, but not sure. Hoping she will as that will be one less thing to worry about if I know I have something that lasts the night!

Also, I spoke to a lady today selling pop ins, and asked about how the booster goes in and why it has a popper but there is no space for it etc. She said the popper is incase you want to use the booster as the actual nappy pad rather than a booster. ie if you put the nappy on and they poo in in stright away but the outer bit is clean, you can change the pop in nappy bit iyswim? So 4 - it wasn't just me and you being silly! So it just places on top when being used as a booster with the other pop in layers.

soon2befamilyof4 · 01/03/2009 10:31

Oh dear - I was the last one on here last night and the first on this morning! I need a life!

I am all excited as DD wore her minki pocket to bed last night and went all night with no leaks! BUT she hadn't drunk as much milk yesterday and it was less time on because she was late to bed so will try it out again once washed. I have another minki on the way too so will have 2 and if I get on with them with no leaks, I will be investing in enough to have her completly full time in cloth (instead of wearing sposies at night). It was very bulky though, and I took a layer out that I had originally put in as she look uncomfortable.

If anybody has made fleece wipes - do you just cut up the fleece into squares or do you need to sew the edges? I want them to last as I will be using for years hopefully. I have a pink fleece blanket upstairs of DDs that I could use - she has loads of blankets. Is there different types of fleece? The blanket says 100% polyester - is this ok?

Do you think it is ok to use the same washable wipes for bums and faces? Obviously being washed in between?

Hopefully · 01/03/2009 10:43

I put DS in a WNNN for the first time last night. Still plenty of absorbancy left this morning, but my goodness they are enormous! It reached practically from armpit to knees, and i didn't even put in the extra snap in bit. Think I might continue with the bumhuggers for now, as he doesn't really need the extra bulk of the WNNN yet.

Soon2be I am very impressed with your conversion to domestic goddess!
Really like that wipe system - the clean and dirty bags appeals to my anal nature! Really need to get a reusable wet bag for out and about instead of current system of plastic bag. What does everyone use?

swampster · 01/03/2009 10:45

Hi soon, I'm just mostly doing lurking at the mo - new baby, too tired to post. So I'm just watching your online antics. Next you will be weaving your own lentils and knitting your own muesli.

I have the Nappies by Minki washable wipes and I love them. And their wetbags. I don't like the way they send random wipes so I had a bunch of camouflage ones made up. Michaela Minki is a real person who will do stuff like that for you.

swampster · 01/03/2009 10:47

Hopefully, it's got to be a Stinki Minki!

soon2befamilyof4 · 01/03/2009 11:29

Swampster - I agree, the minki bags are lovely. Although the one I have is very small and wouldn't hold enough for a whole day out.
I have a couple of other wet bags which are much bigger, but not as nice as the minki one.

I am about to list some wraps for sale if anybody is interested. They are very basic wraps though - mainly pro wraps.

swampster · 01/03/2009 12:08

I cart a couple of Stinki Minkis around on a day out - don't want one ginormous smelly sack!

soon2befamilyof4 · 01/03/2009 12:41

Lol. I am quite tempted to get some more of them TBH! I got this one with a pre loved minki nappy last week - they matched! I just need to stop buying! .

rusmum · 01/03/2009 13:46

Hi all how is everyone?

4andnotout · 01/03/2009 13:53

Hi everyone,
Still havent gone home! So mum has washed and dried the nappies for me!
Last night was a raucous affair and im feeling quite tender this morning, dd4's nappies are making me gag! She has started on solids so her poo is changing ie it reeks!
Anyway, i have money burning a whole in paypal so im off on a hunt for something fluffy....

drlove8 · 01/03/2009 15:20

hiya everyone! Hopefully , hows the longies going? did you manage to get more yarn?am well impressed that your knitting your own- cant knit myself and wouldnt know where to start! lol.Rusmum i didnt have a pattern as such, i used a tots wrap and drew around it with taliors chalk and sort of went with that. was so easy to do .... i drew on the pul , then pinned the fleece to the pul and cut them both together. then i sewed them together with a zig-zag stitch. once that was done i added the F.O.E (fold over elastic) streatching the elastic at the straight edges and around the "leg parts".once that was done added the aplix and thats it. easy!. i used a zig-zag stitch because its got streatch to it and works with elastic. i've only had my sewing machine a few weeks and never used one before.had one very quick lesson from BF .

TheLadyEvenstar · 01/03/2009 17:28

DrLove, where did you get your PUL from? I am desperatly looking for some.

Hopefully · 01/03/2009 17:45

The longies are coming along nicely! I've done about a third of the second half, if that makes sense. Made an annoying mistake earlier and had to unpick 2 rows, otherwise I'd be further along. Yarn shop wasn't open today, but will be rushing over the first thing tomorrow to get one more ball to finish up. Is it bad if I neglect DS tomorrow to finish his longies? It's for his own good!

soon2befamilyof4 · 01/03/2009 21:18

I think I am going to have to sell my nappy nation size 2s - does anybody know how much I should ask for them? I have no idea. I usually look on ebay and on the nappy sale sites but nappy nation just doesn't seem to be around much? They are a great nappy if you don't have hard water or if you tumble dry for at least part of the drying time.
Any ideas on a price (per nappy) I should be asking?

drlove8 · 01/03/2009 22:46

TLE i got the PUL from cottontots!. its a wee bit pricey at £14 a meter, but you can also buy cuts for £2.50. they sell microfleece and FOE and aplix too.

TheLadyEvenstar · 02/03/2009 08:39

Drlove thankyou!!!
