DS2 says "Mummy my heart is beeping"

underknow instead of understand

Wispabarsareback · 13/01/2009 21:32

DD1 - who is five and a half - says 'next beside' rather than 'next to' or 'beside'. She still says 'gooder' and 'worser' instead of 'better' and 'worse'. She hasn't got the hang of 'upside down' and says 'upset down' - I can sort of see the logic!

She loves 'The Sound of Music' and wants to know why the housekeeper - Frau Schmidt - is called 'Parsnip'. Which has me in hysterics every time, and she is affronted.

Wispabarsareback · 13/01/2009 21:34

Have just remembered, when DD1 was a toddler she called ducklings 'quacklings'.

Lol. So cute!

Ds1 used to say cucu baba for cucumber
lello for yellow
coocoo for squirrel

Haribolicious · 13/01/2009 22:13

DS calls his pj's jarbras - a parrot is a pirate - weetabix is bickabix and DVD is deeveedebee! When playing hide n seek with DH, he shouts "here the daddy!!" and sings "okie dokie" to hokey cokie fab!!!

MeAndMyMonkey · 13/01/2009 22:20

DD (2 yrs 2 months):
London Bridge - 'Number Fridge'
Ketchup and sweetcorn were, I'm afraid, 'catshit' and 'shitcorn' until fairly recently.
My favourite is 'I know what happens', said very bossily and a propos of absolutely everything at the moment.

misspollysdolly · 13/01/2009 22:22

My little sister (now 27!) used to call squirrels 'squillos' and also used to refer to my Mum's Women's Institute meetings as Mummy having gone to 'Wibbly I'...tee hee!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/01/2009 22:57

I love the way dd2 (3.5) says "nused", as in "We nused to go there/ do that, didn't we mum?"

We also have a pooter (computer) and dd1 used (nused?) to say "Please habbit, habbit!" when she wanted something

Today I couldn't understand what dd2 was going on about, but eventually worked out when she was saying "undershlept" she meant that we had overslept.

And the song Frere Jacques will forever be "farmer's Jacket" in this house

ChasingSquirrels · 13/01/2009 23:05

when my ds2 says "me sporticus" it sounds like "me gorgeous" (his pron. is appauling, he has only just started talking really - nearly 3). He found ds1's old sporticus costume and is wearing it constantly so says this alot. Makes my heart flip - he IS gorgeous.
just before christmas we had the following convo:
ds2: me gorgeous, you not gorgeous
me: you're gorgeous?
ds2: me not gorgeous, me fine
me:
Eventually worked out it was sporticus not gorgeous!

FairLadyRantALot · 14/01/2009 21:27

hehe, ms always says vermilla instead of vanilla...

naswm · 14/01/2009 21:28

has anyone said par cark yet?

womblingfree · 14/01/2009 22:02

Pregnanthedgewith - my DD called her dummy a num-a-num! Have no idea where it came from do you? Often used to call it that when talking to other grown-ups myself and they looked at me as if I was bonker cos they hadn't a clue what I was on about!

We also have noo-noos (kisses) - have no idea how that came about either....

womblingfree · 14/01/2009 22:04

Fair Lady - you've just reminded DD is an avid fan of 'Stricly' but couldn't get her head around Camilla last year, so it she became Vanilla and it stuck - all this series we were talking about Tom and Vanilla - she was well-chuffed when they won!

showmeyourpuku · 14/01/2009 22:22

DS1 calls gooseberries goga-ba-geggie, and points at his brother and sings 'ooh baby baby' - I think he thinks its his name! and bfing is 'muddy' (comes from us saying muzzy for muslin cloths!) a bit weird in public when he's frantically poking my boobs yelling 'muddy' 'muddy' at the top of his lungs :-)

When we were kids we thought mum went to town to see Batman - how cool was she! She was in fact going to the chiropractor - the 'back man'

BikeRunSki · 14/01/2009 22:22

When my nephews were little they had "raining cheese" (grated cheese) and when we were little we had "crazy parrots" (grated carrots). DS is only 4 months old, but I fully intend to introduce these words to him when we wean!

More shamedly, my bro is called Andrew. My mum used to cook him fried eggs as a treat. She called them Andrew Eggs. I just thought this was a coincidence. Until I was 14 and on a school trip...

Also, "inhandy" (me, about 30 years ago) for ampidextrous.

Even more shamedly, I thought that those old estate gardens full of rare trees were called "ArbeTREEums" (arbortereum) until LAST WEEK. I am well over 30, and should really know better.

showmeyourpuku · 14/01/2009 22:25

About two years ago my husband realised the song 'sweet emotion' was not 'feel the motion' as he'd thought - he's 30 too!

Nellycake · 14/01/2009 22:37

Loads and DD has grown out of them along the way.

One of my favourites is bana for banana and she likes to hab a little rest (instead of have)

nowtygaffer · 14/01/2009 22:44

My DS used to say 'I am a garlic' in a dalek voice.

ellasmum1 · 14/01/2009 22:55

dd calls ds's moses basket his Motor basket! And she used to talk about the garlics in Dr who too! umbrellas are number ellas. Calpol is alcohol, which results in some funny looks I can tell you!

pamplemousse · 14/01/2009 22:59

My friend is called Michelle, I call her Shell, my dd calls her Shelf. 'We going to Shelf's house mummy?' Fab

mamadiva · 14/01/2009 23:14

My DS 2.5YO calls Crisps - Crisamiss, for some reason LOL.

nappyaddict · 14/01/2009 23:14

eggibles

EachPeachPearMum · 14/01/2009 23:16

These are all so gorgeous.

DD (2.11) says ay-di-rator for radiator.

LackaDAISYcal · 14/01/2009 23:17

My 19mo DD was trying to say spaghetti tonight and it came out as Betty....very cute.

she also calls her new little brother, whose name is Finlay, Bumble. We all call him bumble now.

mamadiva · 14/01/2009 23:23
