GENERAL CHAT THREAD FOR CLOTH NAPPY USERS - PART 3

(Incredibly childish) BBM sneakily makes part 3 thread and places Sandy's flag at the top for a second time.

(Flag is made from organic cotton and has been dry pailed and washed at 40C)

right tumble drier costs 50p a hour but it says it uses 3.3kg of green house gases which seems loads

lollipopmother · 20/11/2008 18:36

I don't think it's good for the nappies to fully tumble them because it's harsh on the fibres but I might be wrong. I've never tumbled and I've never had a nappy still wet after 36h, my Sandy's generally dry after 24h, Lovables take about 2h but inserts a bit longer, even my new-style Bumhuggers dry quickly.

babyjjbaby · 20/11/2008 18:43

i have just taken them out they were only in ther 5 mins then it went up alot and said 3.3kgs a hour gas so tooke them out i think if u r going to tumble dry them u might aswell use disposibles tbh i would be quite happy to sell the tumbler tbh i don't use it very often anywya and that has made me even more determined not to use it i only use it to dry the woolys once a week cos i do not know how to fry them without them going out of shape

(uses tumble drier all the time)

lollipopmother · 20/11/2008 19:06

I fully intend to use my MIL's tumbler when we're at hers this weekend, I want to see if it makes any difference, I have some slightly hard Sandy's to test it on.

I've got DD in a Wonderoo with the small insert in and I swear it's no bigger than a disposable, def smaller than a Lovable or XS Sandy's.

Sunflower Is Maia not swamped in the S Sandy's? Tried Elizabeth in one today and it was massive still, I couldn't leave her in it.

babyjjbaby · 20/11/2008 19:07

it wouldn't hurt once in a while but i am not using it as i only use resubales for the envroment and seeing how much green house gases it creates don't see the point

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/11/2008 19:14

I have to be honest it is not an environment issue with me just simply i feel disposable nappies made mums lazy! and I did use them with ds1 but i hated the smell of them so when i was pg with ds2 i wanted to do things differently.

4andnotout · 20/11/2008 20:56

I'm really sad and only use reusables for purely aesthetic reasons, blueberry minki anyone Having 4 kiddies and 1 big kiddy i need my tumble dryer to keep up with the washing

BigBadMouse · 20/11/2008 21:16

Doh, DD1 was poorly when she got home from school so I didn't make it to the presentation today . lollipop not actually sure who I was going to be talking to today - I just go where I am sent with a bunch of nappies then find out who the audience are and what they want from me. The tricky bit is trying not to go on for too long . Today I think it was first time mums-to-be and some childcare workers. Luckily they want me back asap I usually do one or two a week but with this one being a new location I'd rather DD2 didn't add her own comments .

DS won't fit in his Fuzzis atm He has gone so thin around the waist that they gape too much even on the smallest setting - he still has his chubby little legs so they fit well around those . DS thinks the gaping top bit is great though - easy to get his hands down the front when he's feeling bored

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 20/11/2008 21:17

lollipop - she's on the smallest settings, they are a bit bigger than pop-ins, but then I have bamboo ones and I think they're thinner than cotton (BBM can compare them).

I finish nappies off in dryer with dryer balls (10-15 mins) to get them softer, same as towels - v. hard water here.

ilovemydog · 20/11/2008 21:30

BBM you need to disseminate to nurseries!

The sheer number of disposable nappies they go through is outrageous.

When DS came with me to London last month, the nursery did cotton nappies as standard...

How's the washing machine? I love my new one (Bosch Max ). It has this brilliant setting for hyper quick washes at 15 minutes, which is what I use for all but sheets and duvet covers. (and nappies that have gone past a day ) So, my machine may join your machine on that spa day for a job well done!

BigBadMouse · 20/11/2008 22:12

bamboo sandies are thinner than cotton - is tht what you wanted me to compare sunflower

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 20/11/2008 22:19

BBM - thanks, yes, tought you wouldn't have minded talking about Sandy's... (btw, any F-Ss during your demo?)

lollipop - I could fit them under an XS airflow, so I guess the cotton wouldn't?

lollipopmother · 21/11/2008 01:33

Guys i've got some nappies I want to sell, i'll just put them up here before anywhere else in case you might be interested.

1 x small Fluffle - pre-washed (£6)
3 x small Kissaluvs - pre-washed (£5)
2 x small quick flips (nippa) - guc (£3)
2 x small pink tots bots - used a couple of times (£4)
2 x size 1 tots bots strawberry wraps (£3)

lollipopmother · 21/11/2008 01:36

oh, and 5 x small Motherease boosters to go in Sandy's - pre washed (£1.50)

treedelivery · 21/11/2008 02:27

I'm a newbie on the thread - so I realise this pre-advert isn't meant for me!!

But I'll take your Kissaluvs, fluffle and the wraps if the regulars don't want them.

Having dd2 in Jan and using washables for 1st time. Found mumsnet 2 weeks ago and an addict!! Am also becoming increasingly obsessed with washables!!

Will research the others too if -again - the regulars don't want. Am not using a tumble dryer [too tight] and so need to research drying times and 'hard water crunching tendancies'

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 21/11/2008 09:15

treedelivery - that's how I started... found mn about a month before I was due, looking for advice on reusables, now I'm addicted to mn and am swamped with nappies

rusmum · 21/11/2008 09:53

anypne want my last 2 bamboozles?

BigBadMouse · 21/11/2008 09:56

lollipop doh! I want a medium quick flip - can you get it to grow a little bit?

hello treedelivery - beware of Sunflowers warning....it all starts innocently enough and then...... cloth nappies everywhere! Housework abandoned! 'Threads I'm on' list covers takes 10 mins to scroll down etc etc

rusmum · 21/11/2008 11:41

lollipop you here???

AnnVan · 21/11/2008 13:53

Message for Lollipop and Sunflower - I finally FINALLY got the bumhugger! Will not bore you with my very angry rant about the post office and the jobsworth behind the counter grrrrr.
and

I also am not primarily motivated by the environmental issue to use cloth - I like the way they look and feel, and I just have an innate and inexplicable preference for them. hmmm. BUT I also have the bonus of knowing that I'm not contributing 40 black sacks worth of non-biodegradable, poo coated rubbish to the landfills.

Welcome to the world of cloth Tree it's a great place to be (and so is MN) you've done it now - you can check in but you can't check out mwahahaha.... (evil)

TheLadyEvenstar · 21/11/2008 13:59

2 large bumhuggers for sale if anyone is interested!!

babyjjbaby · 21/11/2008 15:37

lollipop have u got pics of boosters

lollipopmother · 21/11/2008 15:58

BBM - It's funny you should say about a medium quick flip because i've just got them down for Treedelivery and I swear one is bigger than the other. I have no idea why I would've bought a medium though and none of the labels have sizes. How about I send it to you and if it's too small then you could send it back and I'll sort out reimbursing your postage? It's a white one, been well used by the looks of it but would still do the job, I bought it pre-loved and never used it.

Treedelivery - The advert was for anyone hun, you don't need to be an MN regular to join our gang! I would think the Kissaluvs would be great for a hard water area, it's exactly why I bought them but my DD is still too little for them and I've got so many other nappies now that it seems a shame to try them and spoil them. They are made of a fleecy fabric and are extremely soft.

Just so you know what you're buying there are some pics for you to look at here

Rusmum - I'm here!

AnnVan - God, that took ages for the Bumhugger to get to you! I hope it's worth it!

lollipopmother · 21/11/2008 16:10

Baby - I've got two types now actually, pictures are on here, one type is Motherease cotton for Sandy's and will add an extra 170mls to the absorbency, the other is an hour-glass shaped unbleached terry with a white fleece top, I think it's a Tots Bots.
