In my second year, and planning on being organised this year with working towards essays etc (as in not completing it the night before!).

So, I've got an essay to be in on the 17th November, and started to work on it today.

Anyone else wanna join in this thread? Either for a moan, if your stressing about it, or just for a kick up the arse?

how many words do you need to do christmas fairy?

why is it i can distract myself so beautifully when i'm trying to work from home- i had my new washer delivered this morning, i spent the morning cleaning before washer arrived then i plumbed it all in etc. and have done a few loads and none of the study i was meant to do whilst the washer was on. i've even been to asda and back and still no books even brought through from bedroom to table let alone opened-
motivate me please someone!!

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 08/12/2008 18:02

1200 words...and it is just not coming together...I keep rewriting it all...I am driving myself bonkers and am so fed up...
my problem is that basically I don't really understand this one...
it's an reflective essay , reflecting on the process of creating our exhibition piece (MY occupational journey)....
We are meant to use one reflective model for reflection and are meant to back it all up....and that is where I just can't get to grips with this....I mean, it is so frustrating to really know what you want to write, but unless you can't find material to back it up, you can't write it in....
arghhhhhhhhhhh
tbh, I jsut want to sit in a corner and rock right now....sigh...and those Kids will be blardy throttled if they don't stop fighting and creating....sigh.....why did I ever think going to University would be a good idea....

dylsmum1998 · 08/12/2008 18:10

ah hang in there hun, i hate those kind of essays. it'll fall into place eventually

did you finish ok?

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 09/12/2008 15:31

well...I have 972 words so far, and think I might end up having to cut some bits out in the end, otherwise there won't be an intro or conlusion, lol....

it's all bollox , but am past caring, lol....

winemakesmummyclever · 10/12/2008 22:35

Hi guys,

sorry for falling off the thread for a wee while. I have been busy trying (and failing) to get an assignment done. 1500 words on e-government in relation to older people info needs for Monday. Sounds easy but just cannot be bothered. Need a good kick from you guys

Was meant to crack on with it today, but dh has been off and has driven me bonkers with moving his desk and associated crap out of our shared study/soon to be nursery.

Have managed to do a bit tonight but nowhere near anything I could hand in yet. Ho hum.....it will come together in some shape or form eventually.

XmasFairy - how have you got on with yours? Hate reflective pieces myself, so can understand your frustration. Hope it has begun to flow better for you and it will soon be out of the way.

dylsmum - typical procrastinatory behaviour that would not be out of place in this house (applies to both me and dh . Hope the new washer is fab (though not as good as someone else taking away your laundry and doing it for you eh?)

lollipop - I prefer the Harvard system to Numeric, though referencing in general is a PITA. I have started to keep a piece of paper to one side and write down refs as I use them in an essay, or copying web addresses etc to a word doc that will eventually become my reference page in the final draft. It's a bit anal I know, but it means I don't have to spend hours chasing up lost/forgotten/incorrect references when I could have finished the bloody thing.

Oh well, have just snuggled into bed and am going to read a wee bit of Pratchett to relax my stressed brain. Hoping my mum can have ds for a couple of hours tomorrow so I can get a bit further along.

Good luck to everyone else and hope things get finished soon.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 10/12/2008 22:56

wine...that is what I do....i.e. write the refernces harward style into word doc as I use them....still pita isn't it!

Well both assignments all ready to be handed in tomorrow....lovely next door neighbour proof read and stuff....and thinks it's fine....so...hopefully I will at least pass, lol....he is a ex-special needs teacher and did his degree as a mature student...so...he understands....

Anyways hope you get your kiddo carted off to your mum for a bit tomorrow and get some more done

mulledwinemakesmummyfestive · 11/12/2008 09:21

xmasfairy - well done on getting them both done. Hope you have got a bit of time to kick back and relax now.

Think I have been trying to fit too much into this teeny tiny essay and that has caused me to overload my brain! Took dh's advice yesterday and got my basic ideas down on paper and can hoepfully "clever it up" (as he said) a bit when have have a decent base to work with.

Am being hassled to paint with ds.....better go, glitter and glue beckon (good job I haven't hoovered yet today )

jofeb04 · 11/12/2008 21:23

Sorry I havent been on here recently!

I've had no essays to be done so had a week off

But, I've got two exams to revise for, and my next essay is in January 19th but would like to get most of that done next week.

Had a C10 for my first essay (was psychology), but with lots of easier points to remember on my next essay (better conclusion, better referencing of websites in the text - how do we do that? .... and general stuff like that), I know I can pick my mark up!

Hope everyone else is coping with the parent thing and essays etc!

xmasfairy well done on getting it done
wine hope you get work done

i am very good at procrastinating i have been doing it ever since, i have so far washed the windows, curtains, cleaned the sofa etc etc

and lots of other things so havent done anything on uni since tuesday morning- must get on with it but want to get the decs up tomorrow so doubt i'll pick it up again til monday

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 11/12/2008 23:03

lol...procrastinating is one of those things I have actually been able to make into a fine art, lol...

well, handed the assignments in, and there were loads of us today and we had a nice publunch afterwards...!

Well, when I got home I got all upset, because I realised that I may have not included the reference lists with the leaflet, e-mailed tutor, and she said it's o.k. and just to post them to her...reason why I don't know if I have or haven't is, that I had to reprint so much, because printer faffing about....sigh...
I am just glad that she lets me post it to her...was so worried it would knock down the grade or be a straight fail....so, phew...

am now able to relax and just read some books and stuff...got so many books I have not had the time to read, so, will be nice to read what I ike....sad thing is, they are actually textbooks, lol...
also got to do a learning package before placement and got to have a closer look at my pdp...

how is everyone else getting on?

dylsmum1998 · 12/12/2008 07:09

if procrastination was done as a degree i'd get a very high first!!!

glad you got your assignments in, very good you have such an understanding tutor r.e.e the references

i'm still procrastinating, i have go up before he children, which in my house is very good study time tis so peaceful, and i'm doing housework again, still at least the flat will be glowing before christmas at this rate, i have family round much of christmas so will be good if its not a tip!

but must get some work done too or january is gonna be one mad rush

mulledwinemakesmummyfestive · 12/12/2008 10:12

About 900 words done and notes made for more additions, but suddenly hoovering the hall looks very appealing

Also keep wondering about going into town to see how cheap Woolies are selling everything off. Don't really need anything, just find it hard to pass up possible bargains . Am almost salivating at the thought of cheap pens, pads, paperclips.....I am a stationery whore

mulledwinemakesmummyfestive · 12/12/2008 21:26

Still managed to put off working for most of the morning .

Okay, have about 1600 words now and still have more stuff to put in it. Better to have to cut and be more concise than not to have enough.

Going to treat myself to a glass of wine and then off to bed.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 12/12/2008 21:55

well done you....and yes, glass of wine would be well deserved

mulledwinemakesmummyfestive · 14/12/2008 16:10

Well, it is done. I don't think that I have actually answered the question as set, but ho hum, I have produced something and it is going in. And.......exhale........

Last day at uni before Xmas tomorrow - no real Xmas break as still have loads of other stuff to do for other modules.

Jingle bells eh?

Thankyou1005 · 15/12/2008 12:08

Back to doing some work this week!

Got a psychology exam in january, so want to get the information written down before Christmas, and start to revise it (it is three essay questions, understand general area but don't know exact questions!).

Then got an essay to be in Mid January, and another exam (weekend away) end of January.

mulledwinemakesmummyfestive · 23/12/2008 11:10

Just wanted to pop in and say Merry Christmas to all of you. Hope all goes well and you get a well-deserved festive break

dylsmum1998 · 23/12/2008 12:14

Merry christmas mulledwine and everyone else.
i just got back my marks for the first of my 2 essays already handed in this year. i got 65% which i am very pleased with.
last year i had lots of commentson developing my academic writing style, i spent lots of time reading diff books to try and correct this over summer- and it seems to have paid off!!
i just need to work on critical analysis to move my work up to the next level- just one action given to me by tutor. EXCELLANT.
as you can prob tell i am feeling rather pleased
so will stop rambling and get back to work on the essay i wanted to have finished by last week but due to dc being ill didnt manage!!
