BT you might need to strip the nappies completely. BigBadMousey is the woman to tell you how to do that as I forget the details, but it involves soaking overnight in vinegar solution, then washing in bio pawder, then rinsing until no more soapy suds are seen. I think there might be a final vinegar rinse, but that might be over-egging the pudding somewhat

Will try to find a link for you

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2008 18:37

how did you get on yesterday Knickers?

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2008 18:44

Here you go BT.....

There are several techniques to strip them but I've nicked this from needaholiday on another thread to save typing

Soak them in white vinegar and cold water (500ml bottle of vinegar and top up the nappy bucket with water) overnight. Then put the whole lot in the washer, do a prerinse on cold, wash hot with a full dose of biological detergent. rinse two times with warm or cold water to shift the detergent and the nappies should smell ok.

I think maybe getting her used to cloth in the day before using cloth at night might be a good idea. Even when my DD is in cloth (which isn't very often due to the state of her bum) during the day, we always use a disposable at night.

MatNanPlus · 27/08/2008 19:09

I take it you have more nappy rash with cloth LADC? we have the opposite.

The neals yard barrier cream is good if you haven't tried it?

isaidno · 27/08/2008 19:13

Superdrug does a good barrier balm. It is made by mother goose and is olive oil based. My dd has a lovely bum!

Don't know if anybody's raised this (sorry, can't be bothered to read the whole thread) but does anyone know where to get nappy liners from. My local Boots & Mothercare tell me there's a supply problem, and they can't get any. I'm rapidly running low. Thanks for any info people can give me.

MatNanPlus · 27/08/2008 19:35

Kiddicare HTH's Jeee

MatNanPlus · 27/08/2008 19:36

I like the natural ones KOMH like Waitrose, Neals Yard, the Superdrug one sounds nice as i use olive oil for skin and scalp

JoyS · 27/08/2008 19:40

The weleda nappy cream is really nice too.

jeee · 27/08/2008 19:41

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm fantastically mean, and don't really want to use disposables when I have reusables (used for all 4 DC).

AnnVan - my bamboos haven't gone crunchy at all; I mostly dry them on the airer or washing line. They are softer if I finish them off in the dryer though.

BigBadMousey · 27/08/2008 20:00

AnnVann - yes, quite likely to go crunchy I'm afraid.

update on solving smelly (clean) nappies

I've done some experimenting with a stash I was given that honked very badly and this methid worked best

Soak your clean nappies in white (malt) vinegar and cold water (500ml bottle of vinegar and top up the nappy bucket with water) overnight. Then put the whole lot in the washer, do a prerinse on cold, wash warm (30 or 40C) with a full dose of biological detergent. Rinse two times with warm or cold water to shift the detergent.

BigBadMousey · 27/08/2008 20:01

The heat from the radiator will cook and possibly fuse the nappies - line drying is fine (recommended for cloth), cool tumble is OK for some/most bamboo nappies - best check the label.

MatNanPlus · 27/08/2008 20:10

What about pegging them on one of those clip on rad airers with a towel over the radiator face to reduce direct heat?
