mrsbigpants, what temperature do you wash at? I found that my bamboo nappies smelt at anything under 60 degrees but 60 degrees got rid of the smell completely.

mrsbigpants · 15/09/2008 21:03

I wash at 40, MrsJ. Will try the next one at 60 degrees and see what happens! Thank you.

Evening all! This is a busy thread!!
AnnVan any news? She's disappeared - so having a baby I hope???

As people are hawking their wares here, can I offer up some Modern Baby old style nappies and wraps? Anyone interested? They're in mint condition.

BigBadMousey · 15/09/2008 21:33

babyjjbaby - I found you some little ewes hidden on the for sale board! I started a thread just for and everything . Have a look at the threads on the nappy topic - I posted a link.

Hoping all went swimmingly for AnnVan and she is far too busy giving cuddles to think of us. I tried to log on the MN at the hospital but it was a blocked site - probably far to many references to fanjos to get through the filters

babyjjbaby · 15/09/2008 21:37

oh thanks i will try and find the post lol

BigBadMousey · 15/09/2008 21:46

BigBadMousey · 15/09/2008 22:07

Not my listing but it looks like she still has them. I spotted them while I was aimlessly browsing the for sale board (dangerous practice!)

babyjjbaby · 15/09/2008 22:09

BigBadMousey · 15/09/2008 22:24

born2twinkle · 16/09/2008 09:34

Hi I'm new to this thread, I'm 34 weeks now and cant wait for payday at end of month so i can go and buy my real nappies. I notice there a a few folk on her from south yorks, i'm in Barnsley, I used tots bots for my son who is now 4 but have sold them all so now i'm starting afresh. Like look of little lambs microfibre as they are cheap, do they dry really fast (no tumble dryer here)?

I just wanted to say hi to everyone, my dd is currently sitting next to me in her first real nappy!
Her bum really does look big, I think it's going to take sometime getting used to! Bless her.......

BigBadMousey · 16/09/2008 16:59

born2twinkle - Of all the microfibre nappies Little Lamb are one of the better options. They aren't too bulky compared to other brands. They do dry very quickly. Don't use the little lamb wraps though - Motherease airflow (popper fit) or Rikki (velcro fit) are much more reliable - of the two I prefer the airflow as it is independantly adjustable around the legs and waist and far less bulky around the tummy (important if you aleady have a velcro band on the nappy underneath).

thepuddingchef welcome to the world of cloth . You get used to the big bottomed look quite quickly. My DCs look emaciated to me when I put them in a disposable - and their bottoms feel so boney! . Some nappies are way too bulky IMO - what are you using.

Mrsbigpants - Don't use loo papaer as a liner - you'll end up with mush. 'Flushable' liners are designed not to disintergrate when wet but some are certainly not as flushable as they make them out to be! I tend to use fleece liners which I love but when I do use paper ones I only ever flush the dirty ones - the wet ones go in the bin or compost bin (although, if I'm honest many go through the wash first if I don't remember to take them out before the nappy goes in the nappy bucket). Do you still need to get rid of your ammonia smell? What nappies are you using?

Knickers - what do you want in a night nappy? I heart bumhuggers - they are fantastic but no good if you want something quick drying. Never found NB to be very reliable I'm afraid . I also use a lollipop fleece pocket

babyjjbaby · 16/09/2008 17:02

that demo sounds fun lol

Thepuddingchef · 16/09/2008 17:46

I wish I had gone to a demo, it's taken me ages to get organised.....
I have a small collection - dd was in a kissaluv (which I got this morning thank you ilovemydog) I also have a motherease one size which does seem too huge, and 2 fluffles.
I have heard sandys are a good choice, might try one of those to see if I like them.

sunflower78 · 16/09/2008 18:27

haven't seen annvan & lollipop - babies?!?

anyone tried baby beehinds wraps? looking for a DP-friendly velcro wrap (I'm using airflow, but he's not too keen on poppers), but rikki and totbots have big tabs and seem to rub on DD's tummy, but these have lower small velcro tabs, but can't find any reviews on them.

babyjjbaby · 16/09/2008 18:33

sorry haven't tried the lol i love motherease wraps but the rikkis cos i don't like poppers lol

born2twinkle · 16/09/2008 20:22

Hi Knickers I'm from Birdwell originally but have lived in town centre (in the thick of it lol) for last 10years. Come on ladies Why are the little lambs wraps rubbish? I have been looking at a pack of 20 napppies ans 10 little lamb wraps. I had some rikki wraps with my son before, i liked them lots as they fitted him nicely and had funky patterns on.

BigBadMousey · 16/09/2008 20:42

born2twinkle - They aren't rubbish they're just like every other wrap which isn't Motherease. They sometimes leak, the sometimes wick out of the size. That said, they have revamped their wraps a lot over the last two years and they are the best they have ever been.

It's cheaper to get their 20 kit than 20 nappies on their own anyway (right?) so if you want a kit go for it BUT it is a REALLY bad idea to get lots of one type unless you have given it a good test run first. I would really recommend you buy one or two and use them for a while to see if they are as good as you hope before you buy lots. This is especially the case with LL nappies - if you want to sell of any surplus you are unlikely to get your money back because there are often good deals from independant sellers on ebay (LL themselves now have an ebay shop though so maybe they know something I don't).

thepuddingchef sandy's rule. A lovely fit but you'll really need an airflow wrap over them (no bad thing to have anyway - airflows are fab too). Sandy's take a while to dry though...

BigBadMousey · 16/09/2008 21:11

Oh ffs - I just typed a reply with loads of links and MN went down so I lost it when I tried to post ARGH!

Anyway....

Sunflower78 BB wraps - nothing bad to note in the reviews. Seems pretty hit and miss as with many wraps. Reviews can be found if you google australian sites - they are newish in the UK.

Also look at Bummi super-whisper wraps and Kushies wraps. The latter are a bit of a well kept secret and has a bit of a following. Not bad at all - very airflow like but with gussets and velcro - does that make sense ? I Think they are tainted by the bad reputation of the kushies nappies but IME very reliable. They should soften with use - mine hasn't yet but not used it loads. They are cheap too. I know some people who use nothing else so worth a try. Links to both - first and list listingshere

BigBadMousey · 16/09/2008 21:20

Reviews to baby beehind wraps here. From personal experience of the nappies I would think the wraps would be well made but on the small side - the btp nappies are far too small for older toddlers IMO.
