tarry meconium clears after the first few days, not weeks.

KOMH, are those the mothercare smart nappies? I've heard mixed reviews about them, but at that price they are certainly worth a go

Can't remember who was aking about the pop-in nappies, but this is a really good price kit from mothercare as the nappies are about £15 individually.

AnnVan · 03/09/2008 17:12

Lollipop I was due on Saturday. I also have got dispos for first few days until meconium clears through, will then switch to cloth.
Anyone got any good suggestions for baby eviction??

Thanks sunflower - I've had reflexology appointment today. Maybe I'll go for a long walk tomorrow. They don't say how long though, do they?? Difficult with SPD as well, but I'll give it a try.

KOMH - I'm a little nervous about that happening here. Just remind me that I have forked out the money or cloth, I can't afford to spend the money on disposables on top o that!

Daisy the pop-in pack is available direct from them but with 10% discount for mumsnet users!

On meconium, I was really worried about this and ready for all eventualities... as it was, DS did it immediately after being weighed, and I was waiting to go to theatre (another story which I will relate when everybody has had their babies but actually the birth was just fine, 1st baby, no forceps/ventouse/etc, just a fab epidural!). Anyhow DH cleared it up with the help of a nurse, and it didn't happen again. That was it on the meconium front.

In case it helps people! In my case, I had huggies, but I could have just used the free nappies I got in bounty packs etc until I got back from hospital.

AnnVan · 03/09/2008 23:37

Ok people, call me fickle, but I've started having some twinges, and it's making me think 'what am I doing, I don't want a baby?' Guess I'm just having a major wobble.

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 23:49

ooh, annvan, how exciting .

Do you think this is it?

those sorts of wobbles are natural and it finally sinks in that bub is coming out and it's gonna hurt.

Get some rest while (and if) you can and Good Luck

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 00:02

I don't think I'll be popping baby out in the next few hours, but at least it feels like things are starting to warm up.
Never planned on having kids, so all the way through I've been having wobbles about it. I'm sure it will befine once bub arrives

sunflower78 · 04/09/2008 10:13

AnnVan, good luck, I'm still here after 24 hrs of on-off contractions...

Re nappies, I just bought 2 small packs of dispos and don't intend to buy anymore, also got size 1 and 2, so they will be used very early on (only wanted one, but when I bought the first one at boots they didn't have their free changing bag in stock so had to go back and get another one, which I could have spared as the bag is such a disappointment compared to the one they used to have...), and I also keep on reminding myself 1) Ive spent a lot of money, 2) there's so many pretty ones I'd like to get, so if I use dispos I won't have the excuse!!!

lollipopmother · 04/09/2008 10:22

AnnVan - Wobbles like that are definitely normal, I had a freak-out a couple of weeks ago because it suddenly dawned on me that it wouldn't be just me and my DP anymore, and that actually, I rather like it being just me and DP! DP is the one that hasn't had any sort of wobbles, although he said last night that he thinks he might freak-out once we bring the baby home and he can actually see her making a difference, I know I'm going to be the same! Do make sure you pop into this or the are we there yet thread to say when you're finally off to the hospital!

Sunflower - Safe for you eh, make sure you pop in and say you're off, it can't be long now!

I have bought 3 packs of dispos, but they were small packs. I heard approx 8 nappies a day - I don't think I've even got a weeks worth of them, so hopefully the miconium will stop quite quickly. I know I won't get stuck using dispos because it's been killing me having all these real nappies and no one to put them on, they are just so lush!!

lollipopmother · 04/09/2008 10:23

Argh - Safe = SAME!

sunflower78 · 04/09/2008 10:31

lollipop - me too, they're all displayed on the cabinet by the crib in our bedroom, so I see them constantly, well, I've covered them so they won't get dusty (Had the crib ready now for 4 weeks cos I was convinced this was going to be early ) and have bookmarked so many sites of so many I'd like to get... so hurry up baby (?) (god, still haven't picked the name from the 4 shortlisted months ago!!! ). Just washing and old fleece blanket I'd already cut for DS when he was little, so I can cut my fleece liners. not sure about size, guess I'll try a few smaller and a few bigger ones...

lollipopmother · 04/09/2008 11:21

Sunflower - I have no idea what sort of size wipes normally come in, but I have made some that are about the size of my hand, and I've made them in to a mitt, with flannel on one side and fleece on the other. My DP can get most of his hand in them too so he'll be able to use them - I've put some pics up on my profile if you want to see what I mean. I just wish that I had a yellow fleece knocking about because then I could've made them to go with the nursery instead of in blue, but I thought if I was going out buying a fleece specially it was a bit pointless!

sunflower78 · 04/09/2008 12:20

thanks lollipop - what a nice tidy nursery! got the same chair by the way next to crib in my bedroom... our nursery only has a wardrobe + chest for baby, rest is laundry/dumping room, she'll be in our room for now (running out of space very quickly with 4yo's toys and new baby, need to move to a big farm...)

got lots of ikea flannels, still mostly unused from DS, so will have a go at the mitts too (my fleece is baby-blue, and will go in white and yellow bathroom, but my dad built me an over-the-bath wooden changing table with shelf underneath so not bothered about color-coding, though I'm usually so fussy - DP would say nightmare - about it ).

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 12:47

Hello everyone! Well after having crampy pains through most of the early hours, then going to sleep, now having nothing doing again here. Oh well, at least things are warming up!

Lollipop - your wobble sound exactly like one of the wobbles I have. Keep saying to DP - It's not going to be just us anymore. He's been totally calm all the way through this, it's me that's been having wobbles all the way through, he's just taking it all in his stride.
I've got one pack of Dispo's -also bought in Boots to get the free changing bag, which I'm not that keen on. the outer pockets don't fasten or anything. I've seen a nice one on Amazon, that's blue and stripy (my fave colour is blue) so maybe I'll end up getting that.

lollipopmother · 04/09/2008 13:22

AnnVan - How was the reflexology? I've never had it before but was suggested it for my back pain (pre-pg), is it nice and relaxing like a massage? Do you think it has had anything to do with bringing on your cramps?

Those wobbles are def normal, we get so used to our lives pre-baby that giving it up even when you really want to, suddenly becomes so very overwhelming!

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 13:33

Well it's the second time I've had the reflexology. The first appointment I kept getting sick! She said it can happen, but I just had a particularly strong reaction. Yesterday I only felt a little bit sick once during the session. YEsterday's session was quite relaxing actually, and she finished it off with a massage with some essential oil. As to whether or not it kick started my cramps - I'm not sure really, it's so hard to tell with these things, you don't know if it would have started anyway IYSWIM?

lollipopmother · 04/09/2008 14:08

Anyone wanting any Wambamboo they are reduced to £4.99 on this site.

lollipopmother · 04/09/2008 18:28

Oh shit, I am soooo going to be in trouble with DP - I just caved and bought two brand new Fluffles with liners for £11 (includes the p&p). I shouldn't be on here, I should be practicing my sweetest 'but we neeeeed them darling' smile in the mirror!

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 18:32

Hee hee. I want some Fluffles too!

ChairmumMiaow · 04/09/2008 18:49

Can I join in too!? (although I can't catch up 10 pages of posts!)

DS has been in cloth part time from about 6 weeks and full time from about 3 months (although we've just gone back to disposables at night as he can soak 2 fluffles with their insert and a flat foldable nappy thing (can't remember what they're called) during one night )

We use mostly tots bots (terry, bamboozles and fluffles) with a couple of pop-ins (I think they're called) and a couple of nature baby lovables, with popolini wraps. They're so easy and I do have to admit to getting a bit evangelical about them at times - but only when people say silly things about them being hard work/smelly etc.

I'd love to be a nappy advisor (I secretly want to set up a cloth nappy/sling etc website) but we have a very good one locally who has been great for us so I don't want to tread on her toes - plus don't have the cash to set up anything like that.

Aynway, hello!

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 18:57

Hi Miaow and welcome!Sorry - I'm not the most sociable person at the moment, as I am on the countdown to induction with no sign of the little blighter coming out yet so hormonal, grumpy etc.
