LackaDAISYcal · 01/09/2008 20:43

evening, I've been busy getting DS ready for school tomorrow (gives a big cheer )and also out buying a new shower as ours has stopped heating the water. Fine over the summer when I've had the luxury of time to have a bath in the morning, but not if I have to get three of us (soon to be four) out of the door by 8:30 every morning!

I'm now sewing labels into new school clothes....I hate sewing labels in!!

oh, and had to do a mad dash out to Clarks this afternoon to get pumps in a half size as he was able to walk out of the ones I bought a few weeks ago. Talk about last minute.

Back in dispos again today; after 2 days of cloth again, changing every 2 hours, DDs bum is worse than ever . I think it's combined with teething though so not entire;ly the nappies to blame. I've bought some Surcare washing detergent so I'll rewash everything in that and see if it helps any. If we could just get her bum completely clear then we could start with a clean slate and add things in one at a time and see what it is that's triggering it off...

Heartmum2Jamie · 01/09/2008 21:26

Matnanplus it could be that there is alot of fluid, I had it with ds1. They told me he would be 10+lb and he was 8lb 1oz 8 days late, but they flooded the bed when they broke my waters. I will have a much better idea after the scan tomorrow or what I can expect as thankfully it is at a fetal medical centre rather than a local hospital, thet are more specialised. Thank goodness I didn't buy any xs nappies!

Lacks, sorry to hear about your dd, poor love I hope it clears soon. Does she have any allergies that you know of? I only ask because ds2 got the most horrendous weeping nappy rashes which turned out to be caused by a wheat allergy (I am sure you know more about wheat/gluten than most)

LackaDAISYcal · 01/09/2008 21:35

heartmum I'm going to make an appointment at the docs anyway, to get her tested at least for coealiacs (although not sure how accurate a diagnosis is in babies). she gets eczema on the back of her neck a lot as well, and down her thighs and recently at the bottom of her back/top of her bum. She is growing normally though and doesn't have any other coeliac symptoms so I don't think that's it, but then again, I didn't have any symptoms as a baby either.

LackaDAISYcal · 01/09/2008 21:36

good luck with the scan tomorrow heartmum; I must've missed you talking about it on the AN thread

Heartmum2Jamie · 01/09/2008 21:44

Good luck with the dr's Lacks. I hope they can get to the (please excuse the very bad pun) bottom of things. Eczema can also be a sign of allergies, but equally, many teething children can break out, so could be something or nothing. Fingers crossed your dd isn't coealiac. It is hard enough having a ds with a wheat allergy (amongst other things), but he stands a good chance of outgrowing his allergies at some point. Unfortunatelty we get no help with food even though he follows a coeliac diet though.

Thanks for the good luck wishes, I actually haven't been on the AN thread for a few days . It's a case of so many boards, so little time, lol!

Lou222 I've not tried many nappies - in fact only disposables (!), the old-style modern baby ones, and the pop ins. So not an expert, but liking the pop ins.
They do go down quite small. My DS was 6.1 at birth, and although I didn't try them on him at that stage, he's 10lb now and they would go down a fair bit smaller.
Hard to explain without showing, but you put them on the smallest popper setting, and the applix tabs will attach to themselves (each other). (Is that gobbledegook?) I find the leg holes are lovely and snug on DS (but not rubbing because it's soft) and we don't have poo leaks.
We've had a couple of wet leaks. One was at 2am last night and we were too tired to work out why. I had a little one today but a bit of paper liner was sticking out. I think sometimes the soaker scrunches up. Will keep you posted on that! (Or not - it's quite boring).

MatNan: found and bought some of the muslins in Mothercare and they are small!! They'll do for now, though.

LackaDAISYcal · 01/09/2008 22:31

if your doctor agrees to put in his notes that he is to be treated as coeliac, you should be able to get free prescriptions. Have a look on the coeliac UK website and call their helpline; I'm sure you will be entitled to wheat/gluten free food for him.

Essie3 · 01/09/2008 22:34

Lou - you might be able to work it out from the ad at the top.
On the front of the nappy, you have the tabs velcro tabs, sticking onto the furry velcro bit, and two poppers below in the picture.
On the smallest setting, you don't see the two poppers, and the furry velcro strip folds over giving you a flap of the outer fabric (it's fleecy). The tinyest setting = the two velcro tabs one on top of the other.
For Iestyn, the velcro tabs are directly on the outer fabric on the flap.

Essie3 · 01/09/2008 22:34

Oops, Iestyn = my DS!!

lollipopmother · 02/09/2008 07:37

AnnVan - I'm 39+5 today, just ate a whole pineapple, feel thoroughly rough and having stomach cramps but I think that is due to having such a random breakfast and it being at a bizarre time (just gone 4am!).

I bought soapnuts yesterday off the internet. I am pondering the eco-balls. They seem quite expensive but I suppose they aren't as you use them many times.

FrannyandZooey · 02/09/2008 08:57

thanks MatNan
is Napisan not a bit evil?

babyjjbaby · 02/09/2008 09:14

where could i look for new little ewes 60cm sqaure just to get one for now

HolidaysQueen · 02/09/2008 09:44

babyjj - i buy all my stuff from twinkleontheweb.co.uk so worth checking there as she has almost everything you can think of. The problem with websites is that you have to pay postage even for one or two items, but I think she might do free postage for the first order.

sunflower78 · 02/09/2008 09:54

probably a stupid question for the experts, but how long do soapnuts last for? some sites say to use 6-8 per wash, some 4-5, giving you 100 or 130 washes per 1 KG, some say they can be re-used... what's the truth?

MatNanPlus · 02/09/2008 10:38

Daisy what about washing her nappies twice just adding white vinegar no detergent?

Franny Isn't everything, in all honesty it works and i don;t react to it so good to use, i have soap powder issues

Pass S76 not heard of them, with nappies your only meant to use a third of the normal detergent and to be honest if i have pre soaked ones in the wash i don't add ab=ny at all and am liking the white vinegar idea more and more, stain removes and softens and is cheap!!

needaholiday · 02/09/2008 10:51

If you use soapnuts on pale colours or whites make sure you remove them as soon as the wash cycle is finished or you can get lovely brown stains on your washing. They are meant to be very good though.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 10:58

sunflower, you should start a thread in goodhousekeepoing about them. I know a few MNers use them and flame sells them as well.

thanks matnan, I strip them regularly! I'm going to give this surecare stuff a whirl and if that fails then it's probably ecoballs for us.

either that or she stays naked till her skin gets better

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 10:59

and oooooh we are going to hearing the patter of tiny feet very soon......how lovely

the only thing working for me is gaviscon KOMH. I am in real pain with it and have actually brought stuff back up a couple of times (sorry, TMI ), as baby is head up and thinks my stomach is good for practising his headering skills. Got some gaviscon advance tabs fromthe doc, but the double action ones from the chemist taste nicer and seem more effective to me.

No aios sorry, am keeping the pop-ins for the new baby.

wastingmyeducation · 02/09/2008 12:41

How many Little Ewes you after babyjjbaby?

xx

AnnVan · 02/09/2008 13:23

KOMH - my sister swears by charcoal tablets for heartburn. You can get them from places like Holland & Barrett. Apparently the charcoal absorbs the excess acid. I haven't tried it myself - the tablets are big, and I have problems swallowing tablets of any size. But you could give it a try. I'm really suffering with the heartburn, feels like it's going to burn a hole through my throat. Just glugging back bottles of Gaviscon.
