enjoy the calm before the storm AnnVan; I wish I'd appreciated the time I was overdue with DS a little more. Try and do something nice for yourself everyday, even if it's only having a peaceful, coffee and cake in Starbucks or giving yourself a manicure or pedicure (if you can still reach, lol ). You will look back on this free time and envy the luxury of having nothing to do and nowhere to go all too soon

Sorry to butt in, I think DS has nappy rash - for the first time I might add. Just recovering after a 45 min screaming session

Are there any nappy rash creams that work ok with reusable nappies? I have sudocrem but I'm pretty sure that reduces the absorbancy of cloth?

Many coat the cloth MrsJ

Thin layer rubbed in isn't so bad many stain also.

I like Bepanthen and Drapolene

Metanium

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 19:58

Is he teething MrsJ? DS and DD have always had very bad rashes when teething.

I like bepanthen as it seems to improve it's protective qualities with repeated use. In the meantime, lightly beaten egg white dabbed on and allowed to dry in before putting the nappy back on is an old wives remedy that actually works

and don't worry about butting in; anyone who backs up for what I'm saying on contentious issues is always welcome

MrsJamin · 30/08/2008 20:10

Tehe LackaDAISYcal - I've ducked out of that thread as someone obviously has something to prove! I can't be bothered to go through all that stuff linked to either.

DS has been teething for what feels like forever - he's got 8 teeth now at 8 months so I can't imagine why it would make him have nappy rash now. I think perhaps he ate something that disagreed with his bum to be totally honest!

Might try bepanthen tomorrow. I feel a bit guilty at resorting to disposables+sudocrem tonight rather than cloth+bepanthen. Ah well, the amount of disposables I use isn't a drop in the ocean really (just on the odd day around holidays and if the weather's so awful the nappies don't dry either inside or out. DS tugs at disposables, I think he reckons they feel very odd.

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 20:26

She's still at it! I have said we are at cross purposes and am leaving it there, but I saw her on another thread from the other day on much the same topic.

DD takes disposables off unless she is covered up, whereas in a real nappy she will run around happily with no trousers on, so you might have something there. Last Sunday, she managed to undo the tabs of a dispo under her clothes; as a result when she had a poo, it just slid down the leg of her trousers and she was caught by the side of the sofa paddling in it . DH was blaming the cat at first, but cats don't eat carrots; at least mine doesn't

MrsJamin · 30/08/2008 20:36

that's a disgusting but funny story! I just can't imagine it's at all comfortable to wear plastic/paper pants, no wonder they try to take them off! I don't like seeing DS in them, he looks so cool in his cloth

lollipopmother · 30/08/2008 21:56

Matnan - Loving the sound of your wipes, definitely better than mine although my DP is rather impressed at my efforts, he's now affectionately named our wipes 'poo-mitts'!

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 22:29

Yours sound great tho LolM and for messy poopers ideal.

Could sew 2 toether, i have a flannel mit for me and an exfoliating one to, so easy to use.

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 22:30

Put the dispi on backwards

needaholiday · 30/08/2008 22:37

A good cure for nappy rash is butt paste (no joke that is what it is called). In answer to an earlier post about prices- the quick flip is cheapest from the littlekiwi.co.uk website- £5.99 per nappy, £5.99 per wrap, bigger packs work out a little cheaper) They are worth a lot more but the parents behind it have a whole wanting to make shaped cloth affordable for all ethic going on. Can't really go wrong for that price for shaped nappies. The others are all quite expensive comparatively for what you get out of them.
Our wipes are flannels cut in half and sewn up so they don't fray.
Cotton Bottoms wraps are good, prefolds are ok- take a bit of practice to make them poo leak proof but they make handy car wash cloths and potty underneath mats.
Fluffles are soft and fluffy but they're man made fibre and when they get really wet they squeeze the wee back out of.
AV- good luck with your baby!

hello.... wraps for cotton bottom pre folds???????? advice please!!!!! which ones?? where get cheap????? need 3 or 4!!!!!

MatNanPlus · 31/08/2008 10:49

Hi Rusmum i typed a reply last night but it has vanished so will do again.

We use Bambino Mio ao very similar.

Any waterproof wrap that has either velcro/aplix or poppers will work, they need to be good fitting around the legs, waist isn't as important.

Check out the Kiddicare Sale and eBay.

HolidaysQueen · 31/08/2008 11:37

another vote for bepanthen here - cleared up DS's first case of nappy rash really quickly last week. we use fleece liners so i wasn't too worried about the effect on the nappy - if you are using cloth but worried about how the cream affects it then might be worth using liners while you are using cream to stop the cream coming into contact with the nappy.

AnnVan - FWIW, I rarely use cream on DS - only if his bum is looking a little red - and he only got his first dose of nappy rash last week (5 months old) so if you don't use cream all the time i don't think it would be a problem.

HolidaysQueen · 31/08/2008 11:40

rusmum - i used muslin nappies on DS when he was tiny and really liked Popolinoand Motherease Rikki wraps (both velcro fastening) - very snug around the leg and come in cute patterns (particularly the Popolino bugs one!).

rubyrose1 · 31/08/2008 12:51

LackaDAISYcal · 31/08/2008 20:06

what are you after babyjjbaby? I've got some bits and pieces, mostly in size 2. CAT me, or email me on daisybump @ yahoo dot co dot uk

tried to order some butt paste........"due to exceptional demand" UK stocks have run out. The website said they had a new shipment coming in at the beginning of August as well. Must be pretty good stuff

I've just joined Cloth Nappy Addicts, as mentioned by CarGirl on another thread. But...like all other forums apart from MN, I have no idea how it works or anything.

what's the problem with your bamboo nappies rubyrose?
