oh thank you
it is about management of poo once on the nappy
what do you do with newborn poo on a fleece nappy? do you attempt to wash it off before putting in pail? or just leave it?

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 19:03

I used to just leave it and then bung in the pail until washtime as it's difficult to try and get off in any meaningful way, and washes off pretty well. I do a separate rinse programme ahead of the main wash though, or a prewash with no detergent in the prewash drawer. You could always do a rinse in a separate bucket first if you don't like the idea of the poo in the washing machine though.

HolidaysQueen · 29/08/2008 19:16

Franny - I've been rinsing enormous poos down the loo (using the flush and sort of sloshing it around until the worst of it is off) but if they're not so bad just put them straight into the bucket. I then always do a rinse before a wash. Not sure if this is really appropriate - poo down waste water pipe - but it works for me. Once we move to solids (very soon now), I'll be flushing it all down the loo.

Matnan and lackadaisycal - thanks for stain tips. Both really helpful. DS may have pristine nappies and I may feel like SuperMum yet

Franny - I just did a cold rinse (with newborn breastfed poo) before the main 60 degree wash. Now we're weaning (especially with BLW as there's chunks!) I have to plop what I can off into the loo with the help of an old wooden spoon! (sorry if tmi but this is a nappy conversation after all!)

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 19:48

HQ, the pipe from your toilet and that from your washing machine, sink etc all go into the same foul drain in a normal drainage system so it's fine to have pooey water discharging from the washing machine

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 19:50

and MrsJ.....an old knife works much better for poo scraping; just make sure you tell any other DCs what it's for or put it up out of reach

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 19:51

It had been rinsed and wiped by the way; she wasn't eating her own poo

My wipes are edged towelling squares hand size i have cotton bias binding, am in Sicily and it is all handmade so we have hearts, gingham, strips and spots

They do sound jazzy LolliepopMother tho current baby is a 2 cotton wool pads to a poo so very easy to clean. I plan to use same wipe (rinsed) until the poop arrives then into soak and grab a new one.

I rinse it the sink fishing out the bigger bits and chucking into the loo, water trickles into the loo on flush

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 21:57

LOL no surprise there then.

Many thanks will get to admire it in 3 weeks when back in UK temporarily and then bring back to try on current baby.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 22:38

MNP can I be nosey, and ask about your job? You are a maternity nurse, yes? Are you in Sicily because your current family are there for the duration of the summer, or are they there permanently.
Does that mean you are away from home on a full time basis, or is this job a one off and you are usually in the UK? And how long do you work with a family before moving on to another one?

Tell me to mind my own....just realised that is a lot of qestions

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 22:45

He concurs with your description KOMH

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 22:54

"MNP can I be nosey, and ask about your job?"

--You may indeed Daisy

"You are a maternity nurse, yes?"

--Yes, have been for 6yrs and was a ft,sc, live in nanny for 24yrs before that working with newborns to toddlers/pre-school.

"Are you in Sicily because your current family are there for the duration of the summer, or are they there permanently."

--Yes, they are British but working/living here, have been for many years.

"Does that mean you are away from home on a full time basis, or is this job a one off and you are usually in the UK?"

--Alot of the time, yes i am away, this was a 11 wk job that has evolved will have done 21 wks when i return to do an old family for 4 wks then back here again probably till spring next year. Usually UK based tho it has been nice to have 7 days off in a row rather than the 1 day a week, the internet makes it easier as we can see and chat every day. When we met we were older and it works for us, apart we do outr thing, together we are a couple.

"And how long do you work with a family before moving on to another one?"

Depends on the family shortest was 4 days and the longest up till this 1 was 14 weeks working 24/6.

"Tell me to mind my own....just realised that is a lot of qestions "

If you don't ask you won't know, if you want more details then just ask

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 22:54

oops that should be 14yrs not 24yrs

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 23:35

PS.....you're not claire verity are you?

on that note, i'm off to bed.

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 00:18

No, would cheerfully shot her and the other nameless one.

Poor babies

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 07:26

I hope I didn't upset you with that comment MNP

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 11:31

morning everyone

Well DDs bad skin has taken a turn for the worse, in spite of regular nappy changes and just water to wipe her bum. she wanted her nappy off earlier so I took it off and she started scratching at the top of her buttocks and has damaged her skin so much that it's still bleeding over and hour later

We have use steroid creams intermittently since she was 16 weeks old (never more than 3-4 days at a time and with a break of at least two weeks between), but I'm now really worried that they have damaged her skin, as her nails didn't seem sharp enough to merit the amount of damage she has done.

I'll get her to the docs on Monday, but might start a new thread in health in the meantime

sunflower78 · 30/08/2008 11:43

LDC - hope you get it sorted soon, sounds so horrible for the little one...

MatNanPlus · 30/08/2008 12:41

Daisy nope

As to DD, we were told to not wipe sore area but tp spray with shower even for poop as wiping can damage the new forming skin.

Blood vessels are close to the surface and don't take much to break

AnnVan · 30/08/2008 13:31

My weleda nappy cream arrived today! question, will using it affect the absorbancy of the nappies? Should I use it regularly or only when baby gets a sore bottom? I am seriously clueless I know

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 15:12

MNP. Will go easy on her then. It's funny that this is at the top of her buttocks though. I think I need to face the fact that her eczema is getting worse and try and find a reason for it.

AnnVan, provided you are applying a thin layer rather than slathering it all over the place, then you should be OK on a dialy basis. You might want to strip your nappies regularly though to remove any build up

Let me know how you get on with the Weleda stuff.

AnnVan · 30/08/2008 15:59

Thanks Daisy.
Really nothing to do now but wait. Baby has obviously failed to realise that it is fully cooked, and time to come out the oven now.
Now starting to feel prepared as I can be, and all there is to do is await the new arrival. ho hum.
