...get in the way of you when you are in the supermarket dragging around a pram, trolley and fiddly child and then they sneer down at you with their basket full of organic lettuce, baguettes and mini-tampons while your trolley is loaded with nappies, a giant pot of Sudocrem and enough chocolate bars to re-sink the Titanic.

You then have to manoever around them while they continue said sneering.

God you can tell what sort of evening I have had, can't you? And I am embarrassed to admit that I used to be one of those women. I apologise to all you mums out there unreservedly.

Now for chocolate bars and MN......

ilovemydog · 23/08/2008 20:31

quorn taco mince is good

ranting · 23/08/2008 20:31

Yuk, Quorn is the single most revolting food stuff known to man, it tastes how I imagine cat litter would taste!!

expatinscotland · 23/08/2008 20:32

that sounds scrummy, SM. what type of tofu do you use? the Mori-nu block stuff or the stuff in the fridge section?

i freeze it, then thaw it in the fridge, drain it thoroughly and it has the exact quantity of beef mince.

expatinscotland · 23/08/2008 20:33

have you ever tried the Quorn 'chicken pieces', ranting?

they're so minging!

DD1 loved them.

eeewww.

scottishmummy · 23/08/2008 20:34

ambivalent about quorn, kinda think of soylent green quorn is micro-protein grown in big tanks i believe, big industrial petrie dishes

but i do use it despite knowing this

Aitch · 23/08/2008 20:34

i think i am not marinading it, tbh, and that's the problem. lakhsa, which i am almost certainly not spelling (or indeed cooking) authentically, is a coconut milk and rice noodle soup that will blow your head off and is brilliant for heading off a cold. yer usual thai spicing, i use some of my little pot of red curry sauce and add some lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and lime juice. maybe some coriander... sounds not unlike your tofu marinade tbh.

expatinscotland · 23/08/2008 20:36

oh, it definitely needs marinating. overnight, preferably.

scottishmummy · 23/08/2008 20:37

i use any ole tofu i can find.god aye marinade or it is bland.or buy the marinated tofu

Aitch · 23/08/2008 20:38

someone told me to get smoked stuff... didn't much like it. in the sense that i'm happier without it in a stir fry. texture, i think.

ranting · 23/08/2008 20:38

Ohh no Expat, SIL has cooked me a couple of Quorn mince thingys and I was smiling a lovely fake smile the entire time, and saying 'MMM lovely'. It was bleurgh and she is a really good cook, so it's not her.

Aitch · 23/08/2008 20:39

those quorn chicken pieces are unbelievably bad, have never ventured beyond. did use tvp when i was a skint student, though, thought it was fine tbh.

scottishmummy · 23/08/2008 20:39

fridge tofu only!i dont use the stuff in cartons it is rank

expatinscotland · 23/08/2008 20:39

Uggghh, ranting. It's shocking, that Quorn.

You can marinade tofu in just about anything - a jar of bolognese sauce and then cook like mince. BBQ sauce. A jar of salsa verde and cook like mince and serve in tortillas.

ranting · 23/08/2008 20:39

Tofu fine and yes marinated, I agree. I love laksa, lovely stuff!!

Janni · 23/08/2008 20:53

This is such a random thread I think it's OK to post here what I heard today on my last (thank God) day of a cold, wet week by the sea...

In the ladies' toilets of the social club at our caravan site, a little girl and her mum were using the loo. The little girl said 'ooh mummy, it's smelly in here and the mum replied 'yes, it's disgusting. People should use their own toilet, not communal ones, when they need a poo!'

Sorry - carry on with the chat about tofu

Aitch · 23/08/2008 20:57

should they? mind you, i do prefer not to have a poo at other people's houses if at all possible.

expatinscotland · 23/08/2008 20:58

Janni! I'm so offended by that post.

I was trying to eat here .

zippitippitoes · 23/08/2008 21:01

that ad where the sub sub sex and city pretend look a like women discuss thier bloating always makes me think of quorn

i never has this blaoting thing for which i need to carry something in my handbag

but quorn does have that effect i am sure it expands inside you with little mycrocelium tendricles

cure never btouch it

Aitch · 23/08/2008 21:02

moussakka was nice enough. not enough cinnamon, too much white sauce, mince ground too finely, not as good as mine, naturellement, but good for a saturday night off cooking. syrup pudding coming up...

scottishmummy · 23/08/2008 21:05

bloating is that a euphemism for straining to pass wind?

ilovemydog · 23/08/2008 21:06

But how does one cook tofu like mince? I cannot get over the texture....
