Why are things always ruined by uncivilsed people?

My DH has two weeks off work so started taking DS to a pre-school group last week. He started on the monday and DH said a couple of kids were mean to him, pushing him away from toys and ganging up on him.

On wednesday on the way there two boys ran up behind DS and started saying "woooo!" and putting their hands up like ghosts. DS got all upset and hid behind DH and apparantly DH and the kids mothers just laughed it off although DH was secretely annoyed that they didn't tell their kids off.
Thursday it happened again and DS went into the group crying his eyes out because of the ghost things on the way there so as they were walking home DH asked the women if they could have a word with their kids about scaring DS as its started to put him off the group. They apparantly grinned at each other but agreed

Anyway on Friday they were on their way there and apparantly as the women walked past DH they said "woooo!" in his ear and burst out laughing to each other DH burst out crying and they ended up coming home early and now both are saying they don't want to go anymore.

I'm so annoyed that a group of thugs are spoiling this for them. DH doesn't get much time off work as it is.

I'm debating whether I should take DS tomorow and tell the women to leave DS and DH alone or would this make it worse??? either way I don't want them to stop going, why should they?

Perhaps you DC is learning how to act from his dear father.

PlasterCaster · 03/08/2008 18:39

DH has had a very bad few months. It obviously wouldn't have just been that making him cry, its a combination of things but those women obviously thought it was the noises that made him cry. Thats probably why he doesn't want to go back because he's a bit embarrassed.

Your DS was upset so DH should have helped him and sorted it out, not sat a boo-hooed with him.

Again sorry about boo-hoo.

kids cry and get upset

and then they upset other children

and the world keeps turning

Pennies · 03/08/2008 18:40

The kids crying would cause a more measured response. Surely you can see that a grown man being reduced to tears by these is just a bit pathetic? That is why you're getting the responses that you are.

ruddynorah · 03/08/2008 18:40

please tell us how the women made your dh jump...please...

PlasterCaster · 03/08/2008 18:41

So if your kids were being bullied you'd just say "soz kid, shit happens but the world keeps turning?"

On thursday DH did sit down with DS to explain how to handle the situation. Things just got on top of him on friday. Obviously other things aside this.

agree lulu.

getting upset over a few ghost noises isn't genuine upset. Yes it can be distressing for the child at the time but it was only a couple of noises.

If it was my ds he would have been told that it was just silly children making silly noises and to pay no attention.

RusselBrussel · 03/08/2008 18:41

Is this for real?

Your dh sounds a bit 'limp' to be honest. And now he has got upset in front of those women they will make your ds a target even more.

Your dh should have firmly but nicely asked the boys to leave your ds alone. He should then also have given your ds strategies to cope with this, as in making ghost noises back, or walking off.

Your dh does sound a bit of a wet blanket tbh
They are both saying they don't want to go anymore?? What is your dh, a man or a mouse????

PlasterCaster · 03/08/2008 18:42

She crept up behind him and shouted the wooo thing in his ear. He apparantly dropped his can and everyone turned around. He gets embarrassed easily.

no. Children making ghost noises is not bullying.

It isn't.

You are turning your child into a victim.

And your dh isn't helping by crying. over ghost noises.

CaptFabioHiltsCatInTheCooler · 03/08/2008 18:43

I think you would get more sympathy if you told us what dh's troubles are. Because at the moment we think he's Walter the Softy and has been traumatised by Minnie the Minx.

RusselBrussel · 03/08/2008 18:43

okay, just read latest messages. Your dh has other worries. But even so, ghost noises is just what young boys do. It is something your ds will have to get used to. Soon he will be confident one making the scary noises

PlasterCaster · 03/08/2008 18:43

Isn't the real issue the fact that these women and their kids victimised DH and DS for no apparent reason rather than DH being a bit soft??

He needs to go back with Yvette Fielding.

wannaBe · 03/08/2008 18:44

his can? at a preschool?

No this is just all a load of bollocks really isn't it?

trippity trap.

CaptFabioHiltsCatInTheCooler · 03/08/2008 18:45

Does your dh have a dad or a big brother who can intervene?

lulumama · 03/08/2008 18:45

it is not victimisation, and it is not bullying, it is something that 99.99 % of parents would shrug off, or jump up and do a scary ghost noise back and engage with the other hcildren and parents

MrsWeasley · 03/08/2008 18:45

dropped his can of what?

River Water from under the bridge maybe??

PlasterCaster · 03/08/2008 18:45

Well his job is uncertain, that is obviously a big worry at the moment. His hamster died last weekend and his father is ill. It just seems to be everything at once. I think he should see a doctor but he's afraid they'll put him on anti-ds.

PMSL

tiredemma · 03/08/2008 18:46

Oh you are joking.

" his hamster died"

Come on- you are trolling, no???

muggglewump · 03/08/2008 18:46

Your DH cried over a couple of 5yr olds mnaking ghost noises?
I'm sure it's inappropriate to snigger but I am anyway.
Can't he (when he stops blubbing of course) engage your DS in the fun, explain why it's fun and get him joining in?
They are not thugs or bullies, they are children having fun. The world doesn't revolve around your wimpy sensitive family

PlasterCaster · 03/08/2008 18:46

For gods sake it was a coke can! you're all very quick to assume the worst. The weather was hot, he's allowed to bloody drink.

CaptFabioHiltsCatInTheCooler · 03/08/2008 18:47

OMG

I feel like such a bitch.

I had no idea about the hamster.

I'm tirribly sorry.

Poor dead hammy.
