Adults are so boring (Halloween)

FierceFireFairy · Yesterday 17:15

So at a kids party for my sons football group, kids are 4-8 years old. Adults were encouraged to dress up so I've come as a cat, not one adult (apart from the coaches) have dressed up.
This is when I wish I was in America where everyone who does Halloween does it properly, the UK is so nervous about looking silly its so sad. I miss getting dressed up we used to do it every year in my 20's, all my friends are so boring now too.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

This! I find so many parents so boring. Everyone is so polite and generic. It’s like a lot of people lose themselves once they become parents.

BlueBayBic · Yesterday 17:21

I have no interest in dressing up for Halloween, and it’s got nothing to do with being “nervous to look silly”

Are you a parent?

Unfortunately

listen most parents are lovely but a lot of people become constrained and generic once they become parents or hit a certain age and deep down I don’t think they need to be.

Let me guess though… you have managed to remain a sparkling exciting bonanza of a person despite being a parent

I have really no interest, time, or desire to dress up for a kids party. I am not remotely bothered by the idea of looking silly. My children wouldn’t be interested that I had, or else I might well do. But if I don’t want to, my kids don’t want me to, why on earth would I?

I try!

Being silly is fun! I work with kids too so have to keep a sense of humour.

when I became a mum I started dressing really mumsy and being like all the other mums but now I’m like no, I’m going to try to go back to the girl I was before these kids come along.

not everyone thinks like this of course.

and I was being sarcastic in my first reply, I don’t actually think most parents boring. They’re just adults being adults.

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 17:32

I grew up in America and nope I will not be dressing up for Halloween and if it was a requirement for attending a party I would not go. I love Halloween and have about 200 kids come to my door every year but it’s for them to dress up. Most I would do is wear a witch’s hat.

Comeondoreen · Yesterday 17:33

@cavewoman2026 why do you think other people don’t think like that? I have never, ever felt the type of clothes I wear define me as a person, and I didn’t change what clothes I like after having children. I can’t imagine why the clothes I wear would make me fun or not fun.

I was joking. Clothing doesn’t define a person obviously.

OhBettyCalmDown · Yesterday 17:34

For some it will be about not looking silly. Others will just hate dressing up in general, have no money, have forgotten, have no time to sort something etc.

Ive got one at a Halloween disco, one at fright night, trick or treating with all the cousins tomorrow. Not to mention all the other things that go on of a weekend generally. Fuck trying to find an outfit for me to wear to football/rugby/brownies too half of my normal clothes don’t fit as it is 😂

Its lovely when people get involved and to all the parents that do I salute you but for now I’m just trying to get through the week

SabreIsMyFave · Yesterday 17:35

My DC are 30-ish and haven't lived at home for about 10 years, and I am in my late 50s, and I still dress up for Halloween. Got the house decorated/ outside, and all the windows full of Halloween stuff! 5 or 6 pumpkins, and 3 sets of orange lights too. Smile

I will be in full witch costume tomorrow and have lots of treats for the children in the village. Usually get about 16-17 lots of them - in groups of 2 to 5. They're very well behaved!

I have 2 friends who live near me, who also dress up, and them and I will be doing apple bobbing, Zombie Tag, and Pumpkin Bowling, with some of the children at about 3.00pm before it gets dark, and before Trick or Treat starts.

Can you tell I love Halloween?! Grin

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · Yesterday 17:35

I’m currently at work in a cobweb skirt.

Not everyone is boring…

Rockpunkdisco · Yesterday 17:35

I used to get dressed up in costume when younger, but a lot didn't. Always fun to take on a different character for a night!

Do you? Given the thread you started 2 mins ago would indicate you are in a very very different place

What happens externally is very different to what is happening internally.

Must be
So you’re saying that you fake it
and other parents are boring and generic
but you fake not being boring and generic
Right

MaeshoweDragon · Yesterday 17:41

You can be boring no matter what you are wearing.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · Yesterday 17:41

A look around a few Christmas parties will probably persuade you that many British adults don’t actually care about looking silly. Paper crowns, novelty glasses, reindeer antlers, Santa hats, Christmas jumpers, women with hair in bunches decorated with tinsel - even the occasional elf costume…

We just don’t tend to celebrate Halloween with as much enthusiasm.

SnowflakesandSlippers · Yesterday 17:57

I'll happily be boring about Halloween, but I'm counting the days until I can start wearing my fabulous Christmas jumpers!

FionnulaTheCooler · Yesterday 18:00

We had a dress down day at work today, some people came in full Halloween outfits, some in Halloween themed clothing (I wore a Halloween sweatshirt) and some just in their normal clothes. Each to their own, I wouldn't have gone and bought something specially if I didn't already have it though.

HoppityBun · Yesterday 18:05

I wish I was in America where everyone who does Halloween does it properly,

does what “properly”? Do you even know what the word Halloween means? What, exactly, do you think you’re celebrating?
