Adults are so boring (Halloween)

FierceFireFairy · Yesterday 17:15

So at a kids party for my sons football group, kids are 4-8 years old. Adults were encouraged to dress up so I've come as a cat, not one adult (apart from the coaches) have dressed up.
This is when I wish I was in America where everyone who does Halloween does it properly, the UK is so nervous about looking silly its so sad. I miss getting dressed up we used to do it every year in my 20's, all my friends are so boring now too.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Do you? Given the thread you started 2 mins ago would indicate you are in a very very different place

What a fecking horribly bitchy to write. I hope no one in RL relies on you to be pleasant.

@cavewoman2026 why do you think other people don’t think like that? I have never, ever felt the type of clothes I wear define me as a person, and I didn’t change what clothes I like after having children. I can’t imagine why the clothes I wear would make me fun or not fun.

Maybe not completely define a person but the clothes you wear are a huge part of your identity. People choose clothes based on how they want others to perceive them. Otherwise we’d all just wear practical black tracksuits or something. I think the clothes I wear represent who I am. Eg. I’d never wear a floral or frilly dress, cos to me that represents girliness and delicate femininity and that’s definitely not who I am. Other women may choose to wear an outfit like that cos that’s who they feel they are and they want to express that to others. Clothes are all about self-expression. As for changing the way you dress after having kids, personally I didn’t change the way I dress but I guess some women who do, do so either because they feel they should dress more ‘mumsy’ cos that’s what society expects from mothers (which i personally think is ridiculous, sexist and outdated but each to their own I guess). Or they’re personality changes - they become more ‘boring’ - something I’ve noticed among so women I know. Then they start dressing to reflect who they are (the new version of them) I guess

I love dressing up! The more OTT, the better! I love costumes, I love make up but I hate Halloween and think it’s become over-commercialised Americanised drivel.

So, that’s why I don’t dress up. Nothing to do with being a parent 🙄

Just because someone doesn’t enjoy what you do it doesn’t make them boring. That’s a pretty self centred view to take.
And btw it isn’t what you wear that makes you an interesting person

I’m always up for a good time and a laugh but I hate dressing up! I would refuse too join in too, I can’t see the point of wasting the very little money I have on a costume to wear once a year. Maybe if I had tonnes of disposable income it would be different.

I wish I was in America where everyone who does Halloween does it properly,

does what “properly”? Do you even know what the word Halloween means? What, exactly, do you think you’re celebrating?

This! What on earth is it all about or for? Driving to my daughter’s yesterday I was shocked at the utter waste and piles of tat in people’s gardens. What do people do with all that crap plastic and cheap lights they’ve bought from china for a few days? I sincerely hope they don’t chuck it all in landfill and buy it all again next year!

cinnamonbunnies · Today 09:50

I don’t like Halloween but I work with small kids so yesterday I went to work at 6 am as a crow. My colleagues were dressed as a taco and one was an orange crayola crayon.

What on earth are you even doing here? Just go and do something else rather than bitching about people posting on a chat forum.

I think the reason not to dress up for many is that it’s just another thing on your plate. I always spent a lot of time on elaborate costumes, but since I had my child, life is just more busy. I still do a little costume thingy for Halloween, but this year it’s just a funny hat because I had to prioritise other things.

I would dress up for an adults party but not a kids party

This!
Its for children
Cant bear these " look at meeeee" parents who make themselves central to any childrens event

And now I see what you mean. Fuck what a truly nasty person you are @Trippom.

Was it a tight, “sexy” cat outfit you went to the kids party in, OP?

(There will be a million “sexy” zombie brides, fairies, nurses or witches trailing about tomorrow night. Pretending to be really fun and cool whilst also confirming to patriarchal beauty standards is, of course, tradition.

Yes are you Amanda from Motherland? I love that episode 🤣
