Adults are so boring (Halloween)

FierceFireFairy · Yesterday 17:15

So at a kids party for my sons football group, kids are 4-8 years old. Adults were encouraged to dress up so I've come as a cat, not one adult (apart from the coaches) have dressed up.
This is when I wish I was in America where everyone who does Halloween does it properly, the UK is so nervous about looking silly its so sad. I miss getting dressed up we used to do it every year in my 20's, all my friends are so boring now too.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Most people have stuff to do outside of chaperoning their children at a sports Halloween event, they aren’t rushing home from work to dress up as a cat for a kids party.

Seziah · Yesterday 18:15

I would dress up for an adults party but not a kids party

AmethystDeceiver · Yesterday 18:19

I'm boring but I'd dress up! A lot of the parents I know would, and my friends would too. And DH.

Despite dressing up when required, we are all still fairly boring adults living boring adults lives 😜

We dress up for house parties with the kids. The kids go off and play we all stand around drinking wine and eating crisps. It’s great fun! A couple of people don’t dress up, but they’re definitely not boring!

Wearing a costume doesnt necessarily make you infinitely more exciting or interesting, it means you bought/made/borrowed a costume....

I have really no interest, time, or desire to dress up for a kids party. I am not remotely bothered by the idea of looking silly. My children wouldn’t be interested that I had, or else I might well do. But if I don’t want to, my kids don’t want me to, why on earth would I?

Yup, this.

Plus, as others have said, most people are just trying to make it through the week.
At any one time, I would be likely to be on a really tight schedule to get different dc to different places, around work and my own life too. The concept of expecting parents to start finding costumes for themselves, to chauffeur their dc about in, is just bizarre.

nah, I'd have dressed up op, so would one of my sisters but not the other. I always do low key dress up for trick and treat too

Halloween is a horrible American event. Nobody should dress up adult or child and trick or treating should be banned.

Aussiesgettingsmashed · Yesterday 18:31

You should go for a night out at the Darts loads of people in fancy dress.

Topseyt123 · Yesterday 18:37

I couldn't give a shit whether I look silly or not. I also have, and always had, zero interest in dressing up/fancy dress for any event at all. Not for children's or adult parties.

In fact, I am generally a happily paid up member of the "Boring Old Farts Club."

I don't like dressing up, but my dog loves it. Has rosettes for Rugby, poppies for Remembrance, Reindeer horns etc. I let him enjoy it.

crackofdoom · Yesterday 18:42

There is absolutely no way I have the bandwidth to create a Halloween costume for myself. I'm very all or nothing- either a handmade original affair taking days to create (I'm an artist) or nothing. Hence since having kids it's been nothing.

It’s actually not an American event at all.

Gengha · Yesterday 18:51

Meh, I can’t stand Halloween, I only ever partook when the kids were wee as they liked it. I wouldn’t have dressed up either, but I might have worn a Halloween t shirt or a pair of cat ears or a witches hat or something. I would say I’m a Halloween hater rather than boring.

Wilderness181 · Yesterday 18:57

I’m far from boring but the concept of fancy dress for anyone above the age of about 12 is ridiculous in my opinion.

I wouldn’t wear it for any event under any circumstances. I just don’t see the point of it.

DemonsandMosquitoes · Yesterday 18:59

I’d drop and run. Dress up? No thanks.

momtoboys · Yesterday 19:09

I am currently in the US and normally a lot of adults are dressed up, even at their jobs. Not so much this year. I think the economy is so bad, prices of everything are so high and politically people are exhausted and discouraged.

Looks like you’ve hit a nerve cavewoman 😂 ❤️

I see my sense of humour has bypassed you :(

I'm in the US, and my entire office dressed up to some extent for Hallowe'en. We had a festive buffet at lunch too.

I wore black clothes, a cat ears headband, and a pin-on tail.

I appreciate it has been celebrated in Scotland for centuries but the tacky commercial side and trick or treating is certainly American.

dijonketchup · Yesterday 20:23

OP I totally agree. I used to love dressing up as a teenager and in my 20s. We’d have theme parties and go with v creative ideas.

These days I’ve got 2nd hand shop bought costumes for the kids and I’ll be doing sweet FA myself. I just cannot spare the brain space or make the effort. Boring!

I wish I had some friends who were really into it and messaged me about outfits etc, did each others’ makeup. But everyone I know is equally as boring and insipid as me.

luckylavender · Yesterday 20:42

Some of us don’t like Hallowe’en.

Maisymouse2 · Yesterday 20:51

I find halloween tacky! Never dressing up boring or not.

Like me, it's too orange.
