Does everyone track their children?

Is everyone tracking their child now? I had a few people surprised on another group because I said I don’t agree with tracking my children. In school they were talking about. I can see the appeal for a younger child a toddler maybe or a child thats a runner. But are we all just tracking our school age children now? (even if that doesn’t apply)

So glad mine are fully fledged adults and this stuff was never around when young! I know I would have been out of my mind if I'd known even half of what they got up to. They survived and learnt to be self sufficient. I have only heard bits and pieces of what they used to get up to (not criminal).

cupfinalchaos · 14/10/2026 16:59

Chance would be a fine thing. Ds is well past the age where I need to so he disabled it (fair enough), and DD’s forgotten I’ve still got her on from when she went travelling. She wouldn’t care less but I’m going to remind her

anicewovenrug · 14/10/2026 17:01

DS has just started senior, going in on the bus...I don't track him...but this thread has reminded me that BIL knew exactly where his kids were as teens, and he and his wife could see each other's location as well. So maybe it was considered normal for a while and we're now easing up on it - I don't want to track DS, I think the ability to check would make me worry more, not less?

No we don’t track anyone in the house. I think it’s intrusive. I can’t see how tracking is healthy & it just normalises controlling behaviour.

BluebellBeth · 14/10/2026 17:08

No. Funnily enough me and dd were chatting about this the other day. I can understand why people want to but I think there's a very short amount of time where it's appropriate. But then some families all track each other

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 14/10/2026 17:09

No. I don't know anyone who does.

blackcatlove · 14/10/2026 17:10

My son 16 is tracked. I can see he’s got on the bus etc when he’s been out. Means I can go to sleep 🤣

Used it today when his 6th form called to say he wasn’t in.

I barely look at it tbh

My adult nieces have trackers on but they are rarely looked at, they are on just in case anything happens 🤷‍♀️

Cece92 · 14/10/2026 17:11

I track my 13 year old DD and it’s came in handy as a few times I’ve had messages from school saying she isn’t there…. Checked the tracker and she’s there. They keep mixing her up with someone with same first name.

InvitedWho · 14/10/2026 17:11

I don’t. I feel like it’s a gross invasion of privacy

Nix32 · 14/10/2026 17:12

Yes, we do. Whole family has each other on find my iPhone. Never use it as a tool to question, simply to reassure. Very helpful with a new, young driver in the house. All of us know, all of us happy with it.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 14/10/2026 17:12

My grown adult DD’s asked me if I wanted to put it on when they went travelling. It’s still on now and they laugh that I love stalking them and seeing what they are up to. It’s all fun here and a two way street, you have to see each others location to have it. Then my DSis added us to hers so we all see each others location. (All adults)
it’s been useful on quite a few occasions.

I do slightly worry that teaching children that it's normal to be tracked leaves them open to abusive behaviour from future romantic partners.

That’s exactly what I was going to say.
Parents are unwittingly normalising this behaviour.
I wonder how many parents who track their children (or their phone, bag, coat) would think this is acceptable if their child was older and telling them that their partner was doing it.

Simonjt · 14/10/2026 17:20

We don’t track our eleven year old, we find it very very weird.

mumonthehill · 14/10/2026 17:22

No never not even when ds went travelling. I have a friend who tracks all 3 of her adult dc and is obsessive about it and it drives me mad.

violetblue25 · 14/10/2026 17:23

As a family we’re all on life 360. No one goes out of their way to track each other more it is used for convenience. DS will look after school sometimes if it’s raining or he’s tired to see if either of us have left work early and he’ll hang about until we pass and give him a lift rather than do the long walk. I might be cooking tea and not sure when to put the pasta on and I can judge how far off dh is from driving home and sort timings. I could just wait until he gets home but this is more efficient.

I don’t think any one person should ‘track’ another in isolation. That’s controlling. But everyone having the ability to see the same information is fine if everyone is ok with it. Sometimes I go weeks having never looked at it.

DropEmOut · 14/10/2026 17:24

Yes. We all shared location on find my iPhone on a holiday and still have it. (Parents/siblings/cousins) there’s about 20 of us in there. Never really go in it but it did come in handy why uncle left his phone in a pub once.

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 14/10/2026 17:26

Track? No.
Share location by consent as 3 adult family members living together? Yes

FirmSnake · 14/10/2026 17:27

No. It isnt healthy.

Titanic42 · 14/10/2026 17:29

My daughter and I are on find my iPhone, it’s handy if I’m looking after granddaughter and want to see a rough time when she will be back. She can find me too, I live at the back of her house, I find it quite reassuring. It’s more about being safe. Im 60.i am sure if either of us wanted to turn it off we could.

Oliveoy · 14/10/2026 17:31

Yes. Me, DH and DD15 are all on Life360.

It's just useful sometimes to know where people are, not controlling. Perhaps people might see it that way if there's already something a bit off about their relationships. The way we see it is we're a close family unit, and none of us have anything to hide from each other.

PumpkinWanker · 14/10/2026 17:34

Yes it’s brilliant, only from a safety and practical perspective.
I don’t care where dd and ds are (both adults) but if anything god forbid happened to them at least I’d have an idea of where they’d been.
They could delete me tomorrow if they wanted but we don’t use it in a controlling way.

alwaysbehindascreen · 14/10/2026 17:36

I have life 360 with ds21 and find my friends with ds26. They track me as much as I track them! They check where I am every day for work. Make sure I've arrived at my destination as I cover the country.

AxolotlEars · 14/10/2026 17:38

Nope... no-one!

Applestroodle · 14/10/2026 17:38

FirmSnake · 14/10/2026 17:27

No. It isnt healthy.

Yet so many people do it without any health problems at all.

cheezncrackers · 14/10/2026 17:39

Nope!
