Should my husband call his daughter during our honeymoon abroad?

Luxe50 · Today 09:16

We are on our honeymoon in Corfu. 9 year old step daughter is on holiday in Mauritius with her mum who has asked for a brief call for our step-daughter. My question is whilst this doesn’t really bother me, should step daughter be able to manage without a call for a week (we only left on Saturday). Is this about my husband’s ex partner wanting to interrupt our break. Or am I reading to much into it, I don’t have children so appreciate I may not have the best perspective on holidays and what is usual.

Honestly, I don't understand why someone would marry someone with a child if they aren't willing to accept them. This does not bode well.

Ezzee · Today 10:04

Really, you have to ask!
DH is away loads, he calls DS1 ( my child not his) and DS2 (his not mine)at least once a week and they are adults.
If I am away I call both children too, why wouldn't we want to speak to our children ad why wouldn't they want to speak to us.
You are obviously thinking you come first when even on honeymoon you don't!

Bestfootforward11 · Today 10:05

And just to add, I went to see my parents this weekend with my DD and my DH called and spoke to her both days. I understand you may feel your situation is different in that you’re on your honeymoon but while that’s wonderful for you and your DH, for his DD I imagine it’s a bit stressful with worry about how this will impact her. A brief call takes nothing away from your lovely time away. And a man who puts his children first is surely the type of man you’d want as a new husband.

He should be calling her multiple times! I can’t believe you’re even asking.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · Today 10:06

She shouldn't have to ask your husband should want to call her. You also need to grow up!

Busybeemumm · Today 10:06

Imagine the scenario that you and DH had a child 9 years ago and now feel she is old enough to be left for a week with other family while you holiday without her for the first time after her birth. Would you feel that it was for her to want to speak to her dad?

You need to deal with your feelings around this sooner than later as quite rightly his DD will always come first.

His ex wife might or might not be trying to disrupt your honeymoon. They will always be in contact due to DD. You made the decision to marry someone with a child and a 9 year old isn't old enough to make her own contact arrangements.

Bloody hell. Yes.

I think you are going to be in for a rough marriage op if this is an issue. Of course he should be calling his daughter as much as she wants. He does not stop being a parent just because he remarried.
He will also need to talk to the child's mother at times. Co-parenting does not stop because he is remarried. If he is a decent father (although I have my doubts if he had to be asked to phone his daughter) then his child will always be his first priority.

Indeed
I wonder how often OP’s husband sees his daughter 🤔

MyDeftDuck · Today 10:07

How long have you been with your now husband OP? I do find it rather odd that you’re concerned about DSD wanting to talk to her own father during her holiday which clashes with your honeymoon. Does she never speak to him when she’s at home, does he never call her, does he have a conversation with her on special days - birthdays school events Christmas etc?
Surely, you’ve not been so blinkered in all the time you were engaged and planning a wedding that you didn’t notice him talking to his own daughter?!

Imaynotbeadorablebutitry · Today 10:09

Quick question, if your husband was away on holiday for a week without you, would you be happy with radio silence all week without any communication?

Polyestered · Today 10:09

Oh dear. Poor little girl. YABU @Luxe50 , very very much so. I predict this marriage will not go well.

LBFseBrom · Today 10:10

I don't see anything wrong with a phone call with his daughter.

angelos02 · Today 10:10

I am middle aged and speak to my Dad most days. There is no way someone else in his life would come between that. He wouldn't let it. Your DH's daughter will always be more important to him than anyone else. I would hope so anyway.

UnpopularOpinionsIWouldUsuallyKeepToMyself · Today 10:11

You should probably have researched a bit about, what it means to be a good parent, before you married one.

Morepositivemum · Today 10:11

You have to think of it like this, when you were 9 would you have a home a whole week without talking to your dad?

Bringflowersofthefairest · Today 10:11

You’re going to have to change your attitude if you want your marriage to survive.
His ex has only asked for a brief call to their daughter.

birdinatree1903 · Today 10:11

‘Whilst this doesn’t really bother me’ 😂😂
But in answer to your question, yes he absolutely should call his daughter during his honeymoon.

angelos02 · Today 10:12

This post is so sad. If she wants to speak to him every day, so be it. It is nothing to do with you.

SweetBaklava · Today 10:13

I can’t see a problem with this at all. Don’t start causing a problem where there is none!

Delphiniumandlupins · Today 10:13

If your husband was working away for a week how often would you expect him to call you?

PollyBell · Today 10:14

Reading too much into a father calling his child? Reading what into it?

You are posting on here why is a call to his child worse?

Sinceyouasked · Today 10:14

Why would the mother of her child want to interrupt her fabulous Maritius holiday having to speak to her ex - she’s only doing it because her child asked and it’s in their best interest.

I couldn’t imagine going a week without speaking to my young child.

Would you go a week without speaking to him because he was in a different location?

So odd and insecure.

Confettions · Today 10:15

Solasum · Today 09:19

She is a young child, and if she wants to speak to her father she should be able to do so.

Respectfully, he hopefully loves her more than he loves you, and if he wants to be a good father, he needs to continue to be involved in her life.

This. Encourage this always. My ex for his sins has never had a new partner in 12 years. My son is 13 but if he did I hope she would not come between their relationship or ours.

As a parent if my son wanted me to speak to him every day when he is at his dads that is fine.

AnnesPuffedSleeves · Today 10:16

Jeez OP. She should be able to speak to him any time she wants. I feel so sorry for her future if this is your attitude.
