Should my husband call his daughter during our honeymoon abroad?

We are on our honeymoon in Corfu. 9 year old step daughter is on holiday in Mauritius with her mum who has asked for a brief call for our step-daughter. My question is whilst this doesn’t really bother me, should step daughter be able to manage without a call for a week (we only left on Saturday). Is this about my husband’s ex partner wanting to interrupt our break. Or am I reading to much into it, I don’t have children so appreciate I may not have the best perspective on holidays and what is usual.

My god.

It normal for a 9yo to want to speak to her Dad. I’m in my 50s and sometimes call my Mum when I’m away on holiday. He shouldn’t have to run it past you. It’s sad that you are even questioning this tbh.

FieryA · Today 09:27

Please don't project your insecurities onto the daughter. You don't need to have children to know that there is nothing wrong in a child (how ever old) wanting to speak to their dad.

PinkKimonos · Today 09:27

OP, there’s something very wrong with a mentality that turns a nine-year-old wanting to phone her dad while he’s on holiday abroad, having just remarried, into some kind of plot by your DH’s ex to interrupt your honeymoon.

We have a 14 year old. Next week DH is going to be in the US for 8 days for work. They will talk every day, even if only very briefly.

When we went away when the dc were small or at their dads we spoke to them daily! If this is how you feel already god help you being a step mum

spritzwiththat · Today 09:28

Wow. 😮 I’m in my 50s and still chat to my parents when they or we are away! You need a massive reality check entering the world of parenting

lalalalalala2024 · Today 09:29

If you had kids op would you not speak to them for a week ?
When me and DP went away for a few days we called day and night !
He is due to go away with his friends but a different time zone so he will call either after school or before bed every day.

WimpoleHat · Today 09:29

She’s 9 and she wants to speak to her dad! Nothing wrong with that at all.

Aluna · Today 09:29

This does not bode well OP. A child-oriented step parent shouldn’t have to ask this question,

Marroon · Today 09:31

No a 9 year old child shouldn’t have ‘manage’ without speaking to her father for a week.

It’s absolutely wild to me that you are already married and only seem to be realising that he’s a father 100% of the time, honeymoon or not.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · Today 09:32

What’s the matter with you?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · Today 09:32

Why do you think this could be a problem? She's a young child on an exciting holiday and wants to talk to her dad, who's also on an exciting holiday. She can't just drop him a WhatsApp. You're thinking far too hard and looking for bad behaviour that isn't there.

3peassuit · Today 09:33

She’s nine. He should call her. I’m surprised you don’t think this is normal.

readingismycardio2 · Today 09:33

he should call her every single day.

blythet · Today 09:34

It’s worrying you’d even ask

99bottlesofkombucha · Today 09:36

It’s a phone call. Even if it were every day, yes he should speak to her, it’s a big step for a child to have one parent marry someone else.

Edenmum2 · Today 09:36

Is a phone call going to ruin your honeymoon? If that’s your view then it doesn’t look great going forward OP

Sorry but I agree with this, I'm sure you are lovely but you need to adjust your ideas quickly. Children should be able to speak with their parents whenever they want or need to, no matter where they are.

lessglittermoremud · Today 09:37

I usually take my children away for a long weekend when my husband is at work during the school holidays.
We leave on a Thursday and get back on a Monday and during that time my children (13, 11 6) will have phoned to speak to their Dad at the end of each day on the Fri, Sat, Sun from one of the older ones phones unprompted by me. (So 3 times in 5 days)
Hope that helps?

hourglass2 · Today 09:37

Weird thinking OP, she's only 9 fgs and misses her Dad, don't turn this in to some sort of competition with a child..

ThatCyanCat · Today 09:38

Yes. She's nine and his daughter.

Are you ready for life as her stepmother? This shouldn't seem off to you.

Angrybird76 · Today 09:39

Wowzers. Not sure you're ready to be a step mum. On my honeymoon i called my then 10 year old daughter every day and my husband did the same with his 11 year old daughter. You are too paranoid. Even if it is some 'plot' by his ex wife, who cares? Be confortable in your relationship and encourage your husband and his daughters relationship.

ForeverPombear · Today 09:41

Jesus OP. I don't have children but it's not difficult to understand and realise that a CHILD would want to speak to her Dad. I'd have been expecting a decent Dad to have more contact than just once during the week anyway, this is his child.

Please don't turn into one of those step mothers.
