I have a shoe destroyer too, and like other posters find Nikes to be hardest wearing, but even then they're not really worth it for toddlers. They just grow too fast.

One of mine once got 1 month and 3 weeks out of a pair of trainers as a toddler, before growing out of them. Even with them just being cheapo supermarket ones for mud, I was still mournful!

Cherlyynn · 08/04/2025 19:40

Unfortunately not :( I think the plain white leather ones would have lasted better

There’s such a thing as leather filler so these can absolutely be repaired but I imagine you’ll struggle to find a filler in a matching colour so once filled you’d probably have to then paint the whole pink part of the shoe a different colour if you want the repair to be closer to invisible.

The cost of the filler and paint and shipping (because it’s probably more accessible online than in person) may add up to close to the cost of the shoes themselves though so you’ll have to weigh up whether it’s actually worth it to repair vs just let your kids wear scruffy looking shoes. Obviously if you’re repairing a designer handbag or a sofa, something that costs orders of magnitude more than the repair products and that could give many more years of use, then it’s a no brainer. But kids nikes are so much cheaper than adults nikes and they’ll grow out of them soon.

Can't help with these but my now 6 year old has always been very hard wearing on footwear. He's always worn adidas tensaur trainers including the all black ones to school. Never had a pair that has looked worn out before he's outgrown them.

Downbadatthegym · 08/04/2025 19:43

I always buy that style on vinted for my girls. You can generally get them pretty cheap and they wash well in the machine. Could you get a second hand pair from vinted and keep these as playing out trainers?
My three year old is on her 5th pair and we have never had damage to them (could be the amount of time they spend with no shoes on in the park that helps).

voxnihili · 08/04/2025 19:44

We had Nike Pico trainers at that age - the rubber bits over the toe were indestructible.

Is he fast on a balance bike yet? Any shoes are trashed with a kid who’s balance bike obsessed. I don’t mind, a shoe that’s scuffed up and dirty is doing its job.

Not yet. Maybe that will be when it starts. He prefers a scooter right now.

I don't mind scuffed up either with some time but I'd still be a bit annoyed after only a month.

are they little Nike dunks? They are a lovely fashion trainer but probably not the most durable for toddlers playing! I’m not sure there’s a lot you can do with those scuffs. I’d do as pp said and buy some cheaper unbranded ones or get some more hard wearing ones for toddlers

Ive got those in my adult size

IVFmumoftwo · 08/04/2025 19:49

My seven year old wrecks trainers within weeks. Branded or not. 😥 Even wrecked Doc Martens. Expensive.

IAmNotASheep · 08/04/2025 19:49

Nail varnish will just look like you are trying to hard to hide it.
Just leave as they are. Kids shoes get a lot of wear and tear.

To save money maybe don’t buy Nike 🤷‍♀️ They are an American company also so unless you’re American why buy American at the moment

Op lets forget about the scuff mark just get cheap shoes till she gets bigger.
However in the nices kindest way you could fix your nail polish sorry but i just cant un-see it.

She's got twin toddlers, who really gives a fuck about what her nail polish looks like? She's probably not sat down for a week.

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/04/2025 19:52

The paint layer on top of the leather has worn off.

You'd need leather paint (I'd just use acrylic) - sand the scuff mark so there is no loose leather or paint. Dab it with an alcohol wipe to get any dust/grease off before painting.

Paint over the area with a couple of thin coats, give it a good few hours to dry in between.

Then put some sort of clear flexible coat over top - the shoe goo recommended above is probably your best bet.

It will happen again though, if its happening when she kneels on the ground, don't let her wear shoes to do that. If its happening as she's walking/doing steps, look at her gait, possibly something's not right or the shoes are not really the right size/too bulky around her toe.

Cross your fingers he doesn’t turn into mine and drag his toes along the ground to brake the scooter 🤦‍♀️

Its probably for the best toddlers grow out of their shoes in the blink of an eye, otherwise they would just rip them to shreds anyway!

Pumpkinsspice · 08/04/2025 19:55

Gem tack glue and Swarovski crystals? 🤷

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 08/04/2025 19:55

Pebeo leather paint on offer now in Hobbycraft at 3.5. They are synthetic though and material is missing but I guess it would take your eye off it. Although you may have to mix two shades

Don’t get Nike trainers for toddlers unless you have so much money you don’t care

Sofiewoo · 08/04/2025 19:58

Are people really using their time to bejazzle and paint the scuffs on their toddlers shoes?! 😂
The woman has twins fgs.

Thankyou so much for your message, I’m not grumbling I just want to save money and fix them 🤣 no point wasting money on other shoes although I will only save them now for occasions not every day use!!
I was thinking pink nail varnish to match so it hides it!!

Buying toddlers branded shoes is wasting money. They grow out of things so quickly.

Bunny2607 · 08/04/2025 20:04

My toddler wears £8 trainers from asda, every pair she has gets ruined. I have to buy new every couple of months but for £8 i can’t complain.

A month old isn’t brand new. They also look perfectly fine to wear.
I’d recommend cheap trainers for toddlers because they really don’t last

I mean, a month old is pretty new to be fair

Not really, it's all relative. I wouldn't consider nikes expensive. The problem is that she's bought a toddler a pair of shoes and expected them not to get ruined.

Honestly, a month is a long time for a kid who is on his bike every single day or always traipsing about the woods or on the beach. I don’t buy shoes without toe bumpers, but through the winter he’d even take the soles off a few pairs of wellies while on his balance bike. Pedals are better when they get there. He’s also the type who is constantly playing on hands and knees in amongst all sorts. I think the OP’s trainers look pristine.

I don’t think £8 trainers is a good economy. We buy start rite or bopy with the toe bumpers and they’re expensive but they last. The shoes will be seriously roughed up and scuffed, but they remain good and sturdy. I can’t imagine buying a new pair of shoes every couple of months.

Surely it’s normal for very young children’s feet to grow every couple of months though? It’s not like buying shoes for an adult, there’s only so long they can last before outgrowing anyway.

Must depend on the kid but mine has only gone up 3 shoe sizes between the age of 1 and 3 and a half. A new shoe size every 2 months seems rapid to me.
